Chapter 1514: Chapter 1516
She had just finished teasing Gong Ruzhi, and Gong Ruini was in all kinds of a good mood.
But when she saw Zhao Xuran pushing the door open with that displeased expression on his face, she froze.
“What’s wrong?” Wasn’t he going to pick up Zhao Guangran? Seeing the younger brother he hadn’t seen in ages, shouldn’t someone be over the moon?
Gong Ruini still remembered that just yesterday someone had been so happy and excited he couldn’t sleep until midnight.
So why did he now look like everyone owed him money, and a lot of it at that?
What was going on? Also, wasn’t he going to pick up Zhao Guangran and the others? Why didn’t she see them?
“They went to shower first, and then… sigh.” Thinking of what he’d just heard in the elevator, Zhao Xuran deeply felt that going to pick them up today had been the dumbest, most idiotic decision.
What? Why did he look so awkward just from mentioning a shower? “Don’t tell me someone suggested showering together to save time.”
He snorted and shot her an unceremonious white-eyed glare. Why did his own wife have to be this sharp, just tearing the veil right off like that?
He exhaled, exhaled, couldn’t get mad. “Yeah, that brat Dai Limin actually hooked his arm around Zhao Xuran’s shoulder and said, ‘Let’s shower together.'”
“And that idiot Zhao Guangran actually didn’t object.”
If it had been a man and a woman, Zhao Xuran would’ve actually been pleased—it would’ve meant his little brother had truly moved on and stopped toying with people.
But why was it that the very scene he’d wanted to see, the “threesome,” turned out to be all men?
His chest hurt. “When I first found out about Xiao Hui, I could still pretend to be calm.” After all, that hadn’t been his own blood brother; there really was no need to get that worked up.
But now that it was his own blood brother, Zhao Xuran really felt he couldn’t take it.
“If it hadn’t been in the elevator where I couldn’t make a scene, I would’ve already punched him.”
Usually as steady as he was, Zhao Xuran was still a man in his twenties; he had his hot-headed moments.
It was a bit violent, sure. But if the protagonist had been Gong Ruzhi, even Gong Ruini couldn’t guarantee she’d stay this calm.
She might’ve gone even further than Zhao Xuran, just swinging her fist without any courtesy. “It’s not like the family can’t afford the water bill.”
“It’s not about the money. They said this way they can shower faster.”
“They’re tired and want to sleep. But take Gong Jiaming—he flew back from Japan too. Is he that tired?” He hadn’t been to Japan, but he had a comparison standing right there.
Sleep? Gong Ruini lowered her head to hide the brief flicker of “something’s off.”
Clearly, Dai Limin could’ve gone to stay at Dai Liren’s place. Was it really necessary to squeeze in with Zhao Guangran?
“Wait, that’s not right. Dai Limin doesn’t have a place in the United States, but Dai Liren does.” She’d been too busy being angry earlier and hadn’t thought about it.
Now that it suddenly hit her, she realized there was a problem, and a big one at that.
Look at that, the overexcited siscon finally caught on at this point. Gong Ruini was honestly quite looking forward to seeing what would happen next.
“No way, I’ve got to go down and ask him.” Zhao Xuran couldn’t help it; he quickened his pace, worried that if he was a step too late, something would happen that he’d regret for life.
Whoa, Gong Ruini hadn’t expected Zhao Xuran to move that fast; she didn’t even manage to grab him.
“I was just going to remind you, that Dai Liren hasn’t been back for ages—the Dai family’s place is probably covered in dust.” Although they did have a spare key to the Dai place and had been asked to help keep an eye on it.
This time, knowing Dai Limin was coming back, Gong Ruini had simply forgotten to go help tidy up, so odds were the place was totally unfit to live in.
Now that Zhao Xuran had already dashed out, what could Gong Ruini do? She could only curl up on the sofa, keep snacking, and listen to the symphony.
She would’ve preferred some pop music, but Zhao Xuran insisted that for the baby’s education they should play something more refined.
If she hadn’t protested in every possible way, he probably would’ve gone straight for opera, which had scared her half to death.
Classical music is one thing—at least it’s piano or an orchestra. But opera has those high notes, which really aren’t a small burden for Gong Ruini.
She had to admit, though, classical music was pretty nice. Sitting on the sofa, Gong Ruini really did start to feel sleepy.
“Ugh, Zhao Xuran is going to be the death of me.”
“How did I end up with a brother like that?” Zhao Guangran stormed in, fuming.
The moment he came in, he started ranting nonstop, startling drowsy Gong Ruini wide awake.
Looking at the unshaven Zhao Guangran, even though she knew he was in a bad mood, Gong Ruini still couldn’t resist mocking him.
“Hey, how come you shaved the beard?” Without the beard, Zhao Guangran looked quite young—and, more importantly, like a decent human being.
For someone who always cared about his appearance to come charging in like this, Gong Ruini knew for sure that Zhao Xuran must’ve pissed him off big time.
She really wanted to know how, once he’d switched on his toxic-tongue mode, Zhao Xuran had managed to rile Zhao Guangran up this much.
“Shaved, my ass. I’m about to be pissed to death by my brother.”
“Ni Zi, you know what? My brother actually thinks I—I’m gay.”
“How could I be gay? I like women. I like women!” Zhao Guangran was absolutely fuming.
Seeing how worked up he was, Gong Ruini knew he was about to say some pretty contemptuous things about gay people. Normally, saying that kind of stuff at home wouldn’t be a big deal.
But the problem now was that Wan Yihui was here. The guy was so sensitive; if he heard this, who knew how he’d spiral over it.
Gong Ruini grabbed Zhao Guangran and quietly explained the situation to him.
Zhao Guangran was stunned. “No way.”
That, uh, finally made him understand why that guy had called him. “So Aunt must’ve been furious.”
He finally understood why his aunt had said she wouldn’t let Wan Yihui inherit the family business. So this was the reason.
“So how is he now?” At this point, Zhao Guangran completely forgot about his own anger and asked cautiously.
“His mood’s okay.” She paused. “Whether he’s really okay, only he would know.” As for the specifics, even Gong Ruzhi probably couldn’t get into the core of his emotions.
“Oh.” Zhao Guangran let out an “oh.” Right now, he thought of that earlier phone call from his friend. Just because he knew what kind of person Wan Yihui was didn’t mean he’d look twice at his own friend.
“Even so, he can’t just wrongly accuse me like that.” Only now did Zhao Guangran circle back to all the slander his big brother had thrown at him earlier.
It was seriously infuriating. Just because there was that “precedent” in the family didn’t mean he was the same.
“I wrongly accused you?” Zhao Xuran stormed in, swept a glance over Zhao Guangran, and said, “Study. Now.”
He didn’t need to ask to know this guy had been making a racket here for a while now. Did he not stop to think he might scare Gong Ruini?
“Oh.” Out of habit, Zhao Guangran answered without a second thought.
As soon as he agreed, he regretted it like crazy. “Damn it, why am I so obedient?”
His big brother had said so many over-the-line things, and yet here he was, happily trotting along to do whatever his brother said. His brain had to be waterlogged.
“Because you’re a well-behaved little brother.” This was truly a case of one thing subduing another—but that could only be said in her head. Say it out loud and a certain someone would blow his top.
He liked the sound of that. Zhao Guangran nodded in agreement. “I am a well-behaved little brother. Ni Zi, you should tell my brother that more often.”
If he behaved well, someone had to tell his brother; otherwise, how would his brother know how good he was?
