The panel immediately began to emit a brilliant glow, its light spreading across the room as it scanned the males one after another.

Luna stood before them with her arms crossed, watching the system work.

"As I said, Miles and Astrid are both going to watch over the base. Defend it like it’s your last day on Earth. If things get too much and you realize you can’t handle whatever disaster comes your way, call us immediately. Don’t waste time trying to be heroes."

Her instruction was clear, and judging from the sharpness in her eyes, there was no room for argument.

They were going on this journey whether they liked it or not.

Rowan stood from where he had been sitting, his expression still carrying traces of concern.

"I just hope you won’t regret this decision."

Luna glanced at him.

"I won’t."

That simple response was enough to silence him.

The system continued its work.

Since it was providing them with specialized uniforms for the mission, the men stood in an orderly line according to their height, with Rowan being the tallest and Ethan standing just behind him.

Luna watched the glowing panel carefully.

The coins she was spending would eventually be replenished anyway. She had already learned that the more dangerous their circumstances became, the more opportunities she would have to acquire resources and earn coins.

She wasn’t going to go broke because of a few pieces of equipment.

Besides, if this mission succeeded, everything she spent would be worth it.

The glow surrounding the panel intensified.

A strange warmth suddenly spread through the bodies of the men being scanned.

Kai’s eyes widened.

"Whoa."

He moved his arms around, feeling the strange sensation running through his body.

Astrid and Miles remained behind in the sitting room, watching from their armchairs while the others received their equipment.

Then the light faded.

The clothing appeared.

Black material covered their bodies from their shoulders down to their legs. It looked almost like leather at first glance, but it was far thinner and lighter than ordinary armor.

Their chests and vital areas were protected, while their heads and necks remained uncovered.

Each outfit had a unique symbol embedded directly into the chest.

Rowan had the mark of the beast.

Ethan’s carried the symbol associated with his healing ability.

Adrian’s represented space and dimensional energy.

And Kai’s chest displayed an intricate pattern of ice crystals spreading outward like frozen branches.

The material looked heavy enough to be armor, but when they moved, it behaved nothing like armor.

There was no stiffness.

No unnecessary weight.

It moved with their bodies as if it were another layer of skin.

Kai immediately began turning from side to side, admiring himself.

"Hmm. Sweet. I can feel my whole body."

He stretched his arms, grinning like someone who had just walked into a luxury shopping mall instead of preparing to enter one of the most dangerous areas in the apocalypse.

Then his eyes dropped to the symbol on his chest.

"And this ice design is so damn hot."

Rowan’s eyelid twitched.

"Are you seriously admiring your clothes right now?"

Kai looked at him.

"What do you want me to do?"

"Focus."

"I am focused."

"You’re staring at your chest."

"Because it’s gorgeous!"

Rowan sighed deeply.

"You’re being distracted. Do you have any idea what we might encounter out there? I don’t think your excitement is helping matters."

Kai scoffed.

"So should I cry?"

Rowan stared at him.

"We’re going to raid a supermarket. What exactly am I supposed to behave like? Like the world is over?"

"It is over."

"Not completely."

"That’s not the point."

Kai waved him off.

"Oh, please. The outfit is gorgeous. At least let me admire it in peace. They’re my eyes, after all."

Ethan couldn’t hold himself back anymore and burst out laughing.

Kai pointed at him.

"See? At least someone appreciates me."

"My bad," Ethan said, still laughing. "I know this is serious. I just couldn’t take the silence anymore."

Rowan continued glaring at Kai.

Kai simply ignored him.

Luna tapped the panel again, completing the final adjustments to their equipment.

"Now, boys, these aren’t ordinary outfits."

Everyone’s attention immediately returned to her.

"These uniforms have different weapons and tools hidden within them. They can provide protection, enhance your movement, and give you access to certain emergency functions depending on your abilities."

She looked at each of them.

"I spent a fortune on these, and the system designed them according to your individual needs. So protect them. I don’t want anyone coming back here with their expensive equipment torn apart because they decided to act recklessly."

The men nodded.

Luna then looked down at herself.

Her own clothes shimmered.

The material covering her body slowly dissolved into particles before reforming.

Within seconds, her outfit transformed into a sleek black suit that hugged her body without restricting her movement. The material connected from her upper body down to her legs, ending in a pair of sturdy black boots.

She looked like she belonged in the apocalypse.

Beautiful.

Dangerous.

And completely prepared to kick someone’s ass.

Kai whistled.

"Okay. That’s unfair."

Luna raised a brow.

"What?"

"You get the best outfit."

"I designed the equipment."

"Exactly. Cheater."

Luna rolled her eyes.

"Now, I think we’re ready. Take your bags and put in anything special you think you’ll need. Obviously, most of what you’re carrying will become indirectly useless because I have my space, but I want everyone to fulfill all righteousness and carry something."

The men dispersed immediately.

Each went in a different direction to gather whatever personal equipment they believed might help.

Luna picked up her own handbag.

It was deliberately plain.

In fact, it looked almost like an old, worn-out bag that someone could mistake for something meant to be thrown away.

