Beast Bonding System: Cutting Ties In A Post Apocalyptic World.
Chapter 353: Power tables shake.
The first day of the games was finally over, and Logan felt like his soul had been sucked straight out of his body.
Because all the big bosses of the High Council or Planetary Assembly had decided to ditch the event entirely, Mayor Logan had no choice but to sit there like a frozen statue and watch the whole thing until the very end. He rubbed his aching lower back, wondering what on earth was going to ruin his day next.
He had so many questions on his mind about what exactly was going on behind the scenes. Why had the big shots not attended? Even the Divine Maiden had packed up and ghosted after the second game!
Either, it was related to the plague, or something was definitely cooking behind the scenes. The Kaelion elder was still missing, presumed dead. The power struggle in their family and clan was creating silent waves in the upper circles.
A few small clans and families that depended on the Kaelions were seeking new patrons. There was a smell of change in the air.
The big power tables were shaking, and if Logan wanted to grab the head seat_ or at the very least, stop himself from getting kicked to the curb, he had to start making moves right now.
His secretary had been digging around. The rumors had already started to spread that the leaders of the world were not on good terms with one another since the appearance of the King beasts and mysterious disappearances of Soul maidens.
Perhaps this was related to their absence, or not. But it was always wise for one to be cautious. He couldn’t put all of his eggs in Trinity’s basket.
He glanced up at the giant championship leaderboard hanging above the arena. Right at the top, sitting broad and proud in first place: Elliot Kaelion.
Logan almost spat blood on the spot. He internally swore up a storm. What is that crazy Divine Maiden planning?! It would be fine if the Craw clan’s fighter was at least in the top five, but number nine!? NINE!? "Are you kidding me!?" he muttered.
Everyone knew Elliot Kaelion was a maniac that would do anything to win. His grandfather was presumed dead and yet there Elliot was, seeking glory and fame! There was no way that crazy lunatic was going to accept a defeat at the final match.
Just what in the world was Trinity waiting for to eliminate him? If she fucked things up for him, he would make her regret it. This competition was his chance to rise, and he would do whatever it took to do so.
With a heavy, dramatic sigh, Logan stood up and stomped toward the exit. He was so wrapped up in his own miserable thoughts that he completely forgot about the woman sitting right next to him.
"Boss," Noel, his head of security, whispered while leaning in quickly. "Uh_ you’re leaving your wife behind."
Logan froze. He slowly turned his head, realizing Celeste was staring right at him. Crap, I cannot let her think that something is off about me.
"Is everything prepared on your end?" Logan muttered under his breath to Noel, covering his slip-up. "I do not want any fingers pointed at me."
Noel gave a crisp nod. "Everything is ready, Boss. It all goes down tonight."
Logan took a few awkward steps backward, put on his best fake husband smile, and planted a gentle kiss on Celeste’s cheek. "Hey sweetheart, I have to run to the town hall first to handle some business. I’ll see you at home, okay?"
Celeste beamed, her eyes sparkling. "That’s fine! I’m actually going to hang out with my friends for the evening, so I’ll be back pretty late."
"Oh, really? That’s great! Have fun!" Logan smiled back with absolute, fake-loving sweetness.
But inside his head, he was doing a happy victory dance. Yes! Perfect! Party all night if you want! My secret plan will work a hundred times better if you stay away from home till late!
"Bye-bye, Celeste," he murmured softly. He turned on his heel and walked away.
Celeste’s smile slowly melted away into a tiny frown. She stroked her cheek where he had just kissed her. There was a weird, icy chill in her husband’s voice just now when he said bye-bye. She stared at his retreating back, tilting her head. What is his problem this time? Did he lose money or something?
She could have thought deeper on it, but her cousin Impala Craw waved at her eagerly, and she hurried over with a big smile.
The moment Logan slid into the soft leather back seat of his luxury car, his phone buzzed violently. It was his undercover informant from the Sanctum.
Logan picked up instantly. "Talk."
"Boss! Big news!" the informant squeaked frantically through the speaker. "A man from the Wild lands just sprinted into the Sanctum saying he had information related to Zyra Scorpion. He talked to the Divine Maiden, and right after that, she completely lost her mind! She was furious! She just ordered all Sanctum troops to march straight into the Wild lands, and start claiming territories after torching them. I couldn’t overhear what was said in the office. That’s all I have for you."
Logan’s hand tightened around the phone. He cracked his knuckles one by one_ pop, pop, pop.
He hung up the phone and leaned back, his mind racing at top speed. Trinity has definitely found where Zyra is in the Wild lands. But why the full-scale army raid to take territories? Why is Trinity throwing a big temper tantrum?
He stroked his chin, his eyes flashing with determination. Doesn’t matter. Zyra is my future wife! I can’t let Trinity lay a single finger on her!
Without wasting a second, Logan dialed Job.
"Mr. Mayor?" Job answered with a yawn on the first ring.
"Listen up!" Logan barked into the phone. "The Sanctum troops are marching to the Wild lands right; they must know where Zyra is. I need you and the team to get there first, find her, and bring her to me!"
There was a long, awkward silence on the line.
"_Uh, sir?" Job asked hesitantly, scratching his head on the other end. "The Wildlands are vast. Do you have a location?"
"Of course not, or I would have given it to you already, moron." Logan barked.
Job replied in a tired voice, "Then how exactly are we supposed to find one girl before an entire army does? This is not a needle in a haystack; it’s a needle in the sea!"
Logan puffed out his chest and shouted, "How should I know?! I don’t care if you have to sniff every bush in that cesspit! Just get the job done! Get more reinforcements I am going to send you more money."
"Yes sir." Job replied quickly. Saying yes was always easier and better than asking questions, only to be insulted.
