Chapter 240: Chapter 180: This Is Me Helping You Vet
Five million in just two months? That was more than she and her husband’s lifetime salaries combined!
Chen Xian, however, appeared calm. He just nodded slightly, signaling for Chen Lin to continue.
"Three of our clients were quite large," Chen Lin continued. "One is Era of Creation, a giant in the domestic CNC machine tool industry. Another is Huanrun Pharmaceutical, a giant in the pharmaceutical sector. And the last one is the joint solid-state battery research group, a collaboration between our university and the Science and Technology University."
Hearing these names, Chen Xian’s pupils contracted almost imperceptibly.
As someone who had worked his way up to a mid-to-senior management position, he knew very well the weight these names carried.
Both Era of Creation and Huanrun Pharmaceutical were at the pinnacle of their respective industries.
To do business with companies of this caliber wasn’t just a matter of technical strength; it was a testament to one’s connections and resources.
"What about the company’s expenses?" Chen Xian pressed.
"The expenses aren’t too high," Chen Lin said frankly. "The university gave us a discount on this office space, so the rent is five thousand a month. As for employee salaries, Huang Yiyi, who you just met, is my administrative assistant and director of corporate legal affairs. I pay her thirty thousand a month, after taxes. Sun Yu, the business manager, has a monthly salary of eight thousand. Yunqing and Shen Yan are both interns, earning 250 a day."
Hearing this, Lin Xiaoqi couldn’t help but gasp in astonishment. "Thirty thousand a month? That’s higher than your dad’s salary!"
Chen Xian ignored his wife’s outburst and quickly did the math in his head.
Five million in revenue, minus a few months of employee salaries, office rent, and various miscellaneous expenses... the net profit had to be at least 4.5 million.
More importantly, all of the company’s clients were industry giants.
This meant that future collaborations were sustainable, and the company had enormous potential for growth.
At this thought, the heart that had been heavy with worry for his son’s future was finally put at ease.
He looked at his son, who stood before him with a relaxed and carefree expression, his eyes filled with undeniable relief and pride.
Chen Xian and Lin Xiaoqi sat in the office for a while longer. Chen Xian glanced at the time on his phone; it was already ten-thirty.
"It’s about time," he said, standing up. "Our high-speed train ticket is for two-thirty this afternoon. We should go get some lunch."
"Okay." Chen Lin stood up as well.
Lin Xiaoqi was still reluctant to leave, but hearing her husband, she had no choice but to stand up and say a wistful goodbye to the young people in the office.
Chen Lin walked with his parents toward the campus exit.
They had barely left the co-working space building when Lin Xiaoqi sidled up to Chen Lin with a grin, nudging her husband beside her with an elbow.
"Hey, Old Chen, did you see that? Our son’s company is full of pretty girls!"
She lowered her voice and said mysteriously, "I saw some gossip online before, saying our son is dating that girl, Shen Yan."
"At first, I thought they were a perfect match, a talented man and a beautiful woman. Now that I’ve seen her in person, she’s truly beautiful, but her personality is a little introverted."
Then, her tone shifted. "That girl Yunqing is also very nice! Not only is she bright and stunning, but she’s so poised and gracious with people. And she’s so cheerful! Did you see how she pulled me over and poured me tea? She really knows how to handle things!"
"And that Huang Yiyi," Lin Xiaoqi added, smacking her lips as she continued her commentary. "She might not be as gorgeous as the first two, but she’s a classic beauty. And did you see that professional, competent air about her? You can tell she’s the type who gets things done."
Listening on the side, Chen Lin’s mouth twitched.
’Good grief,’ he thought. ’Is my mom treating me like an emperor and picking out concubines for me?’
"Mom!" he finally interrupted, unable to take it anymore. "Can you please stop letting your imagination run wild?"
"What do you mean, ’run wild’?" Lin Xiaoqi said, displeased. "Mom is helping you screen them! Let me tell you, you need to hurry up!"
