Chapter 237: Chapter 216: Nocturne 3

Ye Qingniao sounded as if she’d had too much to drink. She was growing drowsy, her words becoming muddled as if she were talking in her sleep.

"Hehe... I wasn’t trying to hide it from you."

A wry smile touched Lin Fan’s lips.

He shifted upward, leaning against the headboard. Reaching over to the nightstand, he clicked the flashlight back on. The beam struck the translucent lampshade, casting a soft, dim yellow halo over the head of the bed and illuminating Ye Qingniao’s flushed, sleeping face.

A silvery-white metal can suddenly appeared in his hand. CLICK. He pulled the tab, popping open the lid.

Inside, chunks of various fruits soaked in a thick syrup, glistening and colorful.

’So it really is a can of fruit salad...’

He tipped the can back and poured all the syrup into his mouth. High sugar meant energy, after all. With his current metabolism, he wasn’t worried about getting fat; he’d be lucky if his daily intake could even keep up with the calories he burned. He felt like he’d already lost weight over the past few days.

"Want some? It’s fruit."

After drinking the syrup, Lin Fan plucked a slice of peach from the can and brought it to Ye Qingniao’s mouth, gently brushing it against her lips.

"Canned fruit?"

Ye Qingniao’s eyes snapped open, but the spark in them lasted only a moment before being veiled by a hazy sleepiness, leaving her gaze unfocused, like a child’s.

"I want some..."

"Say ’ah.’"

"Ahhh—"

She obediently opened her mouth.

Lin Fan placed the cool, soft, sweet slice of peach into her mouth. Too lazy to even chew properly, she gave it a couple of cursory bites before swallowing, leaving a glistening speck of syrup at the corner of her lips.

While she did that, Lin Fan popped a white cube of coconut jelly into his own mouth.

It was smooth, sweet, and refreshing. That long-lost, artificially sweet flavor was a hundred times more delicious than any canned fruit he had ever bought from a supermarket in the past.

One bite for you, one bite for me. In this precarious world, inside this abandoned budget hotel, the two of them were like a pair of little thieves sharing their spoils. Before long, the entire one-kilogram can of fruit salad was gone.

This was the first time Lin Fan had ever shared food dropped by the System with another person.

"Was it good?"

Lin Fan casually set the empty can on the nightstand and looked down at the woman in his arms. She seemed to be completely overcome by a wave of sleepiness. Her eyelids were fighting to stay open, but she stubbornly kept one eye half-lidded, staring dazedly at his lips.

"Lin Fan..." Her voice was as soft and sweet as melting candy. "Can you kiss me...?"

She didn’t wait for his response or give him any time to think. One of her hands, limp but determined, hooked around his neck. She pushed herself up, pressing her face against his like a little kitten seeking warmth.

Their lips touched.

The sensation was like the gentle brush of a girl’s fingertips, a soft touch that sent a signal straight to his core.

The rich sweetness of chocolate and cream mingled with the fresh fragrance of peach, coconut jelly, and pineapple. They all intertwined with an intoxicating hint of cola, an explosion of flavor in their mouths...

As the sweetness spread, the last of the strength supporting her body finally gave out. Her arm went limp, and she collapsed against him like a pool of melted spring water—heavily, but with complete trust.

He felt the searingly hot, naked, and supple body in his arms.

The arousal he might have expected never came. Instead, he was filled with an unprecedented, profound sense of peace.

He pulled the nearby blanket over them, wrapping them up tightly and shutting out the cold of the world outside. His arm instinctively circled her slender waist, pulling the little creature closer into his embrace. His chin came to rest naturally on the crown of her head.

The rain continued to fall outside, but in their own little warm haven, the world had stopped turning.

"Good night."

Lin Fan placed another light kiss on the scar on her forehead. Cradling the little kitten in his arms, his own consciousness swiftly drifted into a sweet, deep sleep.
