Chapter 220: Chapter 208: Your Cheat Is Tougher Than Mine?

SZZZZT! The two thick arms were severed clean at the elbow!

The stumps were charred black, not even a drop of liquid sprayed out. The wounds were instantly sealed shut by the high temperature.

She had sliced the monster’s arms clean off at the elbows!

A violent electric current surged into the monster’s body through the wounds. In an instant, its entire form was wreathed in tendrils of electricity, and silver-blue arcs sparked across its surface!

The "Jiang Jing" creature trembled, its movements coming to an abrupt halt as it stood rigidly in place like a block of wood.

All of this was within Ye Qingniao’s calculations. The attachment she once held for her former elder was gone from her eyes, as was her earlier rage. All that remained was the crackling electricity and a cold, murderous intent.

She rode the momentum of her swing, raising her longsword high before bringing it down in a powerful cleave upon the paralyzed monster’s head.

"Die!"

With a flash of blue light, the monster’s skull was instantly split in two vertically. The sword’s momentum carried it down through the torso, slicing the creature wide open as it toppled backward.

There were no organs inside, only countless, densely packed, small black roots and tentacles, writhing and tangling together like maggots. Exposed to the air, they twisted ceaselessly.

[1/3255]...

Seeing the red health bar hanging stubbornly in the air with a final sliver of health thinner than a hair, Lin Fan’s eye twitched.

"It’s not quite dead. Finish it..."

He mumbled indistinctly, tilting his head back and stuffing his mouth with meat from a can he had just opened.

His hot pot meal had been interrupted after only a couple of bites, and all this work had left him starving.

He had decided before that unless he was at the end of his rope or trapped in a desperate situation, he would absolutely not touch the strategic reserves in his inventory...

Clearly, that moment had arrived.

GULP...

A large chunk of meat slid down his throat.

Lin Fan had already saved up several hundred of these canned meats in his inventory, each weighing one kilogram.

And unlike the cheap stuff from the supermarket, with their labels boasting "solid content no less than sixty percent," these system-produced cans were packed with meat, not liquid. They were fragrant, savory, and utterly delicious.

It was the perfect time to pull one out and refuel.

It was just a pity that Lin Fan had studied them over and over again; every can was a solid, silver-white metal cylinder. Forget a production date or an ingredients list, there wasn’t even a paper label.

’A classic black-market product, no doubt.’

’It’s a shame I can’t find the manufacturer for these system supplies...’ Lin Fan thought with regret as he chewed on a piece of meat.

’I should ask them if they have any canned fruit. All this meat is gonna mess me up...’

While Lin Fan was savoring his meal, Ye Qingniao wasn’t standing idle. Hearing him say the monster wasn’t dead, she decisively gathered her power and swung her sword at the creature’s supine body once more.

The monster’s body was still twitching slowly, paralyzed by the electricity. Fleshy tendrils sprouted wildly from the two halves of its bisected torso like weeds, trying to connect and seal the wound. But the current kept charring them black and snapping them, slowing its regeneration.

CRACK—

Before it could recover, Ye Qingniao struck again with another electricity-wreathed slash!

The blue light concentrated on her blade tore across the ground, leaving a deep, smoking trench. The monster’s newly-rejoined head was instantly severed again.

"Go die somewhere else!"

Ye Qingniao skewered the head on her longsword and hurled it far into the distance.

[1/3367].

"How..."

"...is it still not dead?!"

Even without a head, the body was still writhing. The fleshy tendrils on both sides were linking up, and even the severed arms had already grown back halfway!

Without waiting for Lin Fan to speak, she raised her longsword and began stabbing it into the monster’s chest again and again, creating new wounds to prevent it from regenerating.

"That monster... I heard... I heard from that young lady with Colonel Lin that it can’t die!"

Cheng Qi, hearing Ye Qingniao’s shout, hurriedly replied from the armored car.

"No matter what, it’ll recover even if you smash it to pieces!"

"They already told you it’s an unkillable monster..."

Lin Fan poured the last of the meat juice from the can into his mouth, smacking his lips with relish. He tossed the empty can aside and said lazily,

"You put in a little more effort. I can’t do any strenuous exercise right after eating..."

Leaning on his spear, he let out a loud, undignified burp.

