Apocalypse Online: Regression of SSS-Class Summoner
Chapter 148: Adaptive Combat Courtyard
Max said, "Thank you for clearing my doubts. The reason I asked is I want my training courtyard to be enhanced."
The Commander was stunned. "It does not suffice."
"It doesn’t." After contemplating for a while, he finally decided to inform the Commander. "You see, I’m a Summoner Class that could summon divine constructs, such as divine knights.
I want my training courtyard to train my radiant knights.
What class of enchanter do you recommend?"
The Commander was silent for a while.
Max wasn’t surprised. He merely smiled.
He finally revealed it to the Commander, knowing that it would only be a matter of time before his SSS-Class would be revealed anyway.
After a while, the Commander finally replied, "I have never thought you would inherit the same class as the First Emperor.
The Empire will rely on you henceforth, Max!"
His tone was filled with enthusiasm.
Max merely smiled, not replying.
The Commander said, "As for your request, thankfully, Louie can accommodate your request. He personally designed the adaptive combat courtyard used by Mirefall’s Provincial Military Academy.
I’m talking about our only Grand Artificer in our province, by the way."
Max was confused. "A Grand Artificer for a mere courtyard? What’s with the adaptive combat courtyard?"
The Commander chuckled.
"Just because Grand Artificer possessed grandiose blueprint doesn’t mean they were degraded just by creating a courtyard.
Don’t treat the adaptive combat courtyard lightly either. It was the one of the advanced courtyard produced by him."
"So, how is adaptive combat courtyard any different than other training courtyard?"
"It’s like a difference between a common rank equipment to a legendary rank equipment." The Commander chuckled. "The adaptive combat courtyard was an advanced magical training facility designed to cultivate every major combat profession recognized by the Empire. By combining runic engineering, autonomous constructs, environmental simulation, artificial mana systems, and combat analysis arrays into a single integrated installation, it provided trainees, like your radiant knights, with realistic, adaptive, and repeatable combat exercises regardless of their chosen class.
Unlike conventional training grounds, the courtyard continuously analyzed a trainee’s performance and altered its environment, opponents, and magical conditions to maximize learning efficiency while maintaining a controlled level of safety.
Every Imperial military academy, provincial fortress, and major border garrison considered an Adaptive Combat Courtyard one of its most valuable strategic assets.
It is Louie’s masterpiece.
Although, Individually, these technologies already existed within the Empire. Louie’s genius lay in harmonizing them into a living training ecosystem capable of adapting to every profession and every stage of a soldier’s development.
For this reason, an Adaptive Combat Courtyard was more than a training ground—it was regarded as one of the Empire’s greatest investments in the future of its military, capable of preparing Warriors, Rangers, Mages, and Support classes alike for the countless battlefields they would one day face."
Listening to the Commander’s description of the adaptive combat courtyard reminded Max of a simulation training.
His eyes sparkled.
"Can I request for my training courtyard to be altered to that description you have just said."
The Commander laughed. "Of course. You are a special Imperial Commission Officers, so Louie will definitely consider it. Also, it should not be request, it should be "commission."
Not everything’s free, Max. Since you are asking for a Grand Artificer’s masterpiece, it’s definitely not a small amount."
Max’s heart skipped a beat. He could not afford to spend an astronomical figure at the moment.
He had already decided to spend all his gold coins for auctioning.
Still, Max asked, "How much?"
The Commander fell silent, seemingly trying to remember something.
"The total cost, including the commission fee, paid by the Imperial Family is 400 Gold Coins."
Max drew a cold breath. What he thought a thick wallet he had was nothing compared to what he had just heard.
The Commander laughed. "This is a normal reaction. The Imperial Family paid with the money from the people, so they could easily spend that much. Of course, it is worth an investment to improve our military strength.
Anyway, given by your reaction, it’s normal you can’t afford that amount of money.
It’s best to write a letter to the Imperial Family and explained your circumstances.
There’s a high chance they will cover the cost in your stead.
After all, you inherited the legacy class of the First Emperor.
You know, from the start, you should have just tell them about this. You might be rewarded with what you had received."
Max was silent for a while before replying, "I’m just worried how they will react."
"No." The Commander sighed. "Don’t antagonize the Imperial Family. Even when the emperors constantly changed, nothing will change the fact that they are adamant to drive the demons and expand the human territory.
The current Emperor, as far as I remember from my interaction with him, inherited the values of the Crown.
Although I can’t assure you how they will react, it certainly won’t be negative, given that another future Emperor level individual appeared to fight against the demons."
Max was silent for a while.
He finally replied, "I will write a letter and please help me deliver it on my stead."
The Commander nodded. "It’s best to do it now. We will have to wait for the Imperial Family’s response before disturbing Louie."
Max nodded. "Yes. Consider it done in half an hour."
"It’s fine. I can still manage my workload today, so I can wait."
"Thanks."
"Anything else?"
Max was silent for a while.
Should I tell him the matter of the strange statue’s behavior when I touch it?
He shook his head.
It’s best to inquire the Church about this rather than him.
He finally replied, "That will be all. I will call you back once I’m finished."
The Commander nodded. "Alright. Make it convincing and pitiful."
Max shrugged. "I thought just letting them know of my circumstances and the legacy-class should suffice?"
"I was just joking."
Max then ended the call. Since he was at his private office, an empty letter and quill was already ready for him to use.
Without hesitation, he wrote a letter to the Imperial Family, explaining his circumstances and the need of their assistance...
