From the Captain Benefits alone, Fiora could barely perceive any improvement, even more so because she preferred fighting alone and listening to Max’s commands.
Meanwhile, if Hector received the HP and Defense benefits, coupled with the increased Command Range and Formation Discipline, he would definitely receive a distinct power-up.
Although the Attack Power might be somewhat useless for Hector, he was, at the very least, the most suited among the Warriors to become their captain.
Unfortunately, Hector declined.
When Max considered Helena, Darius suddenly refuted the idea and challenged Helena to a duel, which provoked the latter.
Max felt a headache coming on and eventually had to seek the opinions of the other Radiant Knights.
The new Warrior Radiant Knights wanted to support Fiora’s suggestion, and since Jeremiah himself supported it, even going as far as promising to train Hector himself to become a captain—not only for the Warrior Corps, but for the entire formation focused on defense—Max finally forced Jeremiah to become the second captain.
The third captain, representing the Rangers, was Damien, primarily because he acted more like a scout.
At the same time, Damien slowly formed a reconnaissance team consisting mostly of Rangers and Warriors.
The last captain was Sebastian.
His formation team was focused more on powerful long-range attacks, such as Rangers and Mages.
A primary ranged destruction formation.
Max was slowly forming his own legion as well, with his captains leading some of the forces under his command.
For Max, he was just getting started.
His class as a Radiant Commander was still clearly lacking.
As much as Max loved to grind, however, this was not the time for him to continue doing so.
It was currently September 4, 2028, and Max was exercising on his terrace.
At this moment, he was surprised when his enhanced senses picked up the presence of someone observing him from afar.
Judging by the position and direction of the stalker, it was not a simple paparazzo at all.
Is the FBI investigating me again?
Max silently frowned.
Suddenly, an idea shook him.
Don’t tell me the Neuromuscular Combat System is already being created?
If the Neuromuscular Combat System had begun to be created early in this timeline and they connected it to Max’s training, the FBI would definitely begin to grow suspicious.
While Max pondered the possibility of being discovered, he slowly calculated the chances of the FBI assuming that he was one of the creators behind the game.
Even when the apocalypse descended, the FBI had still failed to discover the perpetrator behind the game.
He wasn’t aware of how desperate they had become, since he had merely been an ordinary player in his past life.
As Max finished his training and exercises, he entered his room and cooled down in his bathroom.
He closed his eyes and emptied his mind.
Eventually, he reached a conclusion that calmed him down somewhat.
I’d rather believe that the FBI will think that I came from the past rather than being the reason behind the appearance of Apocalypse Online.
If they question me through a lie detector test, I could still lie straight to their faces due to my extreme control over my body.
Max took a shower to fully erase his worries about the FBI’s movements against him and soon dived into the game.
Coincidentally, Matilda had just knocked on the door to his office in the Guild.
He was currently residing in the Guild to oversee the war taking place across different provinces between his Demon Hunters Guild and the demons’ invasion.
Matilda walked toward him with a solemn expression, causing Max to immediately understand the gravity of what she was about to report.
"A Greater Demon appeared and came to deliver a message."
Matilda coughed before speaking in a masculine voice.
"The Demon Lord of Wrath is angry at the death of his student, his Commander.
In a week’s time, the Demon Lord of Wrath’s forces will soon arrive.
The human behind Commander Varkhaz’s death must be present.
If any of the Demon Lord of Wrath’s forces kill him, only then will his forces allow the humans to survive for decades."
Max couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows.
He truly believed that Varkhaz had operated according to his own choices, given that he had actively attacked the Empire’s territory, when demons usually would not.
Unless they were rogue demons similar to Malveris.
The Demon Lord of Wrath’s mentor... Varkhaz as his student...
Is Varkhaz the type of student who doesn’t follow his mentor and makes his own decisions?
Max shrugged.
He glanced at Matilda and said, "Have every one of our members retreat."
"Spread the news throughout the Guild."
"We will be preparing for war."
Matilda nodded solemnly.
She bowed and departed without saying a word.
She would first inform Danny before they spread the news of the Guild going to war against a Demon Lord from the Kingdom of Endless War.
Max was left alone in his office, placing his hand on the table while tapping the surface with his index finger.
He was deep in thought.
Demon Lord of Wrath.
To become a Demon Lord recognized by the Demon Sovereign meant that it was not only their class that lived up to their name, but their title as well.
A Demon Lord could rule an entire province, and at the same time, his captains could be as strong as a Demon Lord themselves.
Early Demon Lords would serve a peak Demon Lord. Simple as that.
Furthermore, there are many Demon Lords under the Demon Sovereign—almost thrice the number of the Empire’s provinces.
Max’s eyes flashed with a cold glint.
In other words, my war against the demons will begin in a week’s time.
It will last until the apocalypse descends.
