’Don’t worry, Ningning. Don’t feel burdened at all. It’s not a waste of time.

From now on, I’ll be in charge of killing monsters and earning our keep, and you can have the easy pickings every day, okay?’

Xie Ning returned to her tent in a daze, the charmer’s words echoing in her mind.

She slammed her backpack onto the table, flopped onto her bed, and buried her face in her hands. ’That guy is quite a flirt.’

’He doesn’t play by the usual rules at all.’

’Normally, someone with his high military rank should be serious and straight-laced.’

’But that guy went off the rails ages ago.’

Xie Ning rubbed her face and turned to see Zuo Li rushing into the tent excitedly. "Is the cargo plane here?"

"Yep!" Zuo Li nodded vigorously, beaming. "Ningning, hurry! Grab your gear and let’s go!"

Xie Ning quickly shouldered her precious backpack and rushed outside with Zuo Li.

They passed Chen Xiao, who was hurrying inside to pack up all the pots, pans, and other utensils in the tent.

A spray of bullets flew toward them but was blocked by the Metal Shield Xie Ning instantly deployed.

Zuo Li laughed heartily, flinging several Thunder Balls that crashed behind a dead tree nearby.

A few muffled grunts followed, and someone was blasted out from behind the tree, clutching their leg and groaning in pain.

"Captain, let’s rescue the others first," Xie Ning said, pulling Zuo Li down into a crouch and reinforcing the Metal Shield in front of them.

The two of them sprinted through a hail of gunfire, quickly reaching the foot of the mountain.

The restaurant from before had been shelled to the point of collapse and was now completely empty.

"Their stronghold should be on the southeast side of the scenic area. It’s well-hidden, with plenty of tree cover."

"Let’s go." In a few deft movements, Xie Ning reshaped the Metal Shield into a dense mesh and had Zuo Li slam a Thunder Ball into it.

The mesh was instantly filled with crackling electricity.

Xie Ning charged forward, carrying the electric net. Whenever she encountered someone, she rushed them without a word and gave them a powerful shock.

This saved Zuo Li a significant amount of her superpower energy.

Zuo Li only needed to recharge the net with a Thunder Ball every so often.

Working together seamlessly, they mowed down minions like cutting through weeds. As they reached the enemy stronghold, Xie Ning saw Martin and Gong Pingfan running out, their faces ashen.

Xie Ning charged at them with the electric net.

With a thought, the net flew from her hands, expanding and changing shape into a metal cage that dropped over Gong Pingfan’s head.

With a loud SIZZLE, Gong Pingfan collapsed, unconscious. Every strand of his curly, now-scorched hair stood on end.

"Ah! Ah!" Martin yelped, turning to flee, but Zuo Li caught up and kicked him to the ground.

Before the unlucky bastard could even speak, Zuo Li shot him in the shoulder and the leg. He collapsed into a whimpering heap in a pool of his own blood, unable to move.

Xie Ning smiled and walked over, driving a Metal Spike straight into the heart of the downed Gong Pingfan.

His eyes widened in terror, seemingly in disbelief that she would still attack him when he was already down.

"Now you can rest easy," Xie Ning said with a small smile, then turned her gaze to the blood-soaked Martin, who was desperately trying to crawl away.

"No, don’t kill me! You can’t kill me!" Martin was paralyzed with terror, feeling as if the blood had frozen in his veins.

He yelled as he scrambled backward, "It was me! I-I was the one who brought you to Barbarian Base! Miss Xie, all the time you stayed here, I... I never mistreated you in the slightest!"

"Yes, which is why I’m going to thank you properly, Mr. Ma." Xie Ning raised her hand, grabbing the electric net just in time to block the punch Martin threw as he suddenly lunged at her.

Martin felt the searing sensation of his own flesh scorching and burning as his fist made contact with the net.

An agonizing pain shot through him.

"AAAAHHH!" He thrashed on the ground, overwhelmed by the pain.

"Xie Ning—" Before he could finish his curse, Zuo Li’s fist smashed into his skull, finishing him off for good.

"Where are the other members of the Cannibal Team?"

Xie Ning glanced at the tent ahead. "They should all be in there."

"We can’t let any of them escape." ’These things have eaten their own kind. Strictly speaking, they can no longer be considered human.’

’It’s best to slaughter every last one of these humanoid monsters.’

The two of them burst into the tent and found themselves staring at a group of seemingly ordinary people, who stared right back.

One of them immediately dropped to his knees, prostrating himself on the ground with his hands raised high. "Don’t kill us! Please, don’t kill us!" he wailed.

At the same time, several others lunged from the side of the tent, a thick hemp rope in their hands, trying to get it around Zuo Li’s neck.

Xie Ning sneered. The metal mesh in her hand instantly expanded and flew over them, completely enveloping the attackers. A series of ZAPS echoed as electricity coursed through their bodies, an exquisitely agonizing sensation.

"Get them!" a hoarse voice roared.

Without hesitation, Xie Ning drew her K30 and put a bullet in the man who shouted.

The two descended upon them like wolves on a flock of sheep, finishing off everyone in the tent within minutes.

After a quick look around inside, Zuo Li couldn’t suppress her nausea. She threw back the tent flap and rushed out.

There were several basins of unidentifiable meat in the corner. Zuo Li didn’t dare look too closely, a wave of revulsion washing over her.

After finishing off the cannibalistic freaks from the CityArrow Club, Xie Ning and Zuo Li charged into the other tents, searching them thoroughly.

In the very last tent, they found Ke Li and Zhao Yanhan, both on the verge of death.

Ke Li was still wrapped in the thin blanket, curled into a ball and shivering uncontrollably in the corner.

Zhao Yanhan was in terrible shape as well. Zuo Li quickly gave her a few sips of warm water. The moment she opened her eyes, she stammered, "S-save my uncle... he has a fever."

Xie Ning pulled a thermometer from her bag. His temperature was over thirty-nine degrees Celsius. She quickly gave Ke Li some water and anti-inflammatory pills.

Tears streamed down Zhao Yanhan’s emaciated face. Her chapped lips parted, and she managed to get out in a quavering voice, "Th-thank you."

Zuo Li went outside to get two teammates to help carry them.

Xie Ning’s face was grim. "I’m going to check the rear. Two core members of the club are still unaccounted for."

’Not a single one of these cannibalistic freaks can be allowed to escape. They all have to die!’

"The... the one called Ms. Hao... she escaped," Zhao Yanhan said, struggling to speak and forcing herself to stay conscious. "Just now, she... she rushed in and tried to drag me with her... but Uncle fought her off."

Fortunately, Ms. Hao was a Visual Ability User. While her physical strength was slightly enhanced compared to a normal person’s, Ke Li was no pushover.

"Also... there’s another one, Chai Lei... I-I know... she was called away earlier by a Miss Zhang from Chaoyang Base."

Xie Ning nodded. "Get some rest. Don’t worry, your uncle will be fine."

"Th-thank you... thank you," the girl sobbed, as if she couldn’t quite believe that good fortune could have suddenly found her.

It was like someone who had been walking endlessly through the darkness, only to suddenly see a ray of light and feel that it couldn’t possibly be real.

She was too exhausted. She slowly closed her eyes.
