Chapter 6: Chapter 6:Devil Himself

Morgan tried to run and help his mom, but the crowd blocked his way. He was just a kid after all. Mrs. Liue saw the crazy woman coming and quickly got to her feet.

"I don’t even know you..." Mrs. Liue said.

"How would you?" Shei snapped. "You sit safe at home while your husband kills innocent people. This is payback!"

Shei grabbed Mrs. Liue’s hair and yanked hard. Mrs. Liue tried to pull away, but Shei was much stronger. She yanked again and let go. Mrs. Liue crashed to the ground, dirt covering her clothes.

"This is karma!" Shei shouted. A whip appeared in her hand. "Killing you will give me so many points." She smiled with pure evil in her eyes.

Morgan saw the whip rise. He pushed through the crowd with all his strength and jumped in front of his mom. The whip came down hard across his back. His clothes tore open. Pain burned across his skin as blood started to flow. But Morgan didn’t fight back. He just hugged his mom tight, protecting her from the next hits.

The crowd went quiet, shocked by the boy’s bravery. Even Shei paused for a second.

"You brat! You want to play hero? I’ll give you that!" She raised the whip again.

But before it could fall, a bright lightning chain shot out from the crowd and wrapped tight around Shei. She tried to break free, but the chains only squeezed harder. Blood started dripping down her arms. The more she fought, the tighter they got. Finally, she dropped to her knees, weak and shaking.

The crowd moved aside. El stepped forward, his face serious. Blue lightning chains came from his arm.

"Shei, you know the rules of Devil’s Shelter," El said, his voice low and scary. "We don’t hurt our own."

"But sir! She’s not a Calamity!" Shei cried.

"Her son is. And you whipped him. That breaks the rules." El’s voice stayed cold.

Shei’s face turned red with anger. "But they hunted us! They killed my family! And we’re supposed to welcome them?"

Some people in the crowd nodded and started agreeing.

"If we kill them, how are we different from them?" El said. "That’s exactly what the System wants."

"I know how you feel," El added as he released the chains. "But this isn’t the right way."

"What if they’re spies!" someone yelled from the crowd. More voices joined in. The people grew louder and angrier. El was losing control.

"Take this to the Devil himself!" another person shouted.

The crowd turned into chaos. Everyone wanted revenge. El raised his hands high.

**BOOM!**

A huge burst of lightning exploded above them. The noise stopped everyone at once.

"Fine," El said. "We go to the Devil."

They all started walking toward the big stone castle ahead. Mrs. Liue limped along, still hurt. Morgan stayed close, holding her up. El moved next to them when no one was watching.

"I’m really sorry," he whispered. "I don’t know if the Devil will let you stay."

"This was going to happen," Morgan said quietly.

"They all want revenge," El replied. Then he smiled a little. "You know, you’re pretty mature for your age."

Soon they stood at the castle gate. El pushed it open and walked in first. The crowd followed. Inside, they faced a tall throne. The Devil sat with his back turned.

"My king," El said. "We have a problem that needs your attention."

Calamities have strong auras. The stronger they are, the stronger it feels. Even normal people can sense them. But the power coming from the Devil was much stronger than anything Morgan had felt from his dad. It pressed down on the room like heavy weight.

Slowly, the Devil turned around in his seat. His burning eyes locked straight onto Morgan.
