Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife
Chapter 1988 - 1990: Bullets Flying Everywhere
Chapter 1988: Chapter 1990: Bullets Flying Everywhere
The flowers are ready to be moved to Guangcheng, and far away in a foreign country, Qi Taiguo is struggling on the line between life and death.
Boom.
Amidst the chaos of war, a child sits in the rubble, crying loudly. On their dirty face, the tears have carved streaks, pitifully revealing sorrow. Beside the child lie the shattered remains of a body, blown apart by an explosion.
Qi Taiguo, dressed in military uniform, crouches carefully through the ruins, with bullets flying overhead and shells exploding in the distance, danger looming on all sides.
Not far off, someone watches Qi Taiguo advance, sweating anxiously. Behind them is the embassy.
"Why is Battalion Commander Qi going there? They’re not our compatriots!" A soldier stomps his foot and exclaims, "Saving one is nothing, but now it’s another and another."
No one answers him. Perhaps only Qi Taiguo knows that this little life is the same age as his son, and he has the right to see a more wonderful world.
Whether they’re compatriots or not, the cruelty of war stands no chance against human compassion; he’s just doing what he ought to do.
Speaking of it, this aid to Africa is also on the edge of life and death, barely surviving a bacterial warfare only to now face evacuation.
Qi Taiguo can’t afford deep thoughts, rushing over to scoop up the crying black child and dart back.
Bullets fly wildly.
Qi Taiguo’s face has long since turned gray from dust as he sprints, shouting to everyone, "Retreat, into the embassy."
The soldiers don’t hesitate and rush into the nearby embassy, which has had a corner blasted off, but no other rogue forces have breached it since it’s Huaxia Country’s embassy, something no one dares invade.
Inside the embassy, many people are injured—Chinese and African alike—huddled together in groups, crying.
Qi Taiguo sets down the child, calls over a woman, and hands the child to her, then takes off his helmet to reveal a thin face.
"Battalion Commander Qi, you’re lucky to be alive. Cherish it, alright?" Someone comes out of the embassy, noticing Qi Taiguo’s bleeding arm, and frowns while scolding him.
Qi Taiguo laughs, "With a high-skilled doctor like you around, I won’t die!"
Lu Feiyun glances at him and drags him off to bandage his wound.
The office temporarily used as a medical room; its walls isolate the outside artillery fire. Lu Feiyun washes her hands and begins treating Qi Taiguo’s wound.
"Your body is covered in scars. I wonder how you’ll explain them to your wife when you go back." Lu Feiyun carefully picks out the debris from his arm while saying, "Humans are humans, not iron. You’ve done enough."
Qi Taiguo absentmindedly looks at the wound on his arm and says, "Who told me to be a soldier?"
Lu Feiyun gives him a sidelong glance and snorts, "Do soldiers treat their lives as worthless?"
Qi Taiguo smiles faintly.
Lu Feiyun says nothing more, quickly cleaning and disinfecting the wound.
"Ouch, Doctor Lu, take it easy." Qi Taiguo exclaims in pain.
Lu Feiyun feigns amusement, "Oh, Battalion Commander Qi actually feels pain?" But she lightens her touch considerably.
After disinfecting, she bandages the wound properly and says, "Let’s get another shot of serum."
"Is it necessary? I’m already healed. Don’t waste it!" Qi Taiguo argues.
Lu Feiyun ignores him, taking a vial of precious serum from the box, readying the needle, "Waste? Unless you don’t want to go back to see your wife and kid."
Uh...
Qi Taiguo chokes on his words, obligingly holds out his arm, "Alright then, go ahead!"
Lu Feiyun’s mouth curls up, hiding her smile, as she pushes the injection in.
