Chapter 246 - 185: Be Mentally Prepared
Chapter 246: Chapter 185: Be Mentally Prepared
Chen Lin paused for a moment before continuing, "So, if I can train an AI that’s intelligent enough, it can handle this ’translation’ work for me. At that point, my mathematical abilities will be able to truly realize their greatest value."
These were his conclusions after two days of research and contemplation.
He was becoming increasingly aware that the problems he would need to solve in the future would only grow more difficult and complex.
He couldn’t always rely on others to help him abstract and summarize the problems.
And now that he had solved the AI hallucination problem, a highly intelligent AI would be perfectly capable of handling this work.
After listening to Chen Lin’s explanation, Xiang Wentian nodded slowly.
"Your idea makes a lot of sense."
He approved of Chen Lin’s plan, then added:
"However, if you really do develop a highly intelligent AI, it will be capable of far more than what you just mentioned."
Xiang Wentian’s gaze grew distant, as if he were looking past Chen Lin and seeing a more distant future.
"You should give it more thought."
Chen Lin nodded solemnly.
"I will, Elder Xiang."
After these words, a brief silence fell over the drawing room.
Xiang Wentian leaned back in his wheelchair, his eyes slightly closed. It was as if he were savoring a memory, or perhaps simply resting.
Chen Lin didn’t disturb him, just sitting quietly across from him, waiting.
A few seconds later, Xiang Wentian’s eyes snapped open.
He looked at Chen Lin, a complex smile gracing his lips.
"I really envy you, Chen Lin."
His voice was filled with an indescribable sigh of emotion.
"To be so good at mathematics..."
Xiang Wentian’s gaze drifted through the window to the distant, azure expanse of Fuxian Lake, as if he were lost in a memory.
"Back when I was working, my math skills weren’t strong, so many of my projects took unnecessary detours. We wasted a lot of time."
"We did achieve some results in the end, but looking back on it now..."
His voice grew softer, as if he were talking to himself.
"If there had been someone like you back then, perhaps I could have accomplished even more."
As he spoke, Xiang Wentian’s breathing suddenly grew ragged.
His face grew visibly paler, and fine beads of sweat broke out on his forehead.
The caregiver, who had been standing quietly to the side, immediately noticed something was wrong. She rushed forward to support Xiang Wentian.
However, Xiang Wentian weakly raised a hand, waving her away.
He used all his strength to steady his breathing, his gaze falling upon Chen Lin once more.
"One last question."
Xiang Wentian’s voice was faltering, but his tone remained firm.
"Academician Liang should have told you that if you apply for the ’Distinguished Talent’ category of the ’Ten Thousand Talents Plan,’ you will eventually come into contact with... extremely cutting-edge, highly confidential projects."
He took a sharp breath and continued:
"This means that some of your most important achievements... will never be known to the vast majority of people."
"Are you..."
Xiang Wentian’s eyes, which had begun to lose focus, struggled to fix on Chen Lin’s face.
"Mentally prepared for that?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Lin nodded solemnly without the slightest hesitation.
"I am, Elder Xiang."
His tone was incredibly firm.
For Chen Lin, this truly wasn’t an issue.
’I don’t consider myself a particularly noble person.’
’If I were asked to live in obscurity under harsh conditions for twenty years just to research something, I might hesitate, weigh my options, and maybe even refuse.’
’But now, my material circumstances are already excellent.’
’The income from Little Financial Planner alone exceeds 20 million a month.’
’Under these circumstances, if it has to be a secret, so be it.’
’In fact, being too famous would just cause me a lot of headaches.’
’Besides, making a tangible contribution to the country is a very meaningful thing in itself.’
Seeing Chen Lin’s unhesitating nod, a genuine, satisfied smile bloomed on Xiang Wentian’s pale face.
"Good..."
His voice was already weak, but that one word, "Good," was spoken with exceptional clarity.
"Very good..."
Seeing his condition, the caregiver hurried forward again and supported Xiang Wentian by the shoulders.
"Elder Xiang, you should rest now. You’ve said more than enough for today," she said with concern.
Xiang Wentian waved his hand again. He took a few deep breaths, trying to steady his breathing.
A moment later, he looked at Chen Lin, his expression having regained a measure of composure.
"I think that’s enough for our meeting today."
Xiang Wentian’s voice was still weak, but his tone had become much gentler.
"Chen Lin, in the future, whether it’s with your research or with running your company, feel free to contact me if you run into any trouble."
He paused, then added:
"As for the ’Ten Thousand Talents Plan,’ I’ll speak to Academician Liang about it. On your end, just follow the normal application process."
Hearing this, Chen Lin felt a wave of relief wash over him.
Xiang Wentian hadn’t said it explicitly, but the meaning behind his words couldn’t have been clearer—
’Elder Xiang was willing to vouch for me!’
"Thank you, Elder Xiang!" Chen Lin stood up and gave Xiang Wentian a deep, respectful bow.
Xiang Wentian smiled and waved his hand, signaling that there was no need for such formalities.
Just as Chen Lin was preparing to take his leave, he suddenly remembered something.
’Hiring programmers.’
In fact, early that morning, Chen Lin had sent President Peng Yifeng a WeChat message explaining that he wanted to hire two or three top-tier programmers with extensive experience and solid skills in artificial intelligence.
President Peng had replied quickly, but the content of his message left Chen Lin somewhat disappointed.
President Peng had said on WeChat that it wasn’t going to be easy.
He could ask around for Chen Lin, but he couldn’t make any guarantees.
According to President Peng, even though it was true that large numbers of programmers left internet giants like Penguin and ALBB every year, and there were even many programmers returning from the USA who had previously worked at foreign giants like CloseAI and Doggie, the truly exceptional ones were a different story. The moment a top-tier programmer with real expertise in artificial intelligence hit the job market, they were instantly bombarded with incredible offers.
Although Yanhai Company’s valuation wasn’t low, it was still just a small startup. It had neither the technological foundation in AI nor an established team.
More importantly, while the money Chen Lin currently had was an astronomical sum for an ordinary person, it was still a far cry from the capital wielded by the giants truly pouring money into AI.
Therefore, recruiting the kind of programmer Chen Lin was looking for would be extremely difficult.