"AHHHH, YOU BASTARD!!!"

At the sight, Ye Qingniao whipped her head away from him and took out her fury on the monster, madly hacking at it with her longsword.

But Lin Fan wasn’t really just letting his food settle. He simply wanted some distance to survey the bigger picture.

At first, the monster’s body wasn’t very tough. Ye Qingniao’s sword could easily cleave it open.

’But I wonder if the girl over there, busy dishing out the pain, has noticed that its body is getting tougher...’

The wounds from Ye Qingniao’s attacks were getting smaller, and from what Lin Fan could see, the damage she was dealing was dropping as well.

At first, she only needed two sword strikes to empty the monster’s health bar, leaving it at [1]. But as the monster recovered, Lin Fan was surprised to discover that it wasn’t just regenerating its Life Value, but its maximum Life Value as well...

And now, its health had risen to [122/4256].

In just a few dozen seconds, its maximum Life Value had increased by over a thousand. And as its maximum Life Value increased, its body also became tougher and tougher.

It was also as if it had a health lock enabled. No matter how Ye Qingniao attacked, she could only ever reduce its Life Value to [1], never to zero.

Even Lin Fan, with his overview of the battle, hadn’t found any clues.

SKREEE!

As if its maximum Life Value had hit a critical threshold, the body abruptly broke free of the electric current’s hold. Several fleshy spikes shot out from its wounds, stabbing toward Ye Qingniao as she swung her sword.

CLANG!

The sudden attack startled her, but her reflexes were incredibly fast. She hastily blocked with her sword before leaping aside, narrowly dodging the second wave of attacks.

"Lin Fan! Look!"

The moment Ye Qingniao landed, she quickly called out to the still-digesting Lin Fan, warning him of the monster’s change.

The impact of those fleshy spikes against her longsword had actually made the webbing of her hand go numb.

"I’m watching..."

Lin Fan finally straightened up from his spear, stretching his wrists and ankles.

[1672/4622]...

The monster’s maximum Life Value was about to reach five thousand. And now that Ye Qingniao had stopped attacking, its Life Value was rapidly regenerating at a rate of two or three hundred points per second.

’That can’t be right...’

Lin Fan went back to leaning on the shaft of his spear, both hands wrapped around it, and stared at the monster, muttering under his breath.

He’d heard from Cheng Qi that Su Qing had stalled this monster so Chu Zhaozhao could go for help. The round trip for everyone to get back must have taken at least four or five minutes.

’If the monster’s growth rate was this fast, there’s no way Su Qing could have lasted that long, no matter how gifted she is...’

’If its previous opponent was Su Qing, then its previous health of over three thousand should have been enough. Now that its opponent is Ye Qingniao, it’s started to evolve again?’

’No, not evolution. Adaptation...’

’It’s adapting to the attacks.’

’Just as I thought. There’s no such thing as an unkillable monster.’

’Either your DPS can’t keep up with its regen, or you haven’t hit its weak spot.’

’This monster clearly has both. Fast regeneration, a health lock, and it can even increase its physical toughness—and by extension, its maximum Life Value—in response to attacks...’

’In that case...’

A sharp glint flashed in Lin Fan’s eyes. He let go of the spear, slowly walked to its side, and reached out to touch the shaft.

Then, he crouched slightly, every muscle in his body tensing to its limit.

BOOM!

A deafening crack!

He slammed one foot against the base of the spear where it was planted in the ground.

The quadrangular spearhead embedded in the ground couldn’t withstand the terrifying lateral force. It was instantly bent into an obscene angle within the concrete, which exploded outward in a spiderweb of cracks!

Using this reactive force, Lin Fan instantly vanished.

He shot forward like a cannonball, tearing through the air with a deafening roar and an unstoppable, terrifying momentum.

Towards... towards the wall closest to him!

Midway through his flight, an alien-shaped greatsword with a metallic sheen suddenly materialized in his hand.

The weight of the greatsword slowed his charge for an instant, but he remained incomparably swift.

And within the unique, bowl-like structure on the sword’s spine, a restless, bizarre energy was compressing manically, slowly beginning to overflow...

’Even my damn system has to obey the law of conservation of energy!’

’So what the hell are you?’

’Pulling a bigger health bar out of thin air?’
