Chapter 239: Chapter 222: Are You Even Young If You’re Not Hot-Blooded?
"The champion of this time’s internal Martial Artist tournament is—Rock Vajra, Zhang Xiu!"
"ROCK VAJRA! ROCK VAJRA!"
A large crowd erupted in cheers.
They banged the weapons in their hands against the stone floor, producing a cacophony of CLANGS.
Swept up in the atmosphere, the senior members on the platform also looked quite excited.
Tang Wen whispered, "Senior Sister, since there’s a competition for Martial Artists, don’t tell me there’s one for the Extraordinary too?"
As if they were the only two people there, Shui Yun toyed with Tang Wen’s long, slender fingers and shook her head. "Not within the gang. But the five major powers of Ganshan City hold a few matches every spring. Both the Extraordinary and Sixth Grades will compete."
Tang Wen’s interest was piqued. "What’s the prize for winning?"
"You’re such a little gold-digger!" Shui Yun rolled her eyes at him gently and sent a mental message. "The Black Water Gang will be ours sooner or later. Don’t get caught up in pointless fights and lose sight of the bigger picture."
’I’m a spy from another camp,’ Tang Wen thought, both excited and unnerved. ’Can I really inherit the Black Water Gang?’
’If she finds out the truth, will she cripple me in bed?’
"What’s with that look?" Shui Yun asked, her eyes narrowing.
"Oh, I was just wondering how many Cultivation Resources it would take to reach the Fifth Grade."
Pfft!
Following the sound, they saw it was the Fourth Young Master who had laughed.
He had been listening in on Tang Wen and Shui Yun’s conversation, his ears pricked up like a rabbit’s.
He was, without a doubt, a first-rate simp.
Whenever his "goddess" was present,
he watched her every move.
Even when she and Tang Wen were chatting intimately, he had to listen in, despite the heartache.
’What if they get into a fight? Would that be my chance?’
Shui Yun could ignore him a thousand times over,
but his adoration for his "goddess" would never waver.
Meeting Shui Yun’s and Tang Wen’s gazes, he wiped the smile from his face. "Seventh Brother, you certainly are confident. Not even at the Extraordinary realm, and you’re already thinking about breaking through to the Fifth Grade. I’m truly impressed."
A flash of anger appeared in Shui Yun’s eyes.
Tang Wen grabbed her hand. "Fourth Young Master, you flatter me. But when it comes to cultivation Talent... I’m not targeting anyone in particular. I just mean that all the so-called geniuses I’ve ever met—myself excluded—are nothing special!"
His statement cast a very wide net.
The people around them felt a stir of indignation, but when they looked at Tang Wen’s ridiculously young face, they were left speechless.
The frustration was suffocating.
Only Vice Gang Leader Lin lived up to his reputation as an old contrarian. "Young man, don’t be so arrogant!"
"And what’s the point of being young if you can’t be arrogant?"
Damn!
’He actually has a point.’
But Vice Gang Leader Lin was famously shameless, and he pressed on to save face. "You... you have no respect for your elders! I ought to teach you a good lesson on the Gang Leader’s behalf!"
Unexpectedly, Tang Wen’s face fell, and he adopted a look of pure panic. "How vicious! I may be a genius now, but after a ’lesson’ from you, I probably wouldn’t even be able to defeat a common Martial Artist! What a venomous scheme!"
Vice Gang Leader Lin: ???
’What is this nonsense?’
It wasn’t just him; everyone else who heard the remark was stunned into silence.
Then, someone caught the meaning and chuckled darkly. "Old Lin, your son is a mighty Extraordinary, yet he was injured by the shockwave from a duel between mere Martial Artists. How is he holding up these days?"
"What? You! You little bastard!" Old Man Lin finally understood Tang Wen’s insinuation. He flew into a rage, rolling up his sleeves and getting to his feet to settle the score.
Tang Wen immediately collapsed onto Shui Yun’s shoulder, his voice just loud enough for everyone to hear. "Look, everyone! Vice Gang Leader Lin is about to use his position to bully a junior! You know, Vice Gang Leader Lin is truly a clever one. He goes around acting like a reckless brute who fears neither heaven nor earth. It must make it so convenient for him to get things done!"
’Since you’re so shameless, Old Man Lin, I might as well strip away that last layer of pretense.’
’Let’s see you keep up that reckless act now!’
"That’s enough!" Vice Gang Leader Liu barked. "The Gang Leader is here, and so is the entire core of the gang! What is the meaning of this behavior?"
Tang Wen immediately put his palms together, his demeanor instantly becoming meek. "This disciple was wrong."
Vice Gang Leader Lin’s face flushed red, then turned pale. He was frozen, unable to either sit back down or remain standing.
"You see things so clearly," Shui Yun sent mentally. "But you shouldn’t have exposed him! That Old Lin is petty. He won’t let this go!"
Squeezing her hand, Tang Wen held it firmly and sent back, "I won’t let him off the hook, either."
"But... he’s a Sixth Grade."
"Not only that, but he’s on good terms with the Huang Family’s Third Young Master. They meet regularly. He might even have a Sixth Grade expert from the Huang Family staying at his residence!"
Before Shui Yun could ask, he added, "My crows have been watching his home ever since he took a dislike to me. I can confirm he’s colluding with the Huang Family."
After a moment of silence, Shui Yun whispered with deep meaning, "You’ve certainly been busy, Junior Brother."
Tang Wen didn’t seem to mind. He simply intertwined his fingers with hers.
Then, looking into her eyes, he whispered, "If everything were peaceful, I wouldn’t mind just lying back, cultivating, and letting you support me. But is Ganshan City peaceful?"
Shui Yun didn’t reply, only tightened her grip on his hand.
’How could Ganshan City possibly be peaceful?’
’It wasn’t just not peaceful; a crisis was on the verge of erupting.’
Despite the Black Water Gang’s apparent strength,
in many matters, they had no choice at all.
Tang Wen continued his mental message, "Usually, the man handles the public affairs while the woman manages the home. I guess I’ll take one for the team and help you manage things in the shadows, Senior Sister. Besides, it’s not in my nature to sit back and relax at home while you’re out there fighting for us."
Their eyes met.
Shui Yun smiled and replied with a teasing mental message, "I thought I was just keeping a pretty boy. I never expected my pretty boy to turn into a hidden dragon in the blink of an eye."
Tang Wen, who was still shorter than her, hated being called "little."
The two began to bicker via mental transmission.
Shui Yun teased him relentlessly, calling him "little bro," "little junior," and even "little guy."
Tang Wen stared intently at her moist, full red lips and sent back with a mental sneer, "Dearest Senior Sister, tonight. It has to be tonight. I’m claiming the first part of my reward!"
The color drained from Shui Yun’s face. She shook her head frantically. "I’m busy tonight! Really, I am!"
Nearby, watching their interaction, the Fourth Young Master felt his heart shatter into a million pieces.
