Chapter 144: Chapter 143: The Coffin Fund

The tip of the spear violently collided with the two tentacles that had missed their mark and were now whipping back around. The crushing, sharp force imbued in the blade erupted, twisting together with the vine-like appendages and scraping out several flashes of white light!

SCREEECH—

A piercing, high-frequency noise emanated from their point of contact. The surrounding air seemed to ignite. Only then did Lin Fan see that the vine-like appendages were also emanating translucent ripples—clearly, it was another form of energy attack!

POP!

An exceptionally crisp sound, like a bubble bursting, rang out. The flashes of white light generated by the friction all exploded in unison, severing both tentacles at once!

[-119]!

And the tip of the spear in Lin Fan’s hand was also chipped off!

[Durability: 94/100]!

"Repair!"

Lin Fan repaired it without hesitation. A phantom Blade flashed before his eyes, the spear in his hand glinted with a blue light, and its tip was instantly restored to pristine condition!

But Lin Fan wasn’t the only one who could regenerate. From the severed ends of the two tentacles torn apart by the energy storm, writhing buds of flesh and fiber began to squirm out like countless earthworms climbing a wire. Within just two seconds, they had reconstructed their complete forms.

Not only were they restored, but the skin at the ends of the vine-like tentacles burst open. Dripping with mucus, two short, thick spikes grew out. They looked incredibly hard, and wisps of energy rippled around them!

It wasn’t just these two tentacles that had evolved. A third one extended from the bottom of the pit, still dripping with slime, as if it had just hatched from one of the sacs.

Lin Fan understood. If he dragged this out, more and more of these tentacles would appear. Moreover, the sacs in the cavern below were clearly evolving—or rather, hatching those Mutated Zombies. This was their most vulnerable moment.

He didn’t know how that convoy had managed to barge in at just this moment, but it was also the reason most of them had been able to get out safely.

The sound from his recent clash with the tentacle had alerted all the surrounding 500-HP zombies, making them turn to look. But since there was no scent of a living person, they were only drawn by the sound and began to shamble over.

It wasn’t just the surrounding zombies. Even the two giant tentacles that reached high into the sky began to sway and descend, though not quickly.

This told him that while the two tentacles were tough from his perspective, on their massive scale, they were still fragile. If they were to slam down from hundreds of meters up with full force, the immense inertia would be enough to make them snap.

Watching the three tentacles attack him again, Lin Fan, bolstered by the potion, moved like a slippery dragon. He parried and dodged, separating the first two before cleaving at the third with all his might!

SCREECH—SNAP!

The sound of a bursting balloon rang out again, and the tentacle snapped in two!

Lin Fan ducked and slipped between the other two tentacles, then broke into a run, striding toward the pit of the monster’s nest!

The two tentacles missed and immediately whipped back, but by then, Lin Fan had already reached the edge of the pit and taken a flying leap!

He was now in mid-air, soaring toward the two thick tentacles in the center of the pit!

Lin Fan’s worst fear didn’t come to pass!

He had been most worried that these two thick tentacles would be strong enough to withstand slamming down from that height. They would be like two meteorites, leaving him no choice but to pop all his buffs and run for it.

But if that happened, he would lose any chance of killing this ten-thousand-HP monster!

Moreover, with dozens, even hundreds of Mutated Zombies here, Lin Fan didn’t think they were just quietly evolving for show.

The moment they swarmed out of their nest would be the moment of annihilation for all nearby survivors.

Fortunately, the two giant tentacles weren’t unimaginably strong; they descended from their great height very slowly.

Since the two big ones couldn’t come down for now, Lin Fan, in his fully overclocked state, wasn’t the least bit afraid of the few smaller tentacles!

Equipping the damaged armor crystal, Lin Fan quickly twisted his body and planted his feet on one of the thick tentacles standing upright in the middle of the pit. Immediately, blue ripples began to flash beneath his feet!

As expected, the thick tentacle had its own automatic energy counterattack. Luckily, Lin Fan was prepared, ready to counter its move... with his feet.