That was exactly what she wanted.

The less attention it attracted, the better.

She hung it over her shoulder and looked around the room before heading upstairs to check a few final things.

Meanwhile, Kai remained behind with Astrid.

The latter clearly wasn’t happy about him leaving.

Astrid lowered his head.

"You’re the only person here I actually feel close to."

Kai’s expression softened.

"The others have helped me, but I can’t stop feeling like they secretly judge me. Like they blame me for the base being discovered. They probably hate me."

"Kinda dramatic."

Astrid ignored him.

"With you, it’s different. That’s why I want to go with you. I don’t want to stay here while everyone else leaves. I’ll feel useless."

Kai sighed.

"Listen to me."

He placed a hand on Astrid’s shoulder.

"I’m the Ice Tyrant. I’ll be fine."

Astrid looked at him.

"With my powers, the others beside me, and Luna leading us, I’m not going to be helpless."

"But—"

"And you have the most important job."

"Protecting the base?"

"Exactly."

Kai smiled.

"That’s not useless. If anything happens while we’re gone, you’re one of the people standing between this place and whatever comes looking for us."

Astrid still didn’t look convinced.

"What about you?"

Kai blinked.

"What about me?"

"Someone needs to be beside you."

Astrid lowered his voice.

"I don’t completely trust Luna."

Kai’s smile faded slightly.

"I don’t trust her blindly either."

Astrid’s eyes widened.

"But I trust her enough."

He looked toward the staircase.

"We’ve done this before. We’ve gone into dangerous places with Luna, and no matter how crazy she can be, she’s never deliberately put us in danger."

Astrid remained silent.

Kai continued.

"She may be selfish. She may be bossy. She may have enough attitude to drive everyone insane."

"Exactly."

"But she’s also the reason we’re alive."

That silenced Astrid.

Kai’s voice softened.

"And I’m not going to spend the rest of my life hiding because the world is scary. If I die someday, I want to know I actually lived before then."

Astrid looked down.

"Just come back."

Kai smiled.

"I will."

"Don’t compromise your safety for anything. No matter what happens, run."

Kai laughed.

"Look who’s giving me orders now."

But Astrid didn’t laugh.

"I’m serious."

"I know."

Astrid finally turned around to leave.

However, Kai’s eyes suddenly caught something.

A red mark.

Right at the back of Astrid’s neck.

It wasn’t huge, but it wasn’t tiny either. It looked fresh, almost as though the wound had recently reopened.

Kai’s smile disappeared.

"Wait."

Astrid stopped.

"Did your scar reopen?"

His hand immediately went to the back of his neck.

For a second, Kai saw the nervousness flash across his face.

Then Astrid pulled his hand away from the wound.

"It’s nothing."

"That’s not what I asked."

But Astrid had already started walking away.

"Astrid."

He didn’t turn.

Kai narrowed his eyes.

Something wasn’t right.

That mark hadn’t looked like an ordinary scar.

It looked almost like the puncture wound he had noticed earlier.

Before Kai could follow him, footsteps came from the staircase.

He turned.

Luna was coming down.

And this time, she looked completely different.

Her black survival suit fitted perfectly against her body, the sturdy boots making each step sound deliberate against the floor. Her raven hair was tied back, leaving her sharp features exposed.

She looked less like someone going on a supply raid and more like someone about to conquer an entire battlefield.

Kai stared.

"Damn."

Luna stopped.

"What?"

"Nothing."

She narrowed her eyes.

"Good."

She looked around the room and immediately spotted Adrian.

"Adrian."

He turned.

"Yeah?"

"Time for the portal."

Adrian nodded and stepped forward.

Luna then looked toward Miles.

"And Miles, remember my instructions."

Miles raised his hand lazily.

"I heard you."

"Good."

Her gaze shifted toward Astrid.

For a brief moment, she noticed him standing farther away.

He was unusually quiet.

Luna didn’t comment.

She simply turned back toward Adrian.

"Let’s go."

Adrian lifted his hand.

Space immediately began to distort before them.

A faint ripple appeared in the air, spreading outward like a crack through invisible glass.

The temperature inside the room shifted.

Everyone became silent.

Kai’s playful expression disappeared.

Rowan straightened.

Ethan adjusted his gloves.

Luna tightened her grip on her bag.

The portal expanded.

Beyond it was darkness.

Not the darkness of night.

Something deeper.

A passage between dimensions.

Adrian’s eyes glowed faintly as he maintained the opening.

"Portal is stable."

Luna nodded.

"Everyone ready?"

One by one, they stepped forward.

Rowan.

Ethan.

Kai.

Adrian.

Finally, Luna.

She paused for one second and looked back at the mansion.

Astrid and Miles remained behind.

This was their home.

Their safe zone.

Their last place of retreat.

Luna’s eyes hardened.

"Don’t let anything happen to this place."

Miles gave her a lazy salute.

Astrid simply nodded.

Then Luna stepped through.

The portal swallowed them.

And in the next second, the mansion became strangely quiet.
