Chapter 1358 - 1326: Spiritual Vision and "Chains
As if wanting to crush Lann against its face, the Moon God’s hand pressed on Lann’s body, and its head also turned side to side.
Behind its head, the long tentacles danced along.
The tentacles behind its head, the tentacles acting as its tail, these tentacles seemed to want to wrap Lann together with the Moon God itself, beginning to close in.
Its divinity, its persona, its vision...
These things that transcend the mortal world were now controlled by it, wishing to use them to do something to Lann.
Mortals have no resistance in the presence of an already manifested Ancient God.
Because their knowledge is shallow and their vision narrow.
This was supposed to be the case.
But the meaning of ’supposedly’ is... it is not the case now.
Lann’s eyes, normally godless and fascinated, suddenly became inexplicably deep!
The palm and tentacles wrapping his body seemingly cannot block his vision.
The Demon Hunter’s head turned away from the Moon God’s frontal face, looking to his side.
He was now almost completely wrapped by the Moon God’s tentacles, logically he should only be able to see the grotesque and bloody body of this Ancient God.
But his vision penetrated not only these tentacles but also this dream realm.
On the surface of the lake in front of Byronwiss Academy, on the Moon Viewing Terrace’s reclining chair.
The chair kept slowly swaying, the old man who had tucked the scepter into his chest pocket, though his vision was covered by a metal eyepatch, seemed to have seen something.
Suddenly, he extended the scepter from his chest, lightly pointing at the Demon Hunter who was looking at him through ’eyes,’ just as he first pointed out the location of the [Foolish Spider] Rom to Lann.
The lips, aged and sunken due to toothlessness, curled into a smile.
’This is Yan’an’s destined moment. Now, go.’
Silent words, yet enough for Lann to understand.
Thus, the Demon Hunter silently nodded.
"Buzz~"
Just as the Moon God’s two claws wanted to crush Lann against its face, a light suddenly overflowed from this small mortal on its hands!
Just like flesh and blood encountering a red-hot iron, all movements were originally silent, as if not interacting with the mortal world, but now the Moon God suddenly seemed startled!
"Ah!"
A long echoing sound, ethereal and distant, if not seen directly, no one would believe this came from such a strange creature’s mouth... but it was indeed the Ancient God’s scream.
The Moon God uncontrollably released its hand, and even the wrapped tentacles suddenly loosened simultaneously!
Its entire body startled backward a long distance before landing on all fours.
And that glowing Demon Hunter, also slowly descended from mid-air within the light.
’Clack’ sound, the dragon scale armor boots made by biting together land on the flower field ground.
And the Demon Hunter, moments ago full of fascination and satisfaction, now unknowingly had the Lady of the Lake’s Sword from the scabbard at his waist in his hand.
"Look at your current appearance, it’s not much different from a wild beast, is it?"
In the distance, the Moon God looked like a startled feline, claws grabbing the ground, deformed skeletal body arched, full of vigilance and hostility.
But from afar, the Demon Hunter still bathed in the crimson moonlight, casually flicked a few splendid blade flowers with the long blade in his hand, leisurely strolling through the flower field.
Lann didn’t look at the Moon God.
He just smiled, right hand turning a gleaming blade flower with the hilt, then the blade head of the Lady of the Lake’s Sword rested onto his left palm.
His glove inside the hand armor idly toyed, rubbing the divine-made armament’s blade edge.
Steel lightly scraping against finished leather made a ’scritch’ sound, almost melodious.
As though the current scene was merely an art exhibition of cold weaponry, he was simply an appraiser. Instead of a battlefield conjured by the malice of an Ancient God, a superior being.
The Demon Hunter’s flexible fingertips gently plucked the blade edge of the Lady of the Lake’s Sword on his hand.
But the light emanating from him still made the Moon God, who retreated far back, behave like a startled wild cat or dog, lowering its body, cautious and retreating.
This light was completely different from the light shed by the blood moon above at this moment.
But upon careful distinction, one could see this apparent light was essentially three different lights blended together.
Due to their gentle and bright nature, distinguishing was not very obvious.
One of the golden lights resembled sunlight at dawn, nourishing all things.
Another, also golden but much lighter in color, possessed the strongest brightness, like the shimmering lake surface.
And the final light emitted from Lann’s body, as well as the long blade in his hand.
It was a pure and faint, almost like a reflection or illusion, akin to distant starlight.
Yet this light was profoundly pure, delicate but pristine.
"Condition: [Meet the Ancient God]. Achieved."
In the Demon Hunter’s leisurely pace, Mentos reported in Lann’s mind.
A record conserved in the form of ’condition unlock’ by it all along began pouring out with Lann’s own memory.
This memory’s duration was very short, just as Lann himself and Mentos speculated—only less than two days.
