Ascension Of The Blood Supreme
Chapter 190. Arriving in MadCity
The walls of Madcity were thick and impregnable.
Currently, the gates were opened.
"Unlike the towns, entrance fees are not taken here. We just ask for names we can add to the city register before allowing citizens to enter. But, senior saved our lives, so, not only will I help you skip the queue, I will personally pay for your apartment" The lead enforcer said.
" I thought you wanted me to be the one to lead the senior to his apartme-"
"Shut up" The lead enforcer silenced one enforcer before she could even finish speaking.
Many in the car chuckled inwardly.
Power indeed was everything.
These enforcers were actually fighting over who should help the senior. Everyone wanted to get in his good books.
"Just head to the guards at the front and let the senior and his acquaintance mention their names. After that, we will enter the city and find a place for them to stay, " the lead enforcer said to the driver.
He turned to the other customers "The rest of you, can get off and join the queue"
Everyone immediately got out of the car, leaving the lodgekeeper, his acquaintance and the enforcers in the car.
The passengers sighed in relief after getting off.
Sitting in the same vehicle with the lodgekeeper was so suffocating. They could not even breathe properly. They all thought they were going to die.
Finally, they had gotten out of this vehicle.
The car continued ahead, drawing the attention of the queue gathered at the gates.
Soon, the enforcers stepped out of the car and said some things to the enforcers at the gate.
Aiden and Dickinson stepped out.
Some of the people in the queue were furious. They had been here since morning, trying to get their names registered and enter the city. Someone just popped up with some enforcers and they were allowing them to cut the queue?
Their anger was justifiable.
"Are those enforcers"
" Why did they drop some passengers off and leave some passengers in the car to help them cut the queue?"
" These guys are trying to cut the queue"
" Hey... this is not fair"
" Yeah. What is so special about those passengers that they are allowing them entry?"
One of the passengers from the vehicle the lodgekeeper was in on their way here, tapped the shoulder of someone who was complaining.
The person whose shoulder had been tapped turned to look at the pregnant woman.
" What?"
" Keep quiet" The pregnant woman said "That black haired man with blue eyes is called The Lodgekeeper. He’s a terrifying fellow you don’t want to cross. He killed 50 expert rank 2 raiders on his own on our way here. The enforcers are giving him special treatment because he’s a powerhouse"
" What?" The person swallowed his saliva in fear.
" Thank you" he thanked the pregnant woman sincerely. He didn’t want to die for offending a powerhouse.
" You’re welcome," the pregnant woman nodded.
" Honey, we should mind our business" Her fiance said "If they want to complain, let them complain"
" I’m only trying to save us. If they offend the lodgekeeper, what if he kills everyone here, including us, in a fit of anger?" The pregnant woman said.
" Sigh... you have a point" Her fiance, the man replied.
As for the fellow who had been tipped information about the lodgekeeper, he told the person next to him. The person, told the one next to him, and the news about the lodgekeeper spread to the front queue.
By the time the news spread to the front queue, all those who were complaining earlier had become silent. Glints of understanding were flashing through their eyes.
So this was why....
At the front, Aiden was oblivious to the rumors spreading about him.
He didn’t know that by the time he left MadCity, people would still be calling him, The Lodgekeeper, even though he won’t be doing any lodge business here. The name lodgekeeper would become a feared name in the city by the time he was leaving.
Because the name would not even be associated with a lodge he used to manage in some town anymore. It would be associated with how terrifying the person behind the name was.
" Your name, senior" The enforcer collecting names asked politely. He didn’t dare to be overbearing and casual. Obviously, the enforcers who came with the lodgekeeper had told him about what happened on the desert.
Aiden had long thought of the name he’d be using for his fake identity.
He wanted to go for something extremely unassuming.
"Alex Turner please" He said.
The enforcers and Dickinson chuckled inwardly.
Was that a fake name or his real name?
Whatever. No one cared. All who came through these parts were criminals. Fake name or not. Who cared?
The man wrote the name down.
He looked at Dickinson.
Dickinson had long decided to use a different name.
His parents were currently in prison in the city.
He had left the city as a child so no one remembered him. But his parents had been framed for the city lord’s wife’s death.
Who didn’t know the name Dickenson?
He would be dragged to the prisons to join them if he ever revealed his actual name.
" Browner, name’s Browner Eliot," Dickenson said.
The man wrote the name down.
Again, he knew it was a fake name... but no one cared.
"Enjoy your stay" The enforcer said.
Aiden and Dickenson nodded and entered the car.
The other enforcers didn’t enter the car. Only the one who volunteered to get an apartment for the lodgekeeper and his acquaintance entered the vehicle.
"Sorry for the delay, senior Turner" the man said.
" No problem," Aiden replied.
"We are currently in the eastern district. A few drives and we will find an apartment for you and Mr Eliot" The enforcer said.
" Noted, thank you" Aiden replied politely.
" It’s the least I can do, senior" the enforcer replied.
The car drove through the city gates, into the eastern district of the city.
