Armed Train in the Apocalypse
Chapter 733 - 424: The Chief Attendant’s Busy Day (Part 2)
He was now busy going to rescue those two guys.
Just climbing out of the train, he saw a man fiddling with a drone controller, clicking his tongue as he watched.
Xiaozhao paused for a moment and casually asked, "Brother Xiong, what are you doing?"
"Liu Yu’s two kids are too pitiful, tsk tsk..." Brother Xiong said, handing over the controller. The two people were hanging upside down on the steel beam of the outpost, below them stood a burly man, whipping back and forth with a crackling sound, extremely rhythmic.
The two of them screamed alternately, with a bit of melody.
Vice President Deng watched sternly from the side, showing no intention to stop it.
Perhaps not satisfied, He Jie pointed at the drone camera in the sky and cursed, "If you keep spinning over my head, you’ll report to the boot camp on your own!"
Brother Xiong shivered, quickly snatched the controller, and brought the drone back.
His days with the train crew were quite good; he didn’t want to suffer in the boot camp.
As Xiaozhao heard the lively voices of the two, he knew He Jie was in control and relaxed. He slowly walked over, and by the time he got there, He Jie had calmed down. He said a few words, and they all just went along with it.
As for the two, it was just superficial wounds, and they were given a day off to rest at ease.
After finishing up these things, it was already dark. The Little Box delivered a box meal of sweet and spicy fried eggs with green onions.
Xiaozhao looked at her suspiciously, "Are you okay?"
The Little Box eagerly said, "Of course I’m fine, eat up, senior brother, I specially asked the kitchen to make this according to your taste!"
"Are you sure you’re okay?"
"You think I’d harm you?"
Xiaozhao tentatively took a bite, while the Little Box just watched with a sly smile, like a fox that had just stolen a chicken.
Once Xiaozhao had eaten enough, she said, "Senior brother, it’s time to rush the new military uniforms. Why hasn’t the batch of materials I applied for been delivered yet?"
Xiaozhao froze in place. If it weren’t for his light brown hair being blown by the wind, one might think time had stopped.
Seeing him looking like he wanted to dig his throat out, the Little Box eagerly handed over a bottle of water.
Xiaozhao looked at the bottle and said mournfully, "You want to bribe me with just a box meal. Aren’t I a bit too cheap as the head conductor?"
The Little Box, looking pitiful, said, "I haven’t had new clothes to wear for a long time. What if Lin Jin gets tired of me and doesn’t like me anymore? This concerns my happiness in life as your junior sister..."
Xiaozhao glanced at the steel beam behind, where the two had just been let down, and said expressionlessly, "I might not be able to approve the materials, but I can have Captain He arrange a place for Lin Jin in the back."
The Little Box crossed her arms, giving him a look of "I knew you’d be useless as a senior brother."
Xiaozhao sighed, "How much do you need?"
"Tier One Materials for three sets of clothing."
Xiaozhao exchanged some points and gave her the redemption code, "Go get it yourself."
Finally getting rid of the Little Box, Xiaozhao sighed and hurried once again towards Director Xu’s laboratory. According to train standards, it’s far from time to rest just because it’s dark. He started working at five this morning, and according to train policy, he needed to work until at least five the next morning.
However, as the head conductor, even just 24-hour work hours aren’t enough; he had to work at least 30 hours.
Which means he couldn’t rest until noon tomorrow.
After going through the disinfection procedure, he walked towards the rear compartments, just entering, he saw the High Priest sitting there dazed. Upon seeing Xiaozhao, he gave a gentle smile, "The event from a few days ago was quite lively."
Except for eating, sleeping, and being researched, the High Priest would mostly sit here, almost becoming the greeter of Director Xu’s laboratory.
Over time, he was able to chat a bit with most of the high-ranking members on the train.
Car No. 44 was used for some simple experiments and for showcasing results, and sometimes served as a reception room.
But Car No. 45 was more like hell. On both sides were one-meter-wide, two-and-a-half-meter-deep compartments, housing Director Xu’s test subjects, the first two being the Second Priest and Third Priest of New Eden. They were considered old members, living comfortably due to high cooperation. Not only were their compartments two-tiered, but they also had some basic recreational facilities.
The third pair were two individuals wrapped completely in a Fungus Carpet, only their dull eyes exposed.
These were Wei Dong and Longyan from the East City Association.
After torturing Ding Hui, He Jie had them ground down to pieces but they didn’t die, being Tier One Evolvers, then brought back and occasionally taken for experiments.
Next door was a Donghuang Person, the only one left from the group that once infiltrated the train. No one knows what experiments were done on him, but his entire presence withered to the extreme, his hair as white as a dying candle.
Further down was a White Elephant woman soaking in a nutrient tank, shot half to death by Qu Hang, then dragged back. Her Tier Two combat prowess was too troublesome, so Director Xu kept her injuries maintained, leaving her in a dormant state.
A delightful melody came from the front, and a compartment door was surprisingly open, causing Xiaozhao’s heart to skip a beat as he quickened his pace.
Then he saw Mirror sitting inside watching a movie with great relish, wearing a black knitted sweater, her full legs stretched out freely, holding a dry meat strip over a meter long, and a blood-stained long-handled battle axe lay across her pale feet.
Xiaozhao jumped in shock, "What are you doing here?"
Mirror turned her head, her gaze calm, "Someone’s serving me, the food’s good too. Who are you, are you making my meals?"
Confirming that Mirror was in her "peaceful but amnesiac" personality, Xiaozhao waved his hand, "I’m just passing by."
"Oh."
Mirror took a bite of the jerky, her white teeth grinding the hard meat into fragments, swept him up and down with her calm lifeless eyes, once sure he couldn’t be eaten, turned back to her movie.
Inwardly, Xiaozhao sighed, what kinds of people were these.
Passing through a few compartments, he finally reached the last one, just entering, the scene before him took his breath away.
The overhead shadowless light array emitted evenly harsh white light, a three-meter-long streamlined operation platform floated ten centimeters above the ground, supported by an active electromagnetic field, and a tall figure lay atop it.
Long hair cascaded to the floor, across a strong chest was a huge gash, organs exposed, a pair of narrow eyes slightly squinted, hearing the watertight doors open, the figure slightly opened his eyes with a faint smile, "Xiaozhao has arrived."
"Train Conductor..."
Seeing Su Huan’s injuries, Xiaozhao’s throat tightened.
"Don’t just stand there; let the door close!" Director Xu commanded while configuring things on the operation platform.
Xiaozhao quickly stepped aside, allowing the double airlock doors to shut behind him.
"As I hypothesized, your flesh is no longer purely biological. Simply put, the way you intake and store energy has completely changed, no longer relying on phosphate systems, glycogen, or fat. The physiological structures based on these substances have also completely changed."
Director Xu, without acknowledging Xiaozhao, eagerly continued.
"As I predicted, Tier Four truly is the dividing line." Su Huan folded his chest, blood flowing back, flesh regrew. Under Xiaozhao’s watch, in just a few seconds the terrifying injury vanished, leaving no trace.
"This should be the change resulting from the fusion of your two professions, able to carry various forms of energy. Moreover, based on what you’ve said, the space in your body might be unique to you, and all of this is worth documenting and researching. Oh, have you named the fused ability?"
Director Xu turned around, speaking seriously.
Su Huan put on a shirt, contemplating, "Let’s call it the Court of All Things."
"Thunder?"
"Courtyard. Court as in courtyard."
"Use your body as a court, to reflect all things; you’ve finally come up with a fitting name." Director Xu nodded in satisfaction.
