Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Squeeze Through Any Hole, Exploit Any Crack

It was a well-known fact that once a person was infected with the virus, they would lose their minds and turn into a zombie monster that knew only how to feed.

Thus, the moment they saw a living person, they would rush forward, desperate to tear and bite.

It had become a completely instinctual reaction for them!

But what Mengde was seeing now was completely different.

These hundred or so zombies, despite their eyes still holding that instinctual hunger, were forcibly controlling their desires.

It was as if they had received an order, standing motionless in place.

Fortunately, just as he was growing puzzled, the system provided a notification.

"A Tier One Zombie has appeared!"

Hearing the system’s notification, he wasn’t actually surprised.

It had been well over half a month. Even a shut-in otaku like Wang Yan, who fancied himself a "savior," had awakened a Superpower.

So, it wasn’t impossible for the zombies, having devoured so many survivors, to begin evolving one after another.

The appearance of a Tier One Zombie that had awakened a Superpower was only the beginning.

After all, just like survivors, zombies had a certain chance of awakening a Superpower!

And the more time passed, the more the zombies fed.

The number of zombies awakening Superpowers would increase, and those that had already awakened would evolve to become even stronger.

One could only imagine what would happen if survivors didn’t hurry to awaken Superpowers and improve themselves. In the future, they might not even have the strength to fight back against the zombies.

The final result awaiting humanity would be complete extinction.

At this moment, surrounded by a dense horde of zombies and cornered at the gas station entrance, Mengde was not the least bit panicked.

However, this Tier One Zombie was clearly well-hidden; even he couldn’t immediately pinpoint its location.

"HSSSK!"

Just then, a sudden zombie roar echoed out.

This roar was different from that of an ordinary zombie—it was much sharper and more piercing.

Mengde looked toward the sound.

’Found it!’

Through his Telekinesis Perception, he saw it behind the zombie horde, in an inconspicuous corner by a concrete pillar.

A short, fat zombie that had grown sideways appeared in his "vision."

This zombie was less than a meter tall, but it weighed at least 220 pounds.

Its rotund body was extremely bloated. From a distance, it looked like a lump of dead, fatty flesh piled on the ground.

Its clothes were long since tattered, caked with dried blood and unidentified, foul-smelling stains.

Atop a neck as thick as a thigh, its round face, wrinkled like pig intestines, was dripping with black blood. It was utterly disgusting!

[Zombie: Low-tier Manipulator]

[Level: Tier One Peak]

[Awakened Superpower: Corpse Flesh Rebound (C-Level)]

[Superpower Category: Enhancement Superpower (A Superpower that develops and strengthens the body’s functions in a humanoid form)]

Mengde understood in an instant. To put it simply, an Enhancement Superpower was like a tank or berserker from the games he used to play.

Instead of awakening a Superpower related to basic elements like "metal, wood, water, fire, or earth," it focused more on excavating one’s own potential.

It strengthened one’s own physical attributes!

[Note: Low-tier Manipulators, generally zombies with a Superpower Level of Tiers One to Three, can control other zombies, turning them into their minions.]

’Oh, no wonder it managed to gather so many zombies.’

’So they have a master now!’

Following a roar from the little fatty zombie, the horde at the entrance seemed to flip a switch, charging toward him with a chorus of "HURR... HURR... HURR..."

Even though their speed was slow, lurching and twisting as they moved, a horde of over a hundred was still an intimidating sight.

Mengde was fearless. Wielding his Tang Blade, he shot out like an arrow loosed from a bowstring.

He swung the Tang Blade in his hand rapidly, and the heads of the fastest few zombies immediately hit the ground.

With another spinning leap, he cleaved more than ten zombies in two, scattering severed limbs and arms across the floor.

But these zombies were emotionless "killers." Even though he had quickly slain dozens of them, more zombies still surged forward to take their place.

Before long, he was surrounded by layers upon layers of these zombies.

And unlike the zombies he had killed before, this group’s attacks were more organized.

They squeezed through any hole and exploited every gap!

This was likely related to the roars that the little fatty zombie in the distance let out from time to time.

’Is it controlling... the zombies?’

Mengde thought quickly.

Although he was confident in his strength and knew these zombies were no match for him, he decided to save himself the trouble and take out the leader first.

He would deal with the little fatty zombie first.

Once the little fatty zombie was dead, the rest would be easy to handle.

Besides, and most importantly, killing these normal zombies was pointless!

It was a complete waste of effort and time!

He’d rather use this time to go back and explore the mysteries of widowhood with Cheng Ying.

At this thought, his mind stirred.

"Telekinesis! Go!"

Ten fruit knives shot out, forming an arrowhead as they flew fiercely in one direction.

In their path, the surrounding zombies collapsed in waves.

Outside, the little fatty that saw this scene immediately grew anxious, letting out a sharp, "HURR... HURR... HURR..." roar.

But it was too late. In just a few seconds, Mengde burst out from the zombie horde.

His blade pointed directly at the little fatty zombie.

Seeing that the situation was bad, the little fatty zombie actually knew to run, letting out a frantic "HURR... HURR... HURR..." from its mouth.

And it wasn’t slow, either. Its body of over 220 pounds moved even faster than an ordinary zombie.

’As expected of a zombie that’s awakened a Superpower. Its intelligence has increased, and its coordination is much better too.’

But compared to Mengde, there was no contest.

In the blink of an eye, Mengde caught up to the little fatty zombie.

He viciously swung his Tang Blade at the little fatty zombie’s neck.

CLANG!

What Mengde hadn’t expected was that his ever-victorious Tang Blade had actually failed to lop off the zombie’s head in one strike.

Instead, it produced a harsh, grating sound of impact.

It left a deep, bloody gash on the little fatty zombie’s thigh-thick neck.

He, on the other hand, was hit by a rebounding force so strong that he almost lost his grip on the Tang Blade.

’Huh, interesting!’

’All that fat isn’t just for show!’

He recalled the system’s description of the little fatty zombie’s Superpower.

Corpse Flesh Rebound!

’It seems the Superpower this zombie awakened has a damage-rebound effect!’

’Its defense is pretty good, but... it’s just so fucking ugly!’

"If physical attacks don’t work, then let’s try my ’Magic Attack’!"

Telekinesis Transformation!

He molded his Telekinesis into the shape of a sword.

"Telekinesis Sword!"

As if sensing the danger of death, the little fatty zombie’s cries grew more frantic.

But in the next second, the Telekinesis Sword plunged straight into its head, which was bigger than three watermelons combined.

The terrifying power instantly obliterated what little intellect it had, and its attempt to flee came to an abrupt halt!

With a BOOM, the little fatty zombie, weighing nearly 330 pounds, collapsed to the ground.

Streams of black blood slowly flowed out from its obese corpse.

At the same time, a white, transparent crystal fell to the ground, emitting a dazzling light that instantly captured Mengde’s attention.

"Is this... a Zombie Crystal Core?"
