Chapter 217: Chapter 207: Pay-to-Win Warrior

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK...

Lin Fan raised his spear and used the shaft to tap lightly on the armored car’s thick, bulletproof glass. Looking at the dazed man inside who still hadn’t snapped back to reality, he waved his hand impatiently.

"Open up, open up!"

"Uncle Cheng!"

Ye Qingniao had also recognized the person inside and shouted excitedly.

Cheng Qi, as if waking from a dream, fumbled with the door lock, which opened with a CLICK.

"Cyan Bird!? Colonel Lin!?

What are you two doing here? Where is this place?"

The armored car door swung open, and Cheng Qi stared at the two of them, his eyes wide as he asked in bewilderment.

Lin Fan was still the same old Lin Fan, but Ye Qingniao now had a ghastly scar on her face, red and raw, as if from an electric shock...

"It’s a long story... Don’t ask so many questions right now. What happened outside? Are they gone!?" Lin Fan asked, his voice laced with anxiety.

"Didn’t Ye Qingzhou get you all out of here? What are you doing here?"

After all, Ye Qingzhou was out there. Lin Fan had assumed that with her skills, she would have led everyone away as soon as the time was right.

Even with the few troublemakers in his own group, Ye Qingzhou should have been able to handle them.

’So how did her armored car end up in here?’ he wondered.

"They’re gone! They all left! I... Shit!"

Cheng Qi could see Lin Fan’s urgency and hurried to answer, but when he tried to explain what happened, his tongue got twisted. Frustrated, he slammed a fist on the steering wheel.

"...My story is even longer!"

...

"So you rammed the ’undying monster’ into the ruins of the building, crashed straight through it, and then somehow ended up here?"

After listening to Cheng Qi’s brief, stumbling account, Lin Fan nodded slightly.

A lot had happened after communications went down, but the outcome was better than he had expected.

The news that Su Qing had stayed behind alone to cover the retreat so Chu Zhaozhao could deliver a message had certainly made his heart clench. It was a bit of a surprise, but on second thought, it wasn’t that unexpected.

In any case, Cheng Qi had bought everyone time. With Wang Yuanhua and Xu Qian at full strength, escaping with the others wouldn’t have been a problem.

Although Su Qing and Chu Zhaozhao were seriously injured, Chu Zhaotian and Xu Qian still had medical serums. Lin Fan had explained the effective duration and dosage intervals to them. Given the constitution of an Awakened One, as long as they weren’t killed on the spot, it was very difficult for them to die completely.

"...Yeah, that’s about right!"

Cheng Qi nodded, wiping the sweat from his face as he spoke, still seeming a bit dazed.

"Well done."

Lin Fan reached out and clapped Cheng Qi heavily on the shoulder, his eyes filled with unconcealed admiration.

Meanwhile, Ye Qingniao, still clinging to Lin Fan’s back, also reached out and patted Cheng Qi’s shoulder.

"Uncle Cheng, when you get back, Uncle Yu is going to beat you up..."

After saying her piece, she skillfully retracted her arm like a koala and wrapped it back around Lin Fan’s neck.

"Cyan Bird... Colonel Lin, what’s with you two...?"

Cheng Qi was already in a daze from having survived such a disaster, but he never expected to run into these two here. Seeing their "combined form," he didn’t even know where to begin his complaints.

"I’m crippled..."

"She’s freeloading and won’t leave..."

The two said at the same time.

"Crippled, my ass."

Hearing her, Lin Fan suddenly twisted his head to speak to his "other" head.

"Your body is fine; it’s your willpower that’s crippled..."

Before the three of them could finish speaking, in the span of just a few dozen seconds, the wall illuminated by the armored car’s headlights began to squirm again. A continuous stream of figures squeezed in through the gaps between the tentacles—zombies, mutants, and even some strange monsters never seen before, which looked like they were pieced together from fragmented corpses.

As soon as those figures saw the two people in the headlights, they let out bloodthirsty roars and, locking onto their targets, surged forward like a tidal wave!

"Here we go again..."

Lin Fan glanced impatiently at the horde of corpses opposite them and shouted to Ye Qingniao on his shoulder,

"This car is sturdy. Get inside!"

"No way! I’ll help you!"

Ye Qingniao tightened her left arm around Lin Fan’s neck and said excitedly, brandishing the longsword in her right hand.

"Then get the hell down here and help me!"

Lin Fan felt his neck tighten, almost cutting off his breath.

Seeing the horde was upon them, he decisively slammed the armored car door shut, locking the dumbfounded Cheng Qi inside. With Ye Qingniao on his back and spear in hand, he didn’t retreat but charged forward, straight into the massive swarm of zombies and monsters!

"My leg hasn’t fully healed yet!"

Ye Qingniao, not to be outdone, shouted back excitedly as she swung her longsword, splitting the head of a zombie that had approached Lin Fan’s flank in two!

Meanwhile, Cheng Qi, sitting in the driver’s seat, quietly rolled down the window a little as the two charged out. He leaned out, raised his large-caliber pistol, and prepared to help them fight off the enemy.

But he never expected that this "man and rider" duo would be like a tiger pouncing into a flock of sheep. Beneath the spear and sword, not a single enemy could withstand a single blow!

The silvery-white spear in Lin Fan’s hands moved with wide, powerful sweeps. Every thrust carried the force of a thunderbolt, and his attacks were laced with a strange power. Each time he stabbed a Mutated Zombie, it would shatter into pieces.

And Ye Qingniao on his back was like his second-in-command. Whenever a zombie or an agile-type mutated zombie approached from the side or rear, her longsword would swing like the Grim Reaper’s scythe, precisely lopping off the top half of its head!

The spear’s shadow moved like a dragon, the sword’s light flashed like lightning.

Though they were two separate individuals, at this moment they fought as one, like a three-headed, six-armed god of war. They had transformed into a meat grinder with no blind spots, firmly holding back and reaping the tide of the zombie horde...

"Holy cow..."

Cheng Qi was so stunned his jaw dropped. He kept his gun raised but couldn’t find a single opportunity to fire. He simply rested it on the car window, just in case.