This type of crystal only consumed its own energy, allowing Lin Fan to avoid spending his own Energy Value on defense and instead channel it all into his spear for offense!

With a wave of his arm, he smashed his spear into the two small pursuing tentacles. One was blown apart, while the other was knocked aside by Lin Fan’s strength, wrapping around the other thick tentacle nearby!

With no more pursuers, Lin Fan kicked off with both feet, raised his spear, and thrust it toward the other thick tentacle!

The impact force imbued in the spear’s blade-like tip broke through the tentacle’s energy defense, pierced straight in, and got stuck, leaving Lin Fan hanging in mid-air.

The thick tentacle he had pierced began to spasm and tremble instinctively, trying to shake him, this "parasite," off.

But the movement at the base of the tentacle couldn’t be too violent; otherwise, the tip of the massive appendage would snap right off due to the whiplash effect.

And so, Lin Fan hung there in mid-air, swaying along with the tentacle, and looked down from above at the monster below...

Amidst a sea of health bars in the hundreds and low thousands, the one reading [6170/10000] stood out starkly...

And its layered, overlapping fleshy tissues were still writhing, clearly gestating something that was about to emerge.

The three small tentacles were also slowly regenerating not far away. Although the speed was a bit slower than before, Lin Fan could see that their tips were now sharper and more slender, and the main bodies of the tentacles also seemed thicker.

It wasn’t hard to deduce that it was constantly evolving in response to his attacks...

’What a terrifying monster...’

’If it weren’t at this critical moment of evolution, and if that squad hadn’t created such favorable conditions for me, I truly couldn’t imagine how I’d defeat this thing in its normal state...’

’The right time, the right place, the right people.’

With a thought, Lin Fan summoned a huge, one-meter-square metal container in front of him. Like a meteorite appearing from thin air, the moment it materialized, it was captured by gravity and plummeted toward the monster at the bottom of the pit with a WHOOSH!

This was Lin Fan’s last resort—the very "ace" that gave him the confidence to tell Su Qing to abandon the van: one [Gasoline (Large)].

A full ton of it.

This was also the first time Lin Fan had used a consumable from his inventory, aside from materials.

But to kill the monster at the bottom of the pit and the dozens of Mutated Zombies in the sacs on the pit walls, this price was completely worth it.

At this moment, the monster’s three small tentacles had finished regenerating. But just as Lin Fan predicted, all three shot downward, stabbing toward the metal container!

Between a "gnat" hanging in mid-air and a giant metal block about to smash into its face, the monster was still able to tell which was the greater threat.

THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!

A few muffled thuds, like the sound of heavy hammers striking an iron plate, rang out!

The huge container was violently pierced by the three vine-like tentacles. Their sharp, chitinous spikes tore through the thick metal plating, producing a cringe-inducing sound of screeching metal!

The impact knocked it off its original trajectory, causing it to crash to the side and miss the largest sac.

But the bottom of the pit was covered in fleshy tissue, so the giant metal container didn’t create a single spark when it landed. However, several gashes on its surface were now gushing a clear liquid.

A strong, pungent smell rose from the bottom of the pit, overpowering the original stench of blood and rot.

That clear liquid, like Holy Water, poured over the monster’s constantly writhing flesh, drenching its slime and tissues until they glistened.

The monster seemed to feel the discomfort brought on by the chemical. The giant sac began to stir restlessly, and the three small tentacles immediately twisted around and stabbed toward Lin Fan again!

"Fuck, again?!"

It wasn’t just the small tentacles. Hanging from his spear, Lin Fan watched as the tip of the giant tentacle in the distance finally came sweeping down from the sky!

It tore through the air, letting out a dull, thunderous roar. Before it even got close, the overwhelming air pressure made Lin Fan’s face sting!

"I’m not done yet! Eat shit!"

Seeing the gasoline vapors rising, he had another thought. Another giant metal container appeared in front of him and plummeted downward!

It was his other ace up his sleeve: [Diesel (Large)]!