"I know, I know," Chen Lin replied perfunctorily, but inwardly he made a firm resolution. ’I can never let Mom be around Shen Yan and Yunqing at the same time again. Otherwise, who knows what kind of trouble she’ll stir up.’
The three of them reached the campus gate, and Chen Lin led his parents into a small restaurant he had visited a few times with his buddies from Room 406.
The restaurant wasn’t large, but business was booming. Its menu was all about heavy oil, heavy salt, and rich flavors.
Chen Xian and Lin Xiaoqi usually cooked for themselves at home and preferred lighter flavors.
But because their son was treating them and kept putting food on their plates, they enjoyed the meal immensely.
After lunch, Chen Lin walked his parents to the roadside and hailed a taxi to take them to the high-speed rail station.
"Dad, Mom, travel safe. Send me a WeChat message when you get home."
"We will. You should hurry back to the office. Don’t let us keep you from your work."
After watching the taxi disappear into the distance, Chen Lin turned and headed back toward the university.
He needed to hurry back to the office to finish up and thoroughly revise the draft of the paper he had been writing all weekend.

「That afternoon. Yunnan Province, Yuxi City.」
A certain sanatorium was situated on a quiet hillside by Fuxian Lake.
From the outside, the sanatorium’s architecture was plain and its grounds weren’t large. A few unremarkable gray, three-story buildings were nestled amidst lush, green woods.
However, anyone who stepped inside would discover that its interior was exquisitely decorated.
The various medical facilities and living equipment in the rooms were all state-of-the-art models.
Liang Tianshi walked down the sanatorium’s long corridor. The windows on both sides were covered by heavy curtains, and the alternating light and shadow cast his blurry silhouette onto the massive, Roman-style columns.
His secretary, Cai, followed behind him.
The two of them stopped in front of a door decorated with a large, red character for "Fortune."
Liang Tianshi stood at the door, hesitating for a few seconds before, as if having made up his mind, he gently pushed open the door, which hadn’t been fully closed.
It was a suite. The outer room was a sitting area, and the inner room was the bedroom.
The bedroom window faced Fuxian Lake, offering a panoramic view of the gem-like blue waters and surrounding mountains.
But at this moment, Liang Tianshi was in no mood to admire the scenery outside.
The moment he entered, his gaze fell upon the large hospital bed in the inner room.
In the room, a caregiver in a plain uniform was sitting by the side of the bed.
She was carefully lifting the patient’s arm, which was as thin as a withered branch, and gently massaging the loose muscles and skin on his back to prevent bedsores from prolonged bed rest.
Seeing Liang Tianshi walk in, the caregiver gave him an almost imperceptible nod and then whispered, "Elder Xiang’s condition is very good today. He even watched the news for a bit this morning, and all his vitals have stabilized."
She glanced at the old man on the bed, whose eyes were tightly shut, and continued, "He just fell asleep. Perhaps... you could wait outside for a little while?"
Liang Tianshi was about to nod when the old man on the bed, who had been keeping his eyes closed, suddenly opened them slowly.
"I’m still awake."
His voice was soft and a bit hoarse, but his enunciation was still clear.
When he saw Liang Tianshi standing at the door, a soft light instantly appeared in his eyes, which were cloudy with age.
Seeing this, the caregiver quickly brought a chair for Liang Tianshi so he could sit beside Xiang Wentian.
"Liang..." Xiang Wentian looked at his old friend, a faint, weak smile touching his lips. "They only told me this morning that you were coming..."
"I called yesterday, but they said you were resting, so I told them not to disturb you." Liang Tianshi felt a pang of sorrow as he looked at his friend’s condition.
Every time he came to this hospital room, he had to mentally prepare himself. He could never bear to see his friend in his current state.
"Mm," Xiang Wentian acknowledged, then shook his head with a wry smile. "These days, I spend more time asleep than I do awake..."
Liang Tianshi was silent for a moment before he tried to persuade him, "Old Xiang, why don’t you... move back to the cadre sanatorium in the Imperial Capital? The medical care there is better than here, after all. Besides, your children are all in the Imperial Capital, so it would be easier for them to take care of you."
