Chapter 1021: Hidden Market Cultivators’ Assembly

Gu Jin did not reach out to take it, her eyes fixed on the black invitation card without moving away.

"Which family sent it?"

She had received many cards recently, some familiar, some not, all inviting her to attend various events under different pretenses.

In such cold weather, who wouldn’t rather stay home and relax than go out into the frigid air?

She rejected them all.

However, the invitation in front of her was somewhat intriguing.

Whereas other invitations were in various shades of red, this one alone had a black seal, and the design on the card held an inexplicable eeriness.

Neither dragon nor phoenix, it was hard to tell what creature it was, with its teeth bared and claws extended.

Kasi spoke briefly: "East City, Hidden Market."

"Oh?"

An invitation from the Hidden Market piqued Gu Jin’s interest.

She reached out and took the invitation; on the black card seal was a large calligraphy of "Invitation" written in gold powder.

Gu Jin opened it, the words inside coming into view.

The first thing that caught her eye were the four large characters for Top-level Cultivator Conference.

It sincerely invited Sect Leader Gu Jin of the Xuanji Sect to attend this Cultivator Conference, scheduled for February 9, 1993, at Jing’an Pavilion, Hidden Market, East City.

No signature, just a final sentence, sincerely hoping the Sect Leader of Xuanji Sect will attend with disciples and grand-disciples.

Cultivator Conference?

Gu Jin was hearing of such a conference for the first time; simply from the surface meaning, she understood it was a gathering of those with cultivation.

She held the black invitation in her hand, her brows slightly furrowed, concentrating in thought.

Though the Xuanji Sect was not as renowned as the sects of the Four Great Families, it was well-known among the upper echelons.

She also understood that multiple forces were monitoring the surroundings of her current residence at the courtyard.

Now, with the invitation from Hidden Market for the Cultivator Conference, Gu Jin had a sense of impending danger.

The once tranquil life seemed bound to drift away from her.

The low profile she maintained in previous years was merely for avoiding tedious matters and indulging in idleness.

Yet now, it seemed that was no longer possible.

Since last year when An Mingji’s incident happened with grandiose, and Xuanji Sect emerged out of nowhere becoming known to the upper society, she anticipated subsequent troubles.

And here they were, troubles indeed.

Yet she still knew little of the Cultivator Conference’s inner workings, unsure whether to decline or confront it.

Gu Jin’s brow slightly furrowed as she reached for the phone on the table, dialing her third disciple Wanqi Jingyi.

The Hidden Market in East City was under the Wanqi Family’s domain; presumably, they would have insight on this matter.

Indeed, Wanqi Jingyi audibly gasped upon hearing about the Cultivator Conference.

The other side quickly settled down, elucidating for Gu Jin: "Master, the Cultivator Conference occurs once every ten years, organized by two old sects from the Hidden Market, and has been ongoing for a century. Anyone invited must attend, or not attending challenges their authority, and they will employ extreme measures as a warning.

I heard my father mention, over two decades ago, a sect did not regard the invitation seriously and even claimed the old sects of Hidden Market were cowards, hiding for a century without the qualification to dictate them.

Because they did not attend the Cultivator Conference, and boasting such arrogance, the two sects of Hidden Market directly obliterated them, the methods extremely brutal and bloody, greatly warning other sects.

Every ten years the Cultivator Conference is riddled with peril, ending each time with dozens of cultivators perishing. I did not expect them to invite you this time, master. I fear they have their sights set on Xuanji Sect."

These words, Wanqi Jingyi spoke with utter certainty.

Gu Jin, unclear about the situation, casually asked, "What makes you say that? I haven’t even been to Hidden Market."
