Chapter 307: Chapter 246: Where Are the Good People?

CLAP CLAP CLAP.

Patriarch Chen led the applause.

The head of the Commerce Association spoke up next. "What brilliant Sword Skill, Saintess! Brilliant Sword Skill!"

’So the Boat Gang’s Sixth Grade expert is nothing special either!’

’If we’d known this would happen, why did we agree to raise the age limit for the tournament to thirty-five?’

’It just made us look inferior to the White Tiger Tribe for no reason.’

The recently defeated factions—the Horse Gang, the Commerce Association, and the Lu Family—felt a sense of relief, and their applause and praise grew even louder.

’See? It’s not that we’re weak. The enemy is just a freak of nature.’

’That thirty-four-year-old senior Sixth Grade from the Boat Gang is more than ten years older than the Saintess, right?’

’And he still went down in a single slash, didn’t he?’

Shui Qianjun’s expression was grave.

The good news: the Saintess had made her move.

The bad news: against an opponent of the same Realm, even he didn’t know how to counter that Instant Slash.

Aunt Lian opened her mouth to comment on the slash, but she hesitated. "That slash...?"

She wasn’t sure if her eye was keen enough and was afraid her judgment would affect Tang Wen.

Shui Qianjun’s expression softened, and he was just about to speak.

"Instant Step! That slash was an Instant Slash!"

Dozens of people nearby turned to look. The one who had spoken was Tang Wen.

The nascent sun cast down a myriad of rays.

They shone upon him, making his skin glow like Warm Jade, translucent and bright.

Everyone’s eyes lit up. The barren winter wilderness seemed to have gained a touch of color.

His gaze met the sunlight as it fell upon the White Tiger Saintess, showing not a trace of worry.

’A true Banished Immortal Young Master!’

Shui Yun was suddenly filled with regret. Not regret for having to push Tang Wen toward another woman...

...but regret that she hadn’t devoured him sooner!

’My Junior Brother looks absolutely delicious.’

Shui Qianjun was pleasantly surprised. "You could tell?"

Tang Wen nodded slightly. "Master, I’m going to need a good blade!"

Even more people turned to look.

Shui Qianjun could no longer afford to worry about secrecy. "Are you confident?"

Tang Wen shook his head without hesitation.

After seeing just one of the Saintess’s slashes, he knew he couldn’t win.

He hadn’t mastered the Instant Step from the Night Divine Fist.

There was no way for him to dodge the Saintess’s Instant Slash, which seemed to ignore distance entirely.

"No confidence?"

Shui Qianjun’s hopes were dashed, and he was thoroughly frustrated. ’No confidence? Then what the hell do you need a blade for, you brat?’

But before he could speak, Tang Wen’s voice echoed in his mind via sound transmission: ’Master, I can’t win. In a few more years, maybe. But all I need to do is perform better than the others, right?’

Shui Qianjun’s eyes shifted, and he hurriedly transmitted back, "Right, right, right! I was thinking about it the wrong way! The White Tiger Saintess may be young, but she’s over twenty-three. You’re not even eighteen yet, you brat. What’s the point in comparing yourself to her!"

With his composure regained, his sharp intellect took command:

"Quick, go to the carriage in the back. The blades I prepared for you are all there."

"Mm." Tang Wen stood up.

Patriarch Chen had been worrying about what to do next. Seeing Tang Wen’s movement, he immediately boomed, "Nephew Tang, could it be that you wish to go first? Excellent! What a noble and virtuous spirit! Truly excellent!"

Tang Wen slowly turned his head, a questioning look on his face.

Shui Qianjun nearly coughed up a mouthful of blood. The two men were familiar with each other, so he slammed his hand on the table and said bluntly, "And you call yourself a sword devil! My disciple doesn’t even have a blade in his hand, how can he go first? We already agreed we’d go last. Does the Chen Family’s word mean nothing anymore?!"

His goal unachieved, Patriarch Chen—who had a Long Sword strapped to his back and the air of a great expert—didn’t get angry. He waved his hand and said, "Look at me, I must have misunderstood. However, a chance to make a name for yourself is right in front of you, Nephew Tang. Are you sure you don’t want to go first?"

"You old bastard!" Shui Qianjun’s fists clenched.

Tang Wen just smiled. "Senior, you flatter me. With my meager skills, it’s best if I stay for last."

A flash of surprise appeared in Patriarch Chen’s eyes. ’A Swordsmanship Grandmaster this young, with combat power rivaling a Sixth Grade expert.’

’And he’s so young, yet he doesn’t have a single trace of arrogance.’

’What the hell? This is bizarre!’

’Old Shui really got shit-lucky!’

’I have beautiful daughters too. I’ll have to try and win him over later.’

Tang Wen strode toward the carriage.

Shui Qianjun continued to glare viciously at Patriarch Chen. It looked as if he would have already thrown a punch if not for the intimidating Long Sword on the man’s back.

The latter also knew that his family had been out of line today.

First, they had forcefully blocked the Saintess’s proposed cooperation with the Black Water Gang, and then they had demanded the age limit for the competition be raised to thirty-five.

They had blatantly harmed the Black Water Gang’s interests!

He smiled without any hint of anger. "Old Shui! Look at you, getting worked up again. I was just testing our disciple’s temperament, wasn’t I?"

"He’s *my* disciple!"

"Yes, yes, yes, your disciple. But I have to say, the kid is impressive. As it happens, I have a few girls at home who are also stunningly beautiful... Hey, hey, hey, Old Shui, don’t walk away!"

Shui Qianjun was so angry he wanted to eat the man alive, but this wasn’t the right occasion. If they fought, it would become a joke. The Chen Family might be shameless, but the Black Water Gang couldn’t afford the embarrassment.

Inside the carriage were several long blades.

Their cold light glinted, and all of them looked extraordinary.

A casual flick sent one humming and vibrating.

He put down a long, straight blade and picked up a Tiger Head Blade.

It was heavy in his hand, weighing at least two hundred pounds.

The last weapon was a long-handled Horse-cutting Blade, a full two to three meters long. It could barely fit inside the carriage.

These three weapons were all masterworks, but they weren’t Curiosities.

Tang Wen had no confidence that they could withstand the Saintess’s blade.

He reached out and picked up the most familiar one: the Tiger Head Gold-Inlaid Blade.

Back at the Flame Camp, he’d had a Hundred-refinements Tiger Head Blade, but it had broken while fighting an Earth Beast.

The one before him now was more than ten times better in quality.

One blade wasn’t enough insurance, so he also strapped the long, straight blade, shaped like a Tang Blade, to his back.

Just as he was about to get out of the carriage, he heard footsteps. A small head peeked in, like an elementary schooler sneaking a look.

"What is it?"

Li Zi hopped into the carriage. "Want me to lend you the [Moon Traveling Clothes]? You could go up there, turn invisible, and maybe fight to a draw."

Tang Wen’s eyes lit up. That was an idea. "Doesn’t the Huang Family know the Thief Sect has the [Moon Traveling Clothes]?"

"So what if they know? Just say you killed someone and took it. It’s not like it belongs to their Huang Family." Li Zi spread her small hands. "Besides, it’s not even certain they’d recognize the Moon Traveling Clothes."
