Chapter 1970: Chapter 1972: Bitten

Qi Taiguo found a tree hollow. The jungle trees have been growing for countless years, each one towering majestically. The tree they found required the embrace of three to four people to encircle it, but somehow, a large portion of its base was hollowed out, forming a tree hollow just big enough for two people to shelter from the sudden rainstorm.

Sitting inside the tree hollow, the rain was instantly blocked. Qi Taiguo, still uneasy, pulled some branches over to cover the entrance for concealment, just in case someone came by they wouldn’t easily notice them.

Brushing off a face full of raindrops, Qi Taiguo felt something amiss, and upon looking down, he saw Lu Feiyun unbuttoning his clothes.

Qi Taiguo immediately caught her hand, "Doctor Lu."

"Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have any untoward intentions towards you," Lu Feiyun glanced at him and said, "It’s just that your wounds need treatment."

"We are all on our own, and you don’t have a medical kit. How will you treat them? No need, it’s nothing!" Qi Taiguo chuckled.

Lu Feiyun frowned, "We have to take a look. You don’t know, that child had a bacterial disease, and you surely don’t want to be infected, right?"

Qi Taiguo had no choice but to unbutton his shirt, revealing his robust upper body, which had several new cuts from being slashed.

Lu Feiyun hesitated before she glanced at herself and then took off her shirt, leaving only a tank top, which she tore apart to simply bandage Qi Taiguo.

Her focus was on examining his waist.

"It’s nothing. How bad could a child’s bite be? I was still wearing clothes," Qi Taiguo laughed.

Lu Feiyun cast him an annoyed look, then glanced down to see a waist devoid of any excess flesh imprinted with a mark. It wasn’t deep, just slightly broken skin.

She continued checking, her gaze landing on his arm, "Was this bitten too?"

His left arm bore a deep bite mark that was bleeding. Lu Feiyun’s expression changed several times as she looked outside; the heavy rain was still pouring, and she couldn’t find herbs even if she wanted to.

"What should we do about this..." Lu Feiyun was somewhat anxious.

Qi Taiguo withdrew his hand, saying, "It’s fine, just a bite..."

"Stop, don’t underestimate this bite. I’ve seen over the past few days that children’s immunity is weak, and the infected ones are mostly among them. If you were bitten, with saliva and blood transmission, if the wound gets infected, then..." Lu Feiyun furrowed her brows deeply.

Qi Taiguo was indifferent, pulling the torn cloth to wrap around the wound, saying, "Don’t worry too much, we can get a shot once we’re back."

Lu Feiyun scoffed, "Before coming here, wasn’t there a war inland? Our medical supplies are exhausted at the depot; whether they can be delivered here is uncertain. If there’s no antibiotics, what then?"

"Then it’s like we’re meant to perish!" Qi Taiguo shrugged with a smile, leaning back.

Lu Feiyun was both annoyed and amused by him, choosing to lean against the tree trunk as he did, saying, "Battalion Commander Qi, thank you for coming to rescue me, and I’m sorry for causing your injury."

"What are you saying? I’m a soldier, and protecting you is our duty," Qi Taiguo said, "Don’t talk now. This rain’s duration is unknown, and it’s unsuitable for making a fire here. Rest your eyes and recuperate, and when the rain decreases, we’ll leave. It’s not safe to linger; if any of them get infected, they definitely won’t spare you, Doctor."

Lu Feiyun sighed, "If only we had enough medicine, we could treat them."
