Chapter 723 - 753: Marriage Is a Matter of Fate

  • Next Chapter

That evening, when she went over to her parents’ for dinner, Qin Jiao brought the matter up with them.

Upon hearing about it, Su Yun thought it was a good idea. "Third Brother has changed a lot over the years," she said. "He’s become much more grounded and motivated. It would be nice for him to have a partner."

Qin Zhonghui said, "But we can’t be the ones to decide this. I’ll ask Third Brother later if he has any intention of remarrying."

After everything he had been through, the Qin Jiqun of today was single-mindedly focused on one thing: diligently earning and saving money while waiting for his son, Xiao Tao, to be released from prison.

When the time came for Xiao Tao to get married, he would take out his savings to pay for it.

If Xiao Tao didn’t want to get married, then he would just live a good life with his son.

The Qin Jiqun of today had finally realized that as long as he was willing to work hard, he would never starve and could definitely live a good life.

Qin Jiao felt the same way.

She couldn’t be overly enthusiastic just because it was her friend’s mother. After all, a marriage depended on the two people involved.

There was also the fact that if her uncle had no intention of remarrying, or if they weren’t fated to be, or if Aunt Jiang got to know him and discovered he wasn’t the person she was looking for, the two of them still wouldn’t be able to end up together.

Marriage was all about fate.

Old Mrs. Qin, however, was listening from the side, her eyes gleaming. She quietly asked Qin Jiao, "Xiao Jiao, this woman you mentioned... how old is she? What does she look like? Does she only have the one daughter? Is there anyone else in her family?"

Qin Jiao replied, "Aunt Jiang divorced her husband many years ago. For the past ten-plus years, she’s been raising Xiao Yue on her own. I think she’s about three or four years older than my uncle, but she’s a very good person—the gentle and hardworking type. Her relatives are all in her hometown, and they don’t see each other often."

Mrs. Qin was a little disappointed after hearing this. "Ah, so she’s already forty-four or forty-five? No, no, that won’t do. She’s too old. She won’t be able to have any more kids."

Qin Jiao said, "Grandma, nothing is set in stone yet. Besides, even if Uncle agrees and they start spending time together, they still won’t end up together if they’re not a good match."

Qin Zhonghui also chimed in, "Mom, you should stay out of this. If there’s really a suitable person, wouldn’t you want Third Brother to have a companion? Plus, Third Brother has been to prison, and Xiao Tao is still there. I’m actually worried she might be put off by all that."

Hearing them say this, Old Mrs. Qin fell silent.

’In her heart, of course, her youngest son was the best.’

’But it was also an indisputable fact that her youngest son had been to prison and her eldest grandson was still there.’

Seeing that her grandmother had gone quiet, Qin Jiao chatted with her parents about other things. After dinner, she and Shen Yi took their child and went home.

After they got home, Qin Jiao sighed. "It’s such a good thing we don’t live with your parents. Did you see that just now? My grandma is getting so muddle-headed. She still can’t let go of her old-fashioned ideas, treating my uncle like he’s some precious treasure. She probably still thinks he can remarry some young maiden. My mom couldn’t get a word in the entire time; it was just me and my dad talking."

Shen Yi said, "Don’t worry, Jiao Jiao. My mom and Beidou have plenty of houses; they definitely won’t live with us. And even if we stay together for the holidays, if my mom really does something wrong, you can just tell her directly."

Qin Jiao replied, "I’m not saying anything. You can go say it yourself."

"If I say something to my mom, Beidou will definitely snap at me. But if you say it, my mom will listen, and Beidou won’t snap at you."

How should one put it? In this big family of theirs, everyone doted on the women and slighted the men.
