Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts
Chapter 1351 - 303: Yanjing’s Prestige (Part 1)
Wen Yu shifted his gaze to Dragon Two.
This man’s military uniform was a gray-green color, standing close to two meters tall, with a tall and broad stature, but with well-defined features and a simple honest look, giving an impression of loyalty and reliability.
As Li Quan’an’s introduction concluded, Dragon Two immediately stood at attention and saluted Wen Yu.
"Vice Captain of the Supreme Commander’s Praetorian Guards, Dragon Two, reporting to the Commander!"
The dignified attitude left Wen Yu with no room for criticism, but he keenly sensed the sadness reflected in Dragon Two’s eyes.
He had been a Praetorian Guard of Lin Haifeng’s since before the apocalypse, staying by his side for decades, but when the plan commenced, Lin Haifeng had sent Dragon Two to the front lines—and Dragon Two’s feelings over Lin Haifeng’s demise could easily be imagined.
Even more pathetic, within just three months, Dragon Two had already switched "masters" twice—certainly, the same scene occurred during Fang Yuqiong’s inauguration.
To a Praetorian Guards Captain, it was an insult that even though his superior was gone, he continued to serve as another’s Praetorian Guards Captain...
This was an insult!
Wen Yu could understand Dragon Two’s feelings. If Dragon Two had actively requested to resign from the vice-captain position, Wen Yu would have agreed—Wen Yu didn’t particularly need a Praetorian Guard, but unexpectedly, Dragon Two stood aside without uttering a word.
It wasn’t until Li Quan’an offered an explanation.
"My Lord, this guy is not quite reassured by me."
"Oh?"
Wen Yu raised his eyebrows and looked at Dragon Two, until Dragon Two stepped forward and loudly spoke to Wen Yu.
"Reporting, Sir, appointing a Cannibal as the Praetorian Guards Captain was inherently unwise; for those of high rank, personal safety should be prioritized. I request, Sir, to revoke Li Quan’an’s position as the Praetorian Guards Captain."
Wen Yu couldn’t help but laugh, and Li Quan’an’s face was also filled with helplessness. Dragon Two was not wrong, seemingly holding on half because of Li Quan’an.
Indeed, he was an honest person.
Wen Yu shook his head with a smile, dismissing the matter, then issued new orders to the two.
"How about this, Li Quan’an will continue to lead the Cannibals, as for Dragon Two, the non-Cannibal Praetorian Guards will still be handed to you, and the defense of this mansion will be handled by you, Dragon Two."
"Yes, Sir."
Seeing his proposal fruitless, Dragon Two didn’t persist. He simply saluted Wen Yu and then retreated behind Li Quan’an.
Decades of military life had long infused certain things into Dragon Two’s bones.
"Now, let me see exactly what Lin Haifeng left behind."
Wen Yu rubbed his hands as he signaled for Li Quan’an and Dragon Two to bring over Yanjing’s confidential documents, personnel files, and the like. Wen Yu intended to carefully inventory how much Lin Haifeng had truly left him!
...
Li Quan’an and Dragon Two returned less than ten minutes later.
The two stood in front of Wen Yu, vigorously rummaging through their space rings. Before long, various documents were piled up on the coffee table in front of Wen Yu.
Yanjing’s confidential files weren’t merely these, but Li Quan’an, being shrewd, understood what precisely Wen Yu wanted to see, so this small selection was all he brought.
Wen Yu raised his hand to pick up a document from the table, titled "Yanjing Basic Resources Inventory".
It was an account book. Wen Yu glanced through a few pages and compared it with his assets, only to be surprised to find that Yanjing’s existing supplies were indeed significantly more than his own by about five times.
Magic crystals, food, war weapons, various building materials, consumables.
What Wen Yu had, or rather what Mountain Kui had accumulated at the tiered battleground’s main city, all existed in Yanjing, with many items being things Wen Yu hadn’t prepared.
"Not bad."
Wen Yu commented with a smile.
These items formed the basic strategic reserves, which weren’t needed under normal circumstances but could indeed be lifesaving in emergencies.
After reading this, Wen Yu handed the account book to Li Quan’an and then took out another report.
"Supreme Commander’s Praetorian Guards Name Register".
Captain: Li Quan’an—Level 8 Breakthrough Achiever, Cannibal, Sequence-class.
Vice-Captain: Dragon Two—Level 8 Breakthrough Achiever, Sequence-class.
Cannibals Squad: 108 members, all Level 8 Breakthrough Achievers.
First Squad (Former Hidden Guard): 33 members, five Sequence-class, the rest Level 8 Breakthrough Achievers.
Second Squad (Former Government Sentinels): 321 members, one Sequence-class, 100 Level 8 Breakthrough Achievers, the rest Peak Level 8.
Third Squad...
Just Wen Yu’s Praetorian Guards total nearly 1000 people, besides Yanjing’s mansion, Yanjing’s office, and the tiered battleground’s mansion and office, all these are covered by the Praetorian Guards’ defense. Out of these nearly 1000 individuals, a third are Breakthrough Achievers, and the rest are elite soldiers at Peak Level 8, with each Hidden Guard member possessing a strong skill system or special methods.
The Supreme Commander’s Praetorian Guards alone have nearly twenty Sequence-class experts!
However, these people, in Wen Yu’s hands, might just serve as a guard of honor...
After briefly reviewing this, Wen Yu picked up a book that listed all of Yanjing’s Limit Breakthrough Level experts.
Simply looking at the directory, as thick as the New Chinese Dictionary, Wen Yu lost the desire to continue—Yanjing’s top-tier combat prowess was indeed unparalleled in the world!
From now on, all of these would be under Wen Yu’s command!
...
Wen Yu continued reading for a long time, briefly examining Yanjing’s overall economic strength, military power, technology tree level, military structure, and administrative setup, then nodded in satisfaction, as he returned most documents to Li Quan’an and Dragon Two, only keeping two sets of files in front of him.
"Complete Collection of Yanjing Secret Treasure Trove".
"Overview of Yanjing’s Strategic Weapons".
Matters like Yanjing’s administrative organization and military structure did not intrigue Wen Yu much. He only skimmed through them to avoid any mishaps in public settings in the future.
The two files remaining with Wen Yu were what he considered most valuable.
He pondered for a moment, then dismissed Li Quan’an and Dragon Two. Once the room contained only himself, Wen Yu opened the documents and began reading word by word.
First was the "Complete Collection of Yanjing Secret Treasure Trove".
Stream Sword (Soul-Armored), Imprint, Flowing Fire, Flying Fish Sting...
Darkness Interval (Species-specific Esoteric Level, Active Skills), Cloud Light (Species-specific Esoteric Level, Active Skills), Death Judgement (Species-specific Esoteric Level, Active Skills), Nameless Sword Mark (Species-specific Esoteric Level, Active Skills)...
Knight’s Oath (Species-specific Esoteric Level item), National-Level Shield Generator (Species-specific Esoteric Level item), Continental Shelf Quake Inducer (Species-specific Esoteric Level item), Death Star Guard Battleship (Species-specific Esoteric Level item)...
A variety of items from weapons to skills to all sorts of artifacts, dazzled Wen Yu’s eyes!
