Wan Qiweng stood at the door with a worn expression and bags of luggage.

The people eating inside the house heard the knock on the door and found it very strange.

Everyone in the family had returned, and Americans don’t really have the habit of visiting unannounced. Since they came here, apart from the initial incident where someone had taken a liking to Zhao Xuran, causing a chaotic scene which led Gong Ruini to become aware of such a neighbor, Gong Ruini has remained quite oblivious to the other neighbors.

"Who could it be?" Gong Ruini wondered, confused.

Wan Yihui swallowed the food in his mouth and went to open the door.

When the door opened, he was stunned, utterly frozen.

What’s going on? Why did Wan Yihui open the door and not say a word?

Gong Ruzhi was puzzled; could it be a salesperson? But that doesn’t seem likely.

He walked over to take a look and was also astonished, "Auntie."

Why would she come? And why was there no notice? Gong Ruzhi felt frustrated.

It really left no time to prepare, truly unsure of how to handle it.

All sorts of reactions to Wan Qiweng’s arrival in the United States flashed through Gong Ruzhi’s mind, and honestly, he really didn’t know what to do.

Or maybe he was worried that Wan Qiweng might say something that would make Wan Yihui break down, especially given that Xiao Hui had been doing much better, no longer dwelling on unhappy things.

Wan Qiweng is here? Gong Ruini, who was dining inside the house, was shocked. How is she here, and why has there been no word from back home?

Gong Ruini looked uneasily at Zhao Xuran, who then shook his head at her, "Uncle hasn’t called."

Alright then, Gong Ruini really felt like swearing; a living person just up and ran to the United States, yet there’s no word from back home, it’s really something else.

"Can I come in?" Wan Qiweng pressed her lips lightly.

Wan Yihui gathered his courage, "Mom, you must be tired from the journey. We were just having dinner; would you join us?"

"Mom, how about you take a shower first?" After such a long flight, it must be exhausting, especially since mother is a person who loves cleanliness.

As he said this, Wan Yihui felt very anxious. He worried that Wan Qiweng might scold him or, even more troubling, might ignore or dismiss him.

Wan Qiweng didn’t pay attention to Wan Yihui and walked straight in, while the latter’s expression darkened, becoming the worst scenario he had imagined.

The atmosphere immediately became tense; Wan Qiweng’s actions made her attitude clear.

What to do, Gong Ruini glanced at Zhao Xuran, this was truly a moment where the head of the family needed to step forward.

"Wouldn’t you move my luggage inside?"

"Weren’t you suggesting I take a shower; shouldn’t you be preparing the bath for me?" Wan Qiweng acted as if she hadn’t noticed the tense atmosphere, speaking coolly.

Phew, as Wan Qiweng spoke, the atmosphere rapidly warmed, "Alright, I’ll prepare the bath."

"Xiao Zhi, help move my mom’s luggage inside."

Seeing Wan Yihui suddenly come to life, Wan Qiweng smiled, "Thanks, Ni Zi."

"Thank you, everyone." Wan Qiweng glanced at the excited back of Wan Yihui, her expression was slightly awkward, but she still thanked Gong Ruini and the others.

Gong Ruini dared not genuinely accept Wan Qiweng’s thanks, though she initially eased the tension, who knew her real thoughts?

After all, someone with high expectations for her son, suddenly discovering her satisfactory son likes the same sex would definitely be furious.

"I really don’t know why Xiao Hui likes men." Having finished her shower, although still feeling tired, Wan Qiweng, now slightly recovered, commented openly while eating.

"The Wan Family has had a reputable name, not excellent, but at least nothing like this. You know when I learned about this, my heart was..." Recalling those days made Wan Qiweng want to cry.

Wiping away a tear, "I can neither tell my grandfather nor Cai Ming, if they knew, other than worry, what else could there be?"

I thought about strictly educating Xiao Hui; he was a sensible child from a young age, he could change."

"I never expected him to be so stubborn." Wan Qiweng tried hard not to cry, but she could not help it.

One learns the news and endures various hardships, even when wanting to cry can only cry when alone; otherwise, if asked why, she wouldn’t know how to reply.

Crying in front of Gong Ruini and the others was truly humiliating, but after a good cry, she felt much better.

"At least the heart feels less blocked." A good cry had relieved Wan Qiweng, accepting the handkerchief passed by Wan Yihui.

"I can’t make Xiao Hui change his sexual orientation, I can only hope his future isn’t too tough." Though she has little exposure to homosexuality, she knows the path is quite difficult.

Whether in China or abroad, too many people will look at Xiao Hui with strange eyes, "The path is yours to choose, no matter how tough ahead, you have to walk it alone, even if crawling."

Does this mean she’s come to terms? Wan Yihui was stunned. Even though her arrival hadn’t embarrassed him, he dared not hope for a smile.

Unexpected surprise came so fast, "Mom, I know it will be tough, I’ve thought about trying to change."

"I’ve also considered trying to restrain myself, like many others, marrying and having children, but I find it difficult, and I don’t want to harm an innocent woman."

He could easily plead busy with work and not often return home, but his conscience won’t allow it.

"I’m just worried what you’ll do when you’re old." Two men can’t have children; what will happen to her Xiao Hui once old?

"When I’m old, I have nephews; I can be with Brother Xiao Zhi," Wan Yihui genuinely felt unworried, "I’m going to work hard to earn money."

"Mom, I’ve decided that I’ll become an architect like Ieoh Ming Pei, I’ll work hard to make the world remember me."

Wan Qiweng had accepted that her son was gay; the only thing she could do was support whatever career he pursued.

"Earlier, I said the business would go to Xiao Hong, though it feels unfair to you, it was not said in jest." Saying this in such an atmosphere seemed excessive, but it had to be said.

"Mom, I understand." Wan Yihui wasn’t foolish; when he caused a commotion before, it wasn’t truly about gaining the Wan family’s assets, it was his extreme show of dissatisfaction.

"If I inherit the family business, it would invite endless attacks on the Wan Family, affecting the Zhao Family and the Gong Family; I understand." The relationship of the three families couldn’t be easily divided by any ordinary person’s rhetoric.

But once the Wan Family has a leader with an alleged ’black history,’ those lurking enemies would become restless, banding together to attack.

"I can’t disregard everyone for my selfish desires."

Wan Qiweng had anticipated Xiao Hui might rebel, as he did by acting out upon hearing her plans before. Never expected that a trip to the United States would have him mature so much.

"Those factories and such are for Xiao Hong, but the real estate, aside from the Wan Family’s old residence, is yours, including our savings." To this day, Wan Qiweng still doesn’t understand why her good son turned out this way, but it doesn’t hinder her from planning for him.

Even with Zhao Xuran and the others occasionally keeping an eye, ensuring life won’t be too bad, but as a mother, she wishes to leave her son with more and better things.