Yet it was precisely this short period that prepared him, supported by such radiant light, to stand before the superior entity deeply hidden behind Yan’an.
"It’s about as I imagined."
Lann said as he toyed with his blade while strolling.
"Standing before you requires ’qualification’."
"Without enough ’qualification,’ one is just a doll to be toyed with at your whim. Gremman, Ludwig... hmph hmph."
"I’m starting to get curious, according to your kind of... life path? How does a mortal stand before you? By the umbilical blood at the birth of a god-child?"
When mentioning ’life path,’ Lann’s tone was somewhat uncertain.
After all, such life forms as the Ancient Gods still hold too much unknown. Whether these entities can even be defined by the concept of ’life’ is still questionable.
But fortunately today... he doesn’t need to worry about those scholarly troubles.
He is indeed considered a scholar, but now he is here mainly to do some ’dirty work.’
"Mm~"
A strange sound emanated from the body of the ancient god in the distance.
It was neither the roar of a beast nor the voice of a human, but rather like the sound of wind passing through three hollows in Its face, eerily ghostly.
Its sharp claws lifted from the ground.
On them, as well as Its face, were signs of burns on the bloody skeleton.
It was truly wounded.
Burned by that sword, by the light on that person!
Originally contained within the Elven Gems, the [Light of the Dual Holy Trees]!
This pure and immaculate light, even the original Great Dark Enemy of the Ardan World—Morgoth, would suffer immensely from merely touching the Elven Gems once.
How does Yan’an’s Moon God compare to Morgoth, Lann dared not to hastily conclude.
But it is certain, the light that Morgoth could not withstand, It similarly cannot withstand.
"Wu~"
The sound like wind passing through hollows echoed again.
The Moon God cautiously pulled away a bit further, its grotesque yet oddly sacred body flickered like a low-resolution video.
As if it was about to melt into the blood-red moonlight.
But immediately, the Demon Hunter, who had been bowing his head ’admiring’ the long blade in his hand as if it were a piece of art, suddenly looked up!
Those deep amber cat eyes, after glancing at the Moon God.
On that bizarre life form’s claws and face, where there had only been burn marks, the darkened scars suddenly began to glow brightly again!
"Ah!"
The Ancient God screamed once more, and the body that was almost merging into the blood-red moonlight suddenly became a tangible material entity again.
"I won’t let you have another chance to return to a higher ’sphere of vision.’
With a ’ting’, the blade that was being toyed with in his palm has now returned to the grasp of Swordsmanship.
The Demon Hunter stared motionlessly at the Moon God, speaking softly.
"Compared to you, my vision is indeed still very narrow. But isn’t this your own descent? I will cherish the opportunity you have given."
The Ancient Gods, due to their unique status and vision, exist on a level that mortals cannot observe or interfere with.
This is also why no one has been able to resist the Ancient Gods before.
Only they can exert influence on the mortal world, and never the other way around.
This is why Lann and Master William both believe the true cause of the death of Kos Orphan lies in the hands of other Ancient Gods.
Because even if it were merely a juvenile being, mortals should never be able to touch an Ancient God.
If it cannot be touched, then no matter how weak It is, how could it possibly be killed by mortals?
But on the other hand, if an Ancient God willingly lowers its status and vision, descends to the world, and manifests in this material world with a materialized body...
This is why Master William wanted to ascertain Lann’s level of [Spiritual Vision].
Because Master William must ensure that when the Moon God has already lowered its vision and status, appearing in front of Lann, the Demon Hunter can clearly see It.
Once it can’t be seen clearly, the Ancient God could easily return itself to the ’higher vision’ from a place beyond Lann’s [Spiritual Vision].
Simply put: its spirit will return to the heavens.
But now, everything is ready!
Lann’s [Spiritual Vision] can comprehensively observe the Moon God who has now descended, and the light on his body and the light on the long blade have transformed into conceptual ’chains.’
Binding the Moon God in this Dream Realm.
Confined to this ’narrow vision.’
Just now, Lann had been endlessly admiring the Lady of the Lake’s Sword because he could sense that now was the time to use [Light of the Dual Holy Trees].
The power he once instinctively wanted to hide now, in use, felt unrestrained and satisfying in his heart.
And now, it’s mainly due to his [Spiritual Vision] not seeing high enough, or far enough.
Otherwise, if he could fully wield the power of [Light of the Dual Holy Trees], he probably wouldn’t have to wait for the Moon God to ’descend,’ even if It stays in the higher space.
This light, this blade, could cut It down directly!
But now isn’t the time, the opponent is urgent.
The weapon’s power can be gradually delved into and developed as one’s ’vision’ improves.
But right now...
Lann silently raised the long blade, aiming at the Moon God who had returned to material form in the distance.
Can’t cut you down directly in the higher space, then bring it to the mortal world, and if I cut you down, so be it!
