Chapter 436: Chapter 219: Forbidden Spell of Life, Parting Arrangements, Heading North

Through its temporal-spatial tracing, he learned of He Yiwen’s past and her whereabouts.

He Yiwen had once reached the level of a Half-Step Tier Four, her Spiritual Attribute Value most likely having broken its limit to surpass ten thousand.

’My Mental Realm, along with the images and sounds in my Spirit World, must have been left behind from that time.’

The power of a Tier Four Cosmic Life was enough to influence the bloodline and genes of its descendants. Coupled with He Yiwen’s prodigious talent, it was no surprise she could leave Lin Feng such a gift.

In fact, Lin Feng strongly suspected that the Upgrade System he had unexpectedly obtained at the very start of the apocalypse was another contingency his mother, He Yiwen, had left behind.

A plan to ensure he could not only survive but also save humanity.

His father, Lin Yu, on the other hand, had always been an ordinary office worker who spent the most time with him. He didn’t seem like some powerful expert with a profound background.

’Perhaps he was silently supporting his wife, helping her complete her research and evolution.’

Now, with one confirmed dead and the other’s whereabouts still unknown, trying to learn the secrets of his own origins from them was harder than reaching for the heavens.

And so, Lin Feng and Ling Yi’s conversation about his origins and Superpower came to an end due to their disagreement...

An hour later, Lin Feng finished modifying and optimizing over forty Tiger-toothed Chainsaw Swords, successfully producing a batch of orange-rarity Close Combat Weapons, all Lv. 24 or higher.

This batch of weapons would be issued to the Middle and Late Stage warriors within the Tier Two Battle Group, giving them a suppressive edge against the Samurai Hunter Zergs.

This would ensure that even after the top-tier combatants departed to provide reinforcements up north, the base could maintain its deterrent force against the surrounding Zerg Race and that the operations to hunt Zergs for evolution could proceed as usual.

The break Lin Feng had given his team members was only three or four days. Although there wouldn’t be another large-scale engagement like the decisive battle for Wu City, their routine Zerg-hunting training and opportunistic hunts for Tier Two Zerg Race had to continue as scheduled.

Otherwise, a break of more than half a month would mean they couldn’t keep pace with the Zerg Race’s growing power, and their overall Levels would gradually fall behind.

And falling behind meant being eliminated from the game of survival.

They would share the same fate as the Hai City Mother Empress.

Therefore, even in Lin Feng’s absence, Jin City Base had to continue to grow and strengthen itself, constantly improving its power.

Having sorted out the new batch of close combat weapons, Lin Feng drove back to the pier, accompanied by Ling Yi and a truck loaded with the Tiger-toothed Chainsaw Swords.

By now, the handover of goods between the various factions and the base had reached its busiest and most spectacular stage.

The entire pier was bustling with activity. Swarms of shipping containers and wooden crates were being lifted by cranes, set down on the docks, and then ferried by forklifts into massive warehouses.

On the base’s side, Betty and Han Yuxin were directing the visiting War Corps, leading several thousand Support Soldiers to transport the more than 20,000 Black Spine Living Zergs from the train station plaza to the port.

After personnel from both sides tallied and verified the counts, the exchange was made.

They were loaded, batch by batch, into the empty cargo holds of the ships.

Each thousand-ton cargo ship was loaded with two hundred Black Spine Living Zergs, a number that fit perfectly in its hold.

Accompanying the fleet were trusted guards sent by the various factions to protect their cargo. Most had an Awakening Level in the Tier One Middle and Late Stages, but many of the larger factions had also sent Tier Two Awakeners.

Take the Federation’s high command, for instance. They acquired nearly five thousand Black Spine Living Zergs and over ten Tier Two Zerg Eggs. As the former official government, even though their power had been weakened by regional factions who followed orders but refused to publicly submit...

...a starved camel is still bigger than a horse.

They were not only wealthy and influential, but their intrinsic strength was also the most formidable. They were simply bogged down by the defense of the Capital, with their top-tier combatants trapped in the quagmire of an encirclement.

Yet even so, they had still dispatched as many as ten Tier Two Awakeners—a force that the other factions present could only hope to match by combining their own.

So, while everyone was green with envy over the lion’s share taken by the Federation’s high command, they had the ambition but lacked the nerve to do anything about it.

In stark contrast was another faction, the Steel United Group.

In this post-apocalyptic world, they controlled the most vital resources but lacked the high-end combat power to match.

The Steel United Group had sent several large ships this time, but their security detail, both in terms of numbers and individual strength, was several tiers weaker than that of the Federation’s high command.

Even the other large factions formed from the remnants of the Original State Guard were more formidable than Steel United.

They, at least, could deploy a hundred or so Awakeners, along with one or two Tier Two Awakeners to take command.

Steel United, however, only had a meager eighty ordinary Awakeners, most of whom were only at the Tier One Early Stage.

As group after group of bound Black Spine Living Zergs were hoisted by crane into Steel United’s massive freighter, the eyes of the nearby faction members lit up.

The greed and desire in their gazes were completely undisguised.

They clearly had no respect for the Steel United Group.

More than the ordinary Awakeners on the ship, they were wary of their surroundings, watching for potential rivals who shared their intentions.

The ships from the Steel United Group were the last to arrive, docking close to noon as the sun blazed like a furnace.

Meanwhile, the other factions’ freighters, now fully loaded, had already departed the pier under the port administrator’s direction. However, in a tacit, unspoken agreement, they all slowed their speed.

They lingered with unspoken intent near the several cross-river bridges along the route, or ducked into hidden coves and harbors along the river channel, concealing themselves...

...quietly waiting for their prey to be delivered.

Back at the Riverfront Pier, the freighter, now filled with its living cargo, was preparing to depart. The Steel United Group’s executive secretary, Zhang Zihan, was finalizing the handover with Han Yuxin and the others.
