Chapter 368: Chapter 368: Daily Life

Frost Shaw was speechless. ’That guy is such a tattletale!’ And Lily Hart just had to fall for his act every time.

Unbelievable!

"Alright, alright, alright!" Frost Shaw grabbed Roman Rowe’s wrist and pushed him down onto the sofa. "Boss Hart just came to get some snacks."

To sell his story, Frost Shaw even pointed to a shopping basket by the sofa, which was filled to the brim with snacks.

Roman Rowe took a look and saw it was true. He reached out and rummaged through the basket, silently taking note of its contents.

"Hmph!" Even though he knew the truth now, Roman Rowe still had to huff.

’What was there to hide? Why be so secretive about it? It just makes everyone else curious!’

"What are you two... doing?" Lily Hart’s voice suddenly cut in, startling Roman Rowe so much that he leaped up from the sofa.

Roman Rowe was terrified. "Bo-Bo-Bo, Boss Hart, when did you get here!"

"Just now. What are you so flustered about? Were you saying something you shouldn’t have been? Tell me, let me hear it," Lily Hart said, her curiosity piqued.

"You just said it’s something I shouldn’t be saying, so how could I possibly tell you?"

Once Roman Rowe was sure she hadn’t overheard him threatening Frost Shaw, he breathed a sigh of relief and started goofing around.

"Tch," Lily Hart scoffed.

Seth emerged from the kitchen with several dishes and called out, "Dinner’s ready!"

Whenever Lily Hart heard that shout, she felt like she was in a zoo, with the zookeeper carrying out feed, banging on an iron tub, and calling out to the animals.

And then all the animals would go scrambling over in a flash.

Just like now. The six little ones were the fastest, leading the charge to the kitchen, holding their small bowls, and lining up to be served.

With so many people, all with hearty appetites, they always had to cook at least two pots of rice.

Right behind them was Roman Rowe, who was always incredibly enthusiastic about mealtime. Then came Owen Warren—who would’ve thought he’d fall in love with human food?

The rest of them waited for the first group to finish before getting their own food.

Lily Hart never had to go to the kitchen; her bowl and chopsticks were usually handled by Roman Rowe and Frost Shaw.

The others were all vaguely aware of what was on those two’s minds, but they all pretended not to notice.

After all, they had their own feelings for her, too...

They even secretly tried to trip each other up.

Owen Warren, for one, couldn’t stand Frost Shaw. ’Just because he met Boss Hart first, that means he gets to be closest to her?’

He thought to himself, ’I want to be the closest one to Boss Hart!’

Take right now, for instance. Frost Shaw was walking toward the dining table, carrying his own bowl of food in his left hand and Boss Hart’s in his right.

As Owen Warren brushed past him, his fingers moved stealthily, adding a little "seasoning" to the food.

His movements were perfectly disguised; no one saw a thing. He then nonchalantly headed for the restroom.

Frost Shaw carried the two bowls to the table, placing one in front of Lily Hart and the other at his own seat.

Across from them, Owen Warren silently took his seat. He lifted his own bowl to mask his expression, allowing him to observe the scene in plain sight.

Frost Shaw picked up his bowl and chopsticks and started to shovel food into his mouth.

But then he stopped, even putting his bowl down. Oh, he was getting a dipping sauce for Lily Hart.

Owen Warren froze, silently urging him on: ’Hurry up and eat! Eat!’

As if granting his wish, Frost Shaw returned, picked up his bowl again, and prepared to dig in—but then he stopped again!

Oh, he was peeling shrimp for Lily Hart.

Owen Warren was speechless... He could only watch as Frost Shaw expertly peeled an entire bowl of shrimp for Lily Hart, not keeping a single one for himself.

Owen watched him finish peeling the shrimp, wipe his hands on a napkin, and pick up his bowl to finally eat.

And then he stopped. Again.

Owen Warren stared, wondering what it could possibly be this time. Oh, he was pouring a drink for Lily Hart.

He picked up his glass and held it out, shamelessly piping up, "Pour me a glass, too."

