Apocalypse Supermarket: My Four Overpowered Husbands Wontstop Hoarding

Chapter 96 I can’t leave!!

Chapter 96: Chapter 96 I can’t leave!!

It was as if the new development they had witnessed at the sea had planted a fresh kind of panic in their minds, one that none of them wanted to talk about anytime soon.

Luna watched them through the monitor as they stared at the sea with increasingly agitated expressions.

Perhaps the same question was running through all their minds, just as it was running through hers.

How the hell were they supposed to fight something they couldn’t even see?

The surface of the water rippled.

It almost looked as though another wave was approaching, but Luna knew it wasn’t a wave. There was something beneath the surface, something moving through the water with enough force to disturb the entire sea around it.

Kai immediately rushed toward the dining table and grabbed the jug of water sitting there, taking a long gulp.

He was trying to hide how anxious he was.

Unfortunately for him, Luna noticed.

Kai Blackwood was terrified.

And honestly, that was a good thing.

Someone who wasn’t afraid of death was a fool in Luna’s eyes. Fear kept people alive. It forced them to think twice before rushing into something they couldn’t understand.

Kai placed the jug down and quickly moved away, pretending everything was fine.

Luna almost smiled.

He wasn’t fooling anyone.

Kai wasn’t the only one showing signs of distress.

Rowan was sitting at the dining table, counting something silently on his fingers. Luna had known him long enough to recognize the habit. He always did that whenever he was nervous or trying to keep himself occupied.

She had also noticed that he had been distancing himself from her.

That was something Luna had been pretending not to care about.

Pretending was easier.

If she admitted that she cared, then she would have to ask him what was wrong.

And truthfully, she was dying to know.

Why was Rowan avoiding her?

What had she done?

Or had something happened inside his own head?

But with this new threat hanging over them, and the possibility that they wouldn’t even be able to leave the island anymore, Luna couldn’t bring herself to care about their little problem.

Not now.

Adrian was sitting farther away on one of the couches.

He leaned his head backward, exposing his neck as he stared toward the ceiling as if there were some invisible manual written up there that could explain what was happening.

His throat bobbed as he swallowed repeatedly.

Even his Adam’s apple was betraying him.

He was scared.

Luna looked around the room, taking in every one of their expressions.

Then her eyes landed on Ethan.

He looked completely unbothered.

Too unbothered.

Luna didn’t believe it for a second.

Ethan had been the first person to panic when the sea began retreating earlier. So why was he suddenly acting as though nothing was wrong?

And then there was Astrid.

The newest member of their group was pacing back and forth, one hand constantly clutching a necklace around his neck.

Luna hadn’t even noticed the necklace before.

His purple hair was still messy from everything that had happened, and every few seconds his fingers tightened around the pendant as though it were the only thing keeping him grounded.

Luna finally reached her conclusion.

All of them were terrified.

That was the only explanation.

"So you are all afraid?"

Her voice immediately made everyone glance at her.

"This is actually making all of you panic and walk around on your toes, isn’t it?"

She already knew the answer.

She just wanted them to admit it.

Kai was the first to respond.

"I don’t know anymore, for real."

He rubbed his face tiredly.

"I just want to sleep. I’m exhausted, and I believe we all are. Maybe this is just something our tired eyes imagined."

He pointed toward the monitor.

"I don’t want to think about the sea bringing another abomination toward us. The thought that the sea itself might have become some kind of monster is the worst possibility I can think of right now."

He grabbed the jug again and took another drink.

Then he walked past Miles, who was sitting nearby reading a newspaper as if the world wasn’t falling apart around him.

"I’m going to take a bath, and after that I’m sleeping. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day."

Kai paused.

"Although I can’t exactly say that with confidence. Every time we wake up, something is worse than the day before."

He glanced around the room before his eyes settled on Astrid.

"Come on, dude. Let’s go. I know you need a proper bath after what you went through out there."

Astrid hesitated before following him.

His purple hair was a complete mess. Dried blood had stained parts of it, and his clothes were torn and dirty from the battle.

The protective armor Luna had given him had already disappeared back into her space, leaving him looking even more miserable.

Kai wrinkled his nose.

