Armed Train in the Apocalypse
Chapter 886 - 500: Embers of the Long Night (Part 9)
Watching Su Huan effortlessly maneuver, Qin Mian suddenly had a flash of insight.
"Are you the Tier Three Evolver from the outside?"
Su Huan weighed the dud grenade in his hand, just about to say something, his eyebrows slightly raised, and he looked towards the back, "Are those your people?"
Qin Mian’s eyelid twitched as he followed Su Huan’s line of sight, but everything outside was so dark, he couldn’t see anything clearly.
"No idea."
"Can you contact your main force?"
Su Huan asked.
Qin Mian hesitated a bit, he really couldn’t figure out Su Huan. It was already unusual for someone to look so striking yet inhuman, but those eyes were devoid of any emotion, as deep and unperturbed as an undersea abyss.
He didn’t dare to act or even speak, for fear of bringing utter Destruction upon the encampment.
Just as he hesitated, the sound of horse hooves came chasing from the north. Seeing Qin Mian and the others’ startled faces, Su Huan chuckled, tossing the grenade far away.
Then he turned around and said, "Let’s go. Since you can’t make the decisions, find someone who can."
With the sound of approaching hooves imminent, Qin Mian didn’t hesitate either. He called his comrades to take the wounded and start moving. As they went, he explained to Su Huan beside him, "I don’t know if I should trust you, but I can take you to see our guide officer. You can tell him whatever you need."
As soon as he finished speaking, a terrifying explosion came from the direction of the horse hooves, as if a blazing sun had risen, its bright flames dispelling the Eternal Night. The shockwave swept across the wilderness, the gale blinding Qin Mian, and through the narrow slits of his eyes, he saw Su Huan’s slightly roguish smile.
"Your grenades are quite powerful indeed..."
The clear voice was like a mountain stream, drumming his eardrums, yet amid such Vibration, it remained unwarped.
The explosion wasn’t fleeting, truly like a sun rising slowly, then falling slowly. Whether it was smoke or something else, it was dyed into a red fiery cloud that cast a gentle golden edge on the conductor’s profile.
Qin Mian thought he was entirely numb, but he was still awestruck, rendered speechless by this scene.
The horse hooves, the Eternal Night, everything vanished without a trace in this magnificent explosion; only the momentary Destruction’s stunning scenery lingered on his retinas.
’If only this were thrown on the core battleground, the students and squad leaders would not have died...’ Qin Mian thought.
Another storm passed, draping a face of chaotic dust. Gangdan and others climbed up from the ground, their expressions changing from wariness to awe when looking at Su Huan.
It was at this moment they truly believed Su Huan’s identity, or rather, reverenced his Power.
A Su Huan possessing such Power had no need to deceive them.
"Are you here to... resolve all this?"
Even though the night once again cloaked over, Qin Mian’s eyes remained bright, seemingly reflecting the recently risen sun.
"I don’t know what happened here," Su Huan shook his head, and when the sun finally extinguished, he added, "but if I get the chance, I’ll try."
Seeing the sincerity in Su Huan’s eyes, Qin Mian abruptly turned around, raising his arm to wipe his face.
"I’ll take you to see the guide officer."
...
"Why change directions?"
"It’s a temporary encampment, hehe, mainly because before, hehe..."
The Warrior in front of Su Huan grinned sheepishly, making Su Huan shake his head helplessly; this kid was quite the trickster.
It seemed that showing a little strength was indeed wise, saving a lot of trouble.
Su Huan led a small group of wounded traversing the wilderness, quickly reaching a so-called "encampment." It was merely a battlefield structure, most of it underground, with a few parts semi-exposed. The whole camp had only a few dim emergency lights, and a few dark sentries still lay hidden in a nondescript trench beside the camp.
Though, according to Su Huan’s senses, there weren’t many people in the encampment, it was sprawling, large enough to accommodate thousands easily.
The whole area teemed with an intricate network of trenches and fortifications.
With Qin Mian and others negotiating, they were smoothly welcomed back. Medical personnel took over the wounded, bustling about, but Su Huan never saw an official officer; surprisingly, the highest rank seemed to be that of the military doctor.
Qin Mian, aware of Su Huan’s confusion, quickly grabbed a nearby medic and asked, "Where’s the guide officer? Where did he go? Who’s in charge of the squad now?"
The latter paused before saying, "Received orders two hours ago; the reserve troops were all taken away too, never said who’s in charge."
Qin Mian anxiously asked, "Did he leave any instructions?"
"The guide officer said if the captain returns and needs me, that’s about all. Everyone, even the cooks, were taken away except the sentries."
After speaking, the medic hurried off to tend the injured, leaving just him and another medic in the whole camp—tonight would be busy indeed.
Qin Mian looked at Su Huan, embarrassed, "So, brother, are you in a hurry?"
Su Huan sensed the direction of the core battleground, letting out a soft sigh, "Forget it; I’ll just find it myself."
Qin Mian was immediately anxious, "How could we let you go alone, unfamiliar with the place?"
He turned to the others just returning, "Who’s still able to move?"
Once back, they hadn’t dispersed; apart from the few wounded, everyone else stood up. Gangdan quickly ran over, lugging an ammunition box, "All are pre-loaded magazines, three per person, hurry up."
Su Huan was a bit taken aback, "I’m just finding a path; no need for so many people..."
The Warriors said nothing, swiftly swapping out empty magazines, shedding all other gear, even their helmets, Gathering Strength.
