Chapter 506: Chapter 243: Interrogating Jiang Yun’er, Double Agent, Confession

While he was in the middle of his Upgrade, Lin Feng had Ling Yi wake the unconscious Jiang Yun’er.

Under the silent, moonlit, and starry sky, the three of them sat around a crackling campfire.

Behind Lin Feng, the Reproductive Armor Mecha entered Sentinel Mode, activating its automated guard protocols.

The leaping flames cast dancing shadows and scattered sparks, illuminating their faces.

Jiang Yun’er coughed up a mouthful of dark blood and slowly opened her eyes. Seeing a man and a woman staring intently at her, she couldn’t help but feel her skin crawl.

In her mind, the scene was utterly bizarre.

The man on her left was a human Tier Three Awakener, yet he was sitting peacefully with the woman on her right—someone who, by all appearances, had to be a disguised Mother Empress Avatar.

Either Lin Feng had given up on humanity and thrown in his lot with the Zerg Race, just as she had, or...

The alternative was something Jiang Yun’er found far harder to accept.

Lin Feng poured some Organic Nutrient Liquid into a Tuna Can heating over the campfire, then flipped it to cook the other side. He watched the dazed Jiang Yun’er and began to speak slowly.

"We’ve rescued most of the survivors in the city."

"Your so-called sacrificial ritual no longer has enough Biomass to be activated."

Jiang Yun’er froze, her face twisting into an expression of disbelief as she retorted:

"Impossible. There are over three million survivors. Even if you opened all the gates to the Northwest, they would still have to get past three high-walled defensive lines..."

"How could you possibly have enough time in just half a day?!"

Lin Feng nodded.

"The Northwest route would have taken too long, so I opened up another path."

"Oh, and I forgot to mention..."

"I cleared the southern front. So I didn’t sneak into the Capital City. I fought my way in, literally."

As he spoke, Lin Feng pointed behind Jiang Yun’er at two enormous Golden Plate Bones. The purple Mother Empress Brain Marrow encased within them still faintly pulsed with powerful Spiritual Energy Waves.

The moment she saw them, the color drained from Jiang Yun’er’s face. As a Genetic Mother, the Mother Empress Cells surging within her were screaming their highest warning.

Empowered by her Genetic Control Realm, she understood the biological structure of a Mother Empress better than anyone—save for a Zerg Race Mother Empress herself.

The Mother Empress Brain Marrow is the source of a High-tier Mother Empress’s Spirit and Realm Power; it is her most vital organ.

As long as the marrow remains intact, a new High-tier Mother Empress can be hatched from it within a Biological Nest.

Yet now, this critically important organ was right in front of her. And it wasn’t just one...

There were two of them, one to her left and one to her right!

Judging by the fresh blood and scraps of brain tissue still clinging to the surface of the Golden Plate Bones, they must have been harvested from High-tier Mother Empresses just moments ago.

In other words...

After leaving the Capital City this afternoon, Lin Feng had managed to slay two High-tier Mother Empresses in a single go!

That level of power was enough to rival a Tier Three Middle Stage expert!

He was even more of a threat than a typical Tier Three Mid-stage Mother Empress.

Much more.

Jiang Yun’er felt her breath catch in her throat. It was as if the hybrid cells in her body sensed a mortal threat, coiling in on themselves as the hair on her arms stood on end and her scalp tingled with fear.

When she turned to look at Lin Feng again, it was like seeing her natural predator. Her limbs went limp and powerless, her legs trembling uncontrollably.

A slight smile touched Lin Feng’s lips. Seeing her reaction, a flash of pity crossed his eyes before he continued.

"Qin Hu led the Southern Corps to rescue most of the survivors. They also surrounded the Mother Empresses on the southern front. I killed three of them. The last two, a big one and a small one, fled underground."

"Your plan has failed."

"But after losing you, that group of high-level traitors in the city will just find another Genetic Mother."

"You’re not special, and you’re not their only agent. They created you simply because they wanted a messenger, someone who could communicate with the Zerg Race."

"Everything was arranged from the very beginning."

"And all this time, you’ve been lost in the sweet dream they spun for you—the dream of becoming a Mother Empress..."

Finished speaking, Lin Feng glanced at Ling Yi.

Ling Yi stared at Jiang Yun’er with a wry smile, her voice laced with mockery as she began to speak.

"All Mother Empresses are direct descendants of the Zerg God. No outsider has ever become one of them through Genetic Fusion..."

"That sacrificial ritual you mentioned is just the process for a Tier Three Mid-stage Mother Empress to advance. In the eyes of the Mother of Life, you’re nothing but a half-breed Zerg genetic mongrel. Why would she ever personally intervene to transform you into a true Mother Empress?"

"Remember, no matter how much you replace your flesh and blood, a soul cannot be transformed. Your human Attributes are too deep-rooted. It’s like how a warrior who fuses with the genes of Spine Zergs can never become a true Spine Zerg."

"Housing two completely different consciousnesses will only tear your soul to shreds and warp your sanity..."

"Just look at yourself now, always uncontrollably wanting to manipulate and convert others."

"Your own consciousness is completely unable to control this Power that was never yours to begin with. Sooner or later, you will lose your mind and become nothing more than a Slave to Realm Power."

Jiang Yun’er looked dazed. As shocking as Lin Feng’s news about the failed ritual was, Ling Yi’s words were on another level entirely. It was like her entire worldview was being shattered. Every sentence dismantled her beliefs; every word was a knife to the heart.

After a moment of stunned silence, she came to her senses, desperate to prove herself right. She argued indignantly,

"No! The Tier Three Mid-stage Mother Empress to the east already promised me! She said that as long as I completed the sacrificial ritual, she had a way for me to advance to Tier Three!"

"Even if I can’t become a pure Zerg Race Mother Empress, as long as I reach Tier Three, I can still become one of the Zerg God’s Apostles! I can become the Divine Sect Leader who will save all of humanity..."