"Don’t worry. I’ll lend you some clothes."

He sniffed the air around Astrid and grimaced.

"Jeez, you stink for real."

Astrid’s face immediately turned red.

"Thanks."

"You’re welcome."

The two of them left together.

Adrian watched them disappear before standing.

"I just need some time to think."

His voice was quieter now.

"I feel like my mind is collapsing from this reality we’re in. I just want to free myself from these shackles for a moment. I need some peace."

He waved at the others before walking away.

"Goodnight, everyone. I would’ve said sweet dreams, but in a disaster like this, we all know that’s impossible."

And just like that, the room became quieter.

There were now only four of them remaining.

Luna sat on the couch.

Rowan remained in his chair at the dining table.

Ethan stood in front of the monitor, watching the sea carefully and occasionally changing the camera angle, desperately trying to catch sight of whatever had caused those ripples.

But nothing appeared.

No creature.

No shadow.

Nothing.

Only the endless movement of the water.

"You three can go and rest."

Luna’s voice broke the silence.

"You don’t have to keep me company."

Rowan finally stopped counting his fingers and looked at her.

"So arrogant."

His tone was dry, but there was exhaustion beneath it.

"I don’t want to sleep because after what I saw, I don’t think I’ll be able to."

He leaned back in the chair.

"Forget the protection around this room. What if we’re lying safely in our beds and one of those things comes inside and snatches one of us away?"

His fingers started counting again.

"I can’t get that thought out of my head."

Luna didn’t respond immediately.

She understood.

They had built defenses to protect themselves from the creatures they could see.

But how did you prepare for something you couldn’t even identify?

Miles finally stopped reading.

He lowered the newspaper and looked toward the monitor.

"We’re prepared, Mrs. Luna."

His voice was calm, but the seriousness in it made the others listen.

"Probably more prepared than most people could ever hope to be. But what if we’re still lacking something?"

No one answered.

Miles continued.

"What are the chances that we’ll actually survive these horrors?"

His gaze remained fixed on the sea.

"Everything keeps getting worse. First, the creatures appeared. Then the dungeons. Now whatever is beneath that sea."

He swallowed.

"If we’re being honest with ourselves, humanity might eventually reach a point where this planet is no longer suitable for living."

The words settled heavily over the room.

"We might have to leave this world behind and find somewhere else to live."

Luna’s expression immediately changed.

Leaving Earth.

That was something she never wanted to accept.

Because to her, another planet wasn’t salvation.

It was a beautiful-looking trap.

A bait designed to lure desperate survivors away from the only place they still had a chance of surviving.

She wasn’t going anywhere.

Not again.

She had already died once.

She wasn’t going to walk willingly into another death.

"It’s okay to be afraid."

Miles looked toward her.

"I am afraid. Sir Rowan is afraid. The others are afraid too."

He gave her a tired smile.

"Miss Luna, perhaps we should all just rest."

That was enough.

Luna Hart stood.

She walked toward the monitor and switched it off.

The screen immediately went black.

A frozen smile appeared on her face, but it never reached her eyes.

"Goodnight, boys."

She stretched slightly.

"I think I’m feeling sleepy."

Then she looked directly at Miles.

"And Miles?"

"Yes, Mrs. Luna?"

"If you ever bring up leaving this planet again, I won’t hesitate to throw you into the sea myself so you can personally experiment on whatever the hell is happening down there."

Her smile remained.

"Don’t push me."

She turned around and walked toward her private room.

The door slammed shut behind her.

Silence filled the panic room.

Ethan, Rowan, and Miles all flinched.

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

Then Miles slowly turned toward the closed door.

"I know what that was."

Ethan raised an eyebrow.

Miles looked between the two men.

"Miss Luna is terrified too."

Rowan’s expression changed.

"Terrified?"

Miles nodded.

"If I’m not mistaken..."

His gaze moved toward the door.

"She isn’t afraid of the creatures."

He paused.

"I think she’s afraid of losing all of you."

Ethan’s jaw dropped.

He looked at Rowan.

Rowan looked completely speechless.

For once, even he didn’t have anything to say.

Because deep inside, he knew Miles might have just said something Luna would rather die than admit.
