Chapter 993: Standoff Between Man and Beast

  • Next Chapter

The one who spoke was a young man. He glanced at Gu Dehao’s shoulder and waist injuries, his eyes showed worry, but he jestingly smiled, "Since we saw the Short Country people didn’t catch up, we have nothing to do; we thought about catching some live creatures for nibbling."

Gu Dehao understood that the other party was concerned about his health, worried that he might not be able to hold on.

"No way!"

He resolutely refused to allow anyone to act alone.

The danger of Death Valley is extremely significant, even professional research personnel cannot fully comprehend it, let alone rough fighters like them.

"Woo... Woo Woo!!!"

"Ao ao... Ao!!!"

"Roar roar roar—"

Suddenly, the roaring of beasts erupted, the sound was very close, right behind the group.

Though Gu Dehao and his group were on full alert, hearing such a dense roar of beasts startled them.

The young man looked towards the direction of the sound’s origin.

That one glance made his scalp tingle.

On the mountain top of the Chaotic Stone Ridge where they stood, countless pairs of green glowing eyes were eerily fixed on them.

Beast eyes like they’re staring at prey delivered to their mouth, fierce and greedy.

"Hao... Brother Hao..."

The young man’s speech was stammering.

Gu Dehao and the rest saw those sinister, green gleaming beast eyes through the reflection in his pupils.

They dared not make any move, fearing any action might provoke a beastly attack.

"Don’t move, keep your gaze steady!"

Gu Dehao warned in a low voice.

The young man quickly composed himself, realizing as soon as his eyes met those of the beasts, he was locked on by them.

Once he breaks the gaze, these beasts will charge down.

This is a silent confrontation; he must stall for time to let Brother Hao and the brothers prepare to fight.

Facing countless fierce beast glimmers, the young man felt like crying inside.

Where did all these beasts suddenly come from?

Why hadn’t they heard any commotion earlier?

Gu Dehao scanned his surroundings at his men, lowering his voice, "Form teams of three nearby, if they charge down, break out of Death Valley, don’t look back, even if one escapes it’s worth it."

His voice was hoarse, filled with resignation and heartache.

This was merely at the outskirts of Death Valley, and already they encountered such a beastly siege.

If they were inside, who knows what dangers lie ahead?

Seeing his men forming silent teams through exchanged glances, Gu Dehao’s gaze darkened; he had already made a decision in his heart.

He poked the wound on his shoulder, the pungent smell of blood spreading out.

As those beside him witnessed his action in shock, Gu Dehao suddenly stood up.

"Run!"

He roared angrily, but no one moved.

His men understood what he meant.

The intense scent of blood would attract all the beasts.

Brother Hao was giving them the chance to flee.

"Why aren’t you running?!"

Gu Dehao glared at them fiercely.

"We can just fight them; I’m not scared of these animals!"

Someone took out a dagger from inside the high boot, their eyes showing eager intent for battle.

"That’s right, Brother Hao, we won’t leave you alone!"

Those without firearms took out melee weapons, ready to confront.

Those wielding weapons moved forward to shield the group.

"Hey, something’s off!"

Among countless fierce beasts, the young man noticed the beasts standing on the hill were itching to move, but they hadn’t charged down.

Gu Dehao and the others looked up at the beasts on the hill and sensed something was wrong.

The beasts atop the hill were walking back and forth restlessly.