Frost Shaw shot him a glance and poured him a full glass. He then poured drinks for the two girls, Diana Sharp and Tina Jacobs, as well.

He then put the bottle on the table. "If anyone else wants some, help yourselves."

After all that, Frost Shaw sat down again, picked up his bowl to eat, and this time, he didn’t stop.

But in that moment, Owen Warren understood. ’With that kind of perceptiveness, that attention to every little detail... of course he can be the one closest to Lily Hart.’

’Then I can be the second closest, right?’

’He was suddenly feeling a bit of regret... but it was probably too late...’

"Ack! What is this?!" Frost Shaw slammed his bowl down, grabbed a napkin, and spat vigorously. "PTHOO, PTHOO, PTHOO!"

Lily Hart took a look. Aside from the layer of rice on top, the rest of the bowl was filled with sand...

He had just taken a huge bite—a massive, no-holds-barred mouthful.

Even Lily Hart’s mouth felt dry on his behalf. She took the initiative and handed him a glass of water. Frost Shaw took it reflexively, his cool hand brushing against the back of hers.

After drinking some water and rinsing his mouth out several times, the gritty taste was finally gone.

Frost Shaw just wanted to know. "Where did this sand come from? Does anyone else have sand in their bowl?"

In the time he’d spent getting sauce, peeling shrimp, and pouring drinks, everyone else had already finished their first bowl.

They all just shook their heads in confusion. "What? Sand? We don’t have any. How could there be sand in the food?"

He was baffled. ’How on earth did sand get in there?’

Lily Hart glanced around the table, and when she met Owen Warren’s guilty, darting eyes, she understood everything.

She tugged on the hem of Frost Shaw’s shirt. He reflexively looked down, meeting her sly, knowing eyes.

Her eyes were sparkling. She flicked her gaze in Owen Warren’s direction, and Frost Shaw followed it. He immediately noticed that Owen wasn’t acting like his usual self.

Usually, Owen Warren was a boisterous eater, taking up enough space for two with his expansive presence.

But now, he seemed reserved, almost timid, and he wouldn’t even look in their direction. ’Definitely suspicious!’

’Forget it. We’re all family here. I’ll settle this score properly after dinner!’

Frost Shaw dumped out the sand, washed his bowl, and refilled it with a fresh serving from the rice cooker.

This time it was clean rice, but Frost Shaw felt like he could still taste sand. He couldn’t tell if it was just his imagination or if Owen Warren was up to something again.

As they were finishing up dinner, Lily Hart put down her bowl and said, "By the way, we got another first-prize winner today. She’s from a hardware store. Leo Colby, you can get a room ready for her."

Boss Hart had made a habit of sending people his way, and he had grown used to it. "Alright," he agreed readily. "Man or woman?"

"A woman!" Lily Hart said. "And don’t put her anywhere near Old Man Keaton. We don’t want her getting a bad first impression of us!"

Leo Colby indicated that he understood. But that reminded him of something.

"That old man has stayed in his room ever since he got here. It seems like he doesn’t even eat. He’s not going to starve to death in there, is he?" Leo Colby’s main concern was having someone die in his hotel.

Lily Hart waved a dismissive hand, looking completely unconcerned. "Don’t worry about him. He’s just like that. He could stay in there for a month without coming out. He won’t starve."

Hearing her say that, Leo Colby felt relieved. As long as no one died in his hotel, he was fine.

The moment dinner was over, Owen Warren slipped away at top speed.

Frost Shaw wanted to settle the score but couldn’t find an opportunity. ’You’ve really got to be kidding me,’ he thought. ’Putting sand in someone’s food...’

’Some people have way too much time on their hands! And what a waste of food!’

With dinner finished, the ten o’clock closing time was another step closer. The customers seemed to sense this and rushed to buy a few more scratch-off tickets.

Lily Hart glanced at her progress bar. It had just passed the 100,000 mark. She immediately purchased an automatic scratch-off machine and a vending machine. After setting them up outside, one of her tasks was considered complete.

With that task finished, Lily Hart could finally relax completely. It was time to properly embrace the slacker life.
