Back to the 70s: My Childhood Sweetheart Spoils Me Rotten
Chapter 1482 - 1484
Zhan Jing looked at Zhao Xuran, who was busy checking the luggage, with a guilty expression.
"Ni Zi, I’m really sorry this time." Originally agreeing to come to the United States was to take care of Gong Ruini.
But shortly after arriving, she had to return due to domestic affairs, and Zhan Jing felt all sorts of guilt.
But this issue is really quite troublesome; if she doesn’t go back to take charge, it will become very difficult to handle.
Meanwhile, Ni Zi’s health isn’t that great, and Zhan Jing is on the verge of going crazy.
"Once I sort out the domestic issues, I’ll come back." Zhan Jing kept praying for a quick resolution, otherwise, she might lose her mind.
Although she acknowledged the current attending doctor’s capability, he couldn’t possibly focus on just one patient among so many.
"Actually, I should stay; I can handle any issues immediately." The more Zhan Jing thought about her absence, the more she worried that Gong Ruini might run into trouble.
With someone knowledgeable in medicine at home, solutions can be found quickly in case of emergencies. Though Zhan Jing has been diligently teaching Zhao Xuran some emergency response tactics, she still remains uneasy.
In fact, Gong Ruini herself felt quite fortunate; although recent check-ups showed no issues, she had a sense that extended baths might bring a good result.
But having someone constantly watch her is not ideal; what if Zhan Jing discovers something amiss?
A doctor’s occupational quirks might lead them to explore the reasons for her health improvements, and the best approach would certainly be keeping an eye on Gong Ruini.
The attending doctor did notice signs of improvement and was curious, but he couldn’t follow Gong Ruini around all the time without her consent.
If Gong Ruini had to choose, she’d prefer the doctor to observe her gradual recovery. Perhaps this charming doctor would believe it’s divine intervention, considering he’s a devout Christian.
Gong Ruini considered revealing the existence of the space to her family but eventually decided against it.
No matter how close they are, encountering such extraordinary events might lead to unpredictable choices, and Gong Ruini had no idea how they might react.
"Mom, don’t worry." After checking in the luggage, Zhao Xuran returned to find Zhan Jing talking incessantly to Gong Ruini.
Anyone could tell she was immensely worried just by listening, although Zhao Xuran felt a bit resentful given his wife’s and child’s special situation.
Nevertheless, the domestic matter was significant enough that if it could be handled internally, no one would have sought help from abroad.
"Mom, don’t worry."
"You can wait until the domestic issue is resolved, and then comfortably spend the New Year at home before coming back to the United States."
"However, no matter how busy you are, mom, you must be present for Ni Zi’s delivery." Though missing a regular visit might be tolerable, attending the childbirth is imperative.
There was no need for Zhao Xuran to emphasize; Zhan Jing was committed, "No matter how severe domestic matters are, I’ll surely be there."
"Your father will be there too."
"And your father-in-law’s side will be there as well." This was a monumental event, heralding the third generation of the Zhao and Gong families, and required everyone’s presence.
"As for the house, please be more attentive. It’s been under renovation for quite some time; why isn’t it done yet?" Saying this, Zhan Jing felt agitated.
Transforming the courtyard house took about a year due to its garden and extensive grounds.
The most critical part was restoring historical buildings, which demanded specific materials and craftsmen who carefully crafted, understandably consuming additional time.
But wasn’t the U.S. more about reinforced concrete? Is such a prolonged period necessary?
"Ensure thorough ventilation, making it best to move in right after Ni Zi gives birth." At first, Zhan Jing believed the house her son bought was decent.
Yet after residing longer, Zhan Jing increasingly felt it lacked compared to the courtyard house.
"Even if it’s close to Central Park, what good is it? It’s quite chaotic," she grumbled, implying dissatisfaction with the current living conditions.
Zhao Xuran was equally helpless; if given a choice, he’d speed up the remodeling and relocate.
But could mere desire make it happen? "Mom, you don’t know those Americans." Zhao Xuran was nearly driven mad by them.
"Offer them overtime pay." Zhan Jing knew American labor costs were high, but she was stunned by their arrogance.
Would paying extra for overtime solve anything? "They don’t want overtime pay."
Are there really people refusing overtime pay these days? Zhan Jing was stunned; are Americans that wealthy?
Before coming abroad, Zhan Jing assumed Americans were affluent, but through increased interactions, she concluded there were too many lazy people.
"So what do we do now?" Zhan Jing didn’t care how things were resolved; she only wanted a timeline for moving in.
"I’ve negotiated with them to handle this phase, and I’ll switch people for the next phase." Had it not been for potential significant conflicts, Zhao Xuran would have changed teams earlier.
Waiting until the next phase to switch people? Zhan Jing frowned, feeling like saying to Zhao Xuran that he wasn’t being attentive enough.
The urge was suppressed by seeing her son’s helpless face, leaving only the option to shake her head and swallow her words.
"Hurry up," Zhan Jing suddenly recalled the renovation company was recommended by Zhao Guangran.
"Your brother, spending years in the United States, knowing so many people, yet handling things like this." Worried about Gong Ruini listening, Zhan Jing refrained from saying the fellow had been unreliable since childhood.
Zhan Jing didn’t voice it, but Gong Ruini automatically connected the dots. Poor Zhao Guangran, would he feel his ears burning in Japan?
Dai Limin held a pen, waiting for Zhao Guangran to continue instructing him so he could proceed.
After waiting for ages with no further orders, he looked up to see Zhao Guangran touching his ear with a flushed face.
It startled Dai Limin; what had changed to bring such amorousness?
More importantly, this expression was directed at him. Fortunately, no one was around; otherwise, it would lead to a scandal.
When Dai Limin considered leaving, "My ears are hot; who is speaking ill of me?"
Ha ha ha ha, someone talking bad about him? Dai Limin wanted to say he mustn’t know how many people he’d offended, blocking their interests, inevitably leading to gossip.
"It’s either my brother or mom, or perhaps my sister-in-law." Zhao Guangran was certain.
How did he suspect Zhao Xuran and the group? Dai Limin was puzzled; shouldn’t people guess it’s an enemy?
"You wouldn’t understand." Zhao Guangran flashed him a dismissive look.
Calling him clueless, Dai Limin anticipated the explanation.
"With so many enemies, they constantly talk about me, but my ears don’t usually burn." Zhao Guangran calmly explained why he didn’t suspect them.
Impressive, Zhao Guangran does have a thick skin, astonishingly so!
