Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Chapter 305: The Gift Is Light, but the Sentiment Is Heavy

"Tsk, this Zhu Zihao is really something else." After entering the farmhouse space again, Xie Ning’s eyes were still filled with intense interest.

A powerful urge to explore surged within her.

It made her extremely curious to explore Zhu Zihao’s entire, massive 500-square-meter space and slowly uncover all the secrets of the hidden Fourth-level Space Ability User.

"This is just fascinating," Xie Ning murmured, wandering around a section of the farmland again. The more she looked, however, the more worried she grew.

’I’m not exactly a farmer!’

’What am I going to do now?’

"Do you know how to farm?" Xie Ning turned her head to look at Beichen.

The youth shot her a gloomy look, his voice slightly hoarse. "If I said I did, would you put me in chains and lock me by the fields to plant things nonstop?"

Xie Ning blinked her wide eyes. "You’re not a Wood Element Superpower User."

Beichen almost laughed in exasperation. "So I should be grateful for that?"

Xie Ning turned her head away. ’I don’t want to talk to him anymore!’

’This kid is just as unpleasant as he was in my past life.’

’I can still remember that arrogant, holier-than-thou look on his face from my past life!’

"I don’t know how to farm, but from what I saw, that guy Zhu Zihao didn’t either," Beichen said flatly. "You Space Ability Users should be able to manipulate everything within your space, including these seeds and fields."

Xie Ning felt the boy had a point. She tried using her Space Ability Energy to pull out a batch of mature vegetables and casually piled them beside the field.

Then she took out a small bag of vegetable seeds and scattered them haphazardly over a few plots of land.

Her technique, it had to be said... was utterly chaotic.

"What do you think are the chances of anything growing if I plant them like this?"

"I don’t know." Beichen could barely be bothered to critique her. "If you can grow a patch of vegetables by scattering seeds so carelessly, it can only mean the soil in this space must be excellent."

Again, Xie Ning felt the boy had a point.

So she "materialized" a dozen or so bags of various seeds out of thin air and scattered them over any empty plot she saw.

Watching from the side, Beichen was nearly stunned...

"You’re... wait, aren’t those medicinal herb seeds?"

"Are they?" Xie Ning hadn’t paid any attention. Back at the Su City seed market, she had scrounged up a huge number of seeds, figuring she’d plant a bit of everything, whether it was fruits or vegetables.

When she was scattering them, she hadn’t bothered to check what she was grabbing...

Xie Ning blinked, tied the bag of herbs tight, and cleared her throat. "That should be about enough."

Beichen rolled his eyes heavenward.

"You really don’t know how to farm!" he finally concluded.

Xie Ning couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation.

She had said from the very beginning that she didn’t know how to farm. Zhu Zihao had sent this "small" gift with such "heavy" sentiment; she simply had no choice but to accept it.

’What a hassle I’ve inherited,’ Xie Ning thought.

"Speaking of which, when Zhu Zihao captured you and brought you into this farmhouse space, his original intention was to make you his captive bride, wasn’t it?"

As soon as the matter was brought up, the youth’s fair, handsome face flushed beet red.

"Nothing happened, right?" Xie Ning turned her head, her big, round, inquisitive eyes staring at the youth.

"Did! Not!" Beichen slowly forced out the two words through clenched teeth.

"Good that nothing happened, that’s good." Xie Ning nodded, her tone comforting. "You don’t need to worry about it. I won’t tell anyone about this."

"I won’t tell anyone about your business either," Beichen said sullenly.

’This woman just wants a mutual pact of silence, doesn’t she? I get it! I totally get it!’

Xie Ning nodded. "During your time in Zhu Zihao’s space, did you notice anything else unusual about him?"

"He would often go behind the pigsty, sneaking around to check on something."

"A pigsty?" Xie Ning was surprised, her voice rising a few notches. "He was raising live animals and poultry in his space?"

"Mhm, it’s right over there."

Xie Ning hurried over to look and, sure enough, saw a large open area enclosed by a wooden fence, with many chickens, ducks, and geese inside.

To one side, there were also a dozen or so dairy cows, some sheep, and several litters of rabbits. It was practically an animal party.

Xie Ning stared, dumbfounded.

In front of the open area stood rows of supermarket-style shelves piled high with all sorts of things. Next to them were stacks of boxes and cabinets filled with goods. Xie Ning didn’t have time to check them one by one, hurrying to look at the cows, sheep, and rabbits instead.

She felt like her head was about to explode.

’How am I supposed to raise these things??’

"Where are the pigs?"

Beichen led her to the pigsty in the back.

That guy Zhu Zihao had actually built a sizable pigsty himself out of cement. A single glance revealed at least a hundred pigs rooting around inside.

It would be a lie to say she wasn’t shocked.

But the biggest shock was yet to come.

Behind the pigsty, Beichen showed her dozens of large, locked iron cabinets. Opening two of them revealed cases of firearms, bullets, and bombs—they had everything.

The two stared at each other blankly, their expressions somewhat wooden.

After looking through all the goodies in the iron cabinets, they walked back toward the pigsty in a daze and glanced at each other.

"What do you make of this?"

Beichen, still out of it, shook his head. "I don’t get it."

Xie Ning couldn’t figure it out either. Why would a Fourth-level Space Ability User with such a terrifyingly huge stockpile have been so determined to cause her trouble?

The two of them circled back to the wooden fence and walked through the rows of supermarket shelves, growing more and more shocked as they went.

’Did this guy Zhu Zihao move half a supermarket into his space?’

’With these kinds of supplies, forget about just him—it would be enough to support a team of a hundred people after the apocalypse, wouldn’t it?’

"Come look at this," Beichen called out in a low voice.

Xie Ning quickly rounded the rows of shelves and stopped in front of some glass food display cases.

There were at least a hundred of these glass-fronted display cases alone.

The food inside was so varied it was dizzying.

Xie Ning casually opened one of the cases and took out a container of xiaolongbao.

It was clearly the type of thing from before the apocalypse—takeout packaged by a shop, meant as a gift.

Next to it were dishes like sweet and sour fish, braised pork belly, and plum spare ribs, each packed in its own food container. There were nearly a hundred servings of each dish, and they were still piping hot when taken out.

"What do you think?"

"These must be freshly made dishes from a restaurant."

A smile flashed in Xie Ning’s eyes. "Obviously."

From this, it was clear that Zhu Zihao had chefs prepare all this food before the apocalypse began.

’He was someone who knew what the apocalypse would be like.’

Xie Ning almost threw her head back and laughed out loud.

To think that this Zhu Zihao was also a reincarnator! How else could one explain him preparing all this restaurant food before the apocalypse?

If he were like her, only starting to prepare after the apocalypse had begun, it would have been impossible to get so many containers of xiaolongbao!

’What shop would still be in the mood to make these for you after the apocalypse?’

What’s more, the sheer abundance and variety of the dishes and food before them was a real eye-opener.

Xie Ning suddenly understood Zhu Zihao’s final words.
