Chapter 151: Chapter 150: Fear Not God-like Opponents, but God-Tier Teammates

After the main forces of the Lord’s Mansion and the Noble United Commerce Association departed the town, the Blood Eye Association immediately began preparations to welcome the Governor and take control.

According to the original plan, they were to incite several bandit settlements from the Northern Territory to enter the town to burn, kill, and plunder. The goal was to create chaos and seize the chance to cripple the town’s guard forces.

Then, once the townspeople and local commerce associations had suffered significant losses and begun to panic, the Blood Eye Association would dispatch its main force. Posing as Count Heta’s troops, they would arrive to "quell the bandit uprising."

With Viscount Birch away, they could justifiably take over the town, and the "big fish" at the Golden Maple Leaf Trading House would naturally be unable to escape their grasp.

However, this entire plan had to be changed. The Eternal Frost Sect had been careless, and news of their siege on Paris Manola was leaked ahead of schedule.

The Lord’s Mansion and the Golden Maple Leaf Trading House sent their elite forces to rescue Paris Manola. This altered the composition of the town’s defenses, and many commerce associations began to flee.

Under these circumstances, the number of bandits sent in to plunder had to be reduced.

Otherwise, once the violence began, the resistance would be too weak. The bandits would likely spiral out of control and cause excessive damage.

The Blood Eye Association wanted a battered but controllable Birch Town, not a barren wasteland!

Furthermore, intelligence indicated that a contingent from the Sun Church had entered town. They were suspected to be investigating the rumor that "Reya Xavier is the Sun God’s Favored." The arrival of this faction added yet another variable to the situation and had to be factored into their plans.

As the Blood Eye Association’s man in charge of Birch Town, Damien was overwhelmed by this series of events. He was at his wit’s end and couldn’t help but curse the female relatives of those bastards from the Eternal Frost Sect.

’These damned icicles... Just you wait until the Governor arrives. I’ll make you pay!’

However, as the saying goes, speak of the devil...

He had just finished cursing the Eternal Frost Sect and was scratching his head over the latest reports from his subordinates when a confidant burst in without knocking.

"Master Damien! Something’s happened! Something’s not right on the streets!"

"What happened? What do you mean, ’not right’—"

Before Damien could finish his sentence, he realized what was wrong.

As his confidant pushed the door open, a dense white fog flowed in like a liquid current, spreading a layer across the floor!

He shot to his feet, shoved his confidant aside, and strode out the door.

Outside, the sky had grown dim, and snowflakes danced in the air. Over the ground, where the snow had been trampled into dark slush, a layer of white fog flowed slowly, shrouding all color.

Farther away, the fog was so thick that the outlines of buildings were completely invisible, as if the entire town had been plunged into a world of flawless white.

The confidant, who had followed him out, gasped.

"Master, it wasn’t like this a moment ago! What’s with all this fog?"

"Notify everyone immediately! We’re pulling out of Birch Town and going dark!"

"What!? But Master—"

"Follow your orders!"

The confidant instantly realized this was no joke. He acknowledged the command and departed, leaving Damien grinding his teeth in fury.

’These lunatics... lunatics... What in the hell are you trying to do!’

He only needed to feel the bone-chilling cold seeping from the fog to know this was the work of the Eternal Frost Sect!

’What in the world are those bastards thinking?’

’According to the plan, there was no reason for them to act in Birch Town. They were supposed to be in Meis Town, besieging Paris Manola and preventing his return!’

But no matter how furious he was, the situation had already developed: the Eternal Frost Sect was brazenly making its presence known!

A Cult parading openly in the streets... He couldn’t even begin to imagine the chain reaction that would trigger!

’Birch Town will descend into chaos ahead of schedule. All our revised plans will be useless. When the Governor arrives, he’ll find nothing but a complete disaster...’

’And he, Damien, would surely face punishment from his superiors.’

"Damned lunatics—"

After shooting a hateful glare at the encroaching fog, the bald, burly man turned back into their hideout. He quickly gathered all important items, then set the remaining documents and intelligence reports ablaze.

Once that was done, he picked up a precious short-range communication crystal and activated it without a second thought.

"Carina, we have a problem. Tell those jackals they’re not needed."

A reply came from the other end almost instantly.

"What!? Do you have any idea how much trouble I went through to placate those greedy bastards?"

"The Eternal Frost Sect is invading Birch Town in force. If they’ve got the balls to take on those lunatics, then by all means, let them come!"

"And another thing, tell Callum what’s happened. Let *him* figure out how to explain this to the Governor!"

Damien all but roared the words. He then crushed the now-dead communication crystal in his fist and scattered the fragments into the snow.

However, as he navigated two narrow alleyways, intending to leave town through a secret passage used for gang smuggling, he saw a familiar figure. It was that unhinged Priest from the Eternal Frost Sect, Midia.

The man appeared to be just passing by, walking slowly with his arms crossed over his chest in a gesture of reverence.

Upon seeing Damien, he slowly lowered his arms, turned, and offered a greeting.

"Ah, Mr. Damien. Good day."

The moment Damien saw him, however, he placed a hand on the Longsword at his waist and demanded in a cold voice,

"Midia, what in the hell are you people doing?"

"Oh, please don’t be so tense... my friend."

"I am here to invite you to witness our most glorious moment—"

A subtle smile played on the lips of the man in the deep blue robe.

"The return of the Holy Son."

"The Holy Son?"

The title, one of immense religious significance, set off alarm bells in Damien’s mind.

But he didn’t refuse outright. Instead, he began to back away slowly, trying to placate him with words.

"Well, congratulations to you, then..."

"It’s a shame, but I have a lot to attend to right now. I’m afraid I don’t have time for your invitation."

Midia, however, seemed not to have heard the polite refusal in Damien’s tone. The smile never left his face.

"It’s all right. It’s not as if I was asking for your opinion—"

Before the last of his words had faded, two tall, bandaged figures in plain white masks materialized from the fog. They appeared out of nowhere, one in front of Damien and one behind, and launched a pincer attack!

But Damien was on guard and had no intention of letting them succeed.

He instantly drew his sword, Battle Qi erupting from his body!

’Did they really take him for some useless commander who just hides in the back and gives orders?’

’He was a proud Knight-Level Warrior, damn it! Not someone to be trifled with!’

However, when Damien’s sword slashed out and collided with the two white figures, an irresistible, overwhelming force shattered his stance and slammed his entire body into the ground.

"How can this be!?"

Damien coughed up mouthful after mouthful of blood. His vision blurred, and he could only watch helplessly as Midia ambled toward him.

"Hehehe... Come now... Mr. Damien... Witness with me the glorious moment of my Lord..."
