"Except for anyone with the surname Wang, everyone else, put your hands on your head and squat down, don’t move!"

Zhang Su finished speaking, gestured to his companions beside him, and walked towards the people in front.

Dozens of combat personnel nearby immediately followed closely.

Thud, thud, thud...

The sound of boot soles hitting the ground reverberated rhythmically, as dozens of people, full of spirit and armed to the teeth, walked over. The survivors, who were in a miserable state, cooperated and squatted down with their hands on their heads.

Wang Guangjun couldn’t even process the information his son had given him. Amidst the haze, he saw a shadowy group drifting over, and when he saw his companions squatting down with their hands on their heads, he quickly followed suit, not forgetting to pull his unmoving son down.

"No, Dad, they said anyone with the surname Wang doesn’t need to... Oh!"

The young man appeared more robust than the old man, but his strength fell far short, and he was awkwardly pulled down to squat.

Seeing others with their heads down and his son looking troubled, Wang Guangjun quickly grabbed his arm and placed it on his head, hoarsely reprimanding, "Follow orders quickly, or you’ll suffer!"

"Old Wang, spoiled yogurt stinks, what’s there to suffer from?"

Zhang Su approached Wang Guangjun, his voice booming as he cracked a joke.

Wang Guangjun was the milk delivery man for the neighborhood. After the disaster struck, he managed to survive by drinking milk—starting with fresh milk, then switching to yogurt once the fresh milk spoiled, and still had some yogurt left when he left the neighborhood.

Zhang Su, Zheng Xinyu, and Zhong Xiaoshan all had their share of the yogurt, not for free of course, but in exchange for items like instant noodles and cigarettes given to Wang Guangjun.

Crouching on the ground with his head in his hands and not daring to look up, Wang Guangjun trembled upon hearing Zhang Su’s words. This was actually the first time he’d heard Zhang Su’s voice; he hadn’t caught anything when Zhang Su spoke through the megaphone.

The familiar voice seeped into his mind, and Wang Guangjun looked up at the man in front of him. His vision was a bit blurry, and he instinctively stood up.

"Oh my... this, woah..."

Tan Huajun finally clearly saw Wang Guangjun’s face, and the resolute woman couldn’t hold back, turning away to shed tears, sobbing sorrowfully.

Zhang Ya stood beside Tan Huajun. She didn’t know what had happened between Tan Huajun and Wang Guangjun, but understood that Tan Huajun needed comfort and a shoulder to lean on, and quickly embraced her, unsure how to console her, gently patting her back.

"Brother Zhang? Is it really you?"

Even after hearing the voice and seeing the face, Wang Guangjun still couldn’t believe what was in front of him.

"Yes, yes!"

Lu Yubo jumped in front of Wang Guangjun, excitedly waving his arms, loudly saying, "Uncle Wang, do you remember me? I’m Lu Yubo, do you remember me?"

Back at the gas station, Lu Yubo wanted to join Zhang Su, but Zhang Su was angry because Lu Yubo was reluctant to handle the situation with his turned companion. It was Wang Guangjun who mediated and convinced Zhang Su to take Lu Yubo in.

Lu Yubo felt grateful to Wang Guangjun but never thought about repaying him for anything. After all, unexpected events were frequent in the apocalypse; no one was sure they’d live to see tomorrow. But meeting again, seeing him in such a miserable state, made Lu Yubo feel a pang of sorrow.

"Lu Yubo..." Wang Guangjun looked seriously at the person in front of him, and his frightening face finally showed a smile, lifting one corner of his mouth: "It’s really you guys, Brother Zhang, and Xiaolu!"

"Dammit, Old Wang, you finally believe? Of course, it’s us. It’s not just the two of us; Old Tan is here too, you... you remember her, right?"

Zhang Su paused as he spoke, feeling a mix of emotions.

Back then, the time spent together was very short, but under the unique circumstances, Wang Guangjun and Tan Huajun had developed feelings for each other. Had Wang Guangjun not needed to go to the university to find his son, they surely would have supported each other moving forward.

Meeting again should have been a good thing, but unfortunately, Wang Guangjun had become unrecognizable. It’s not about disdain for his ugly appearance, but the sight was daunting, a haunting obstacle difficult to overcome.

Upon hearing Tan Huajun’s name, Wang Guangjun’s movable left cheek visibly twitched, and he immediately lowered his head, waving his hand repeatedly: "I remember, of course I do, but it’s better not to meet, I don’t dare see Sister Tan like this..."

The people around weren’t fools. Even without anyone disclosing information, linking clues together quickly assembled a story in their minds. Each version somewhat different, yet largely similar.

Everyone sighed with emotion, realizing that Sniper Sister Pang and this person had a previous emotional entanglement. It’s regretful that Wang Guangjun had connected with King Yama so early, yet didn’t travel together, or he wouldn’t have ended up in such a state.

People were curious why Wang Guangjun had parted ways with King Yama initially, but no one dared ask at the moment, max whispering inquiries privately. Yet only a handful knew the answer, and inquiries yield little.

"Brother Wang!"

Tan Huajun wasn’t deaf and heard clearly Wang Guangjun’s voice, especially since his hearing had worsened, causing him to speak louder. She released Zhang Ya’s shoulder, slowly walked in front of Wang Guangjun, with her steadfast rifle slung on her shoulder, yet her face showed deep sorrow.

"Brother Wang, it’s me, I’m Tan Huajun, what’s happened to you, what trouble have you encountered? Sob, sob..."

Tan Huajun was deeply upset.

After the apocalypse, she was stuck alone at the gas station, enduring lengthy suffering, waiting endlessly until survivors arrived, only for Zhang Su to appear fierce and Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan equally grumpy, leaving only Wang Guangjun showing kindness to her.
