Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 291: The Pet Egg Commotion
After sorting all her cards, Perry Yates got ready to put the Pet Eggs up for sale.
But before she did, she set the Divine Beast Eggs aside.
"Are you planning to hatch these Divine Beast Eggs, Master?" the butler asked.
Perry Yates looked at the Divine Beast Eggs she had selected: three Dragon Eggs, one Phoenix Egg, one Vermilion Bird Egg, one Black Tortoise Egg, one White Tiger Egg, two Nine-tailed Fox Eggs, three Qilin Eggs, and one White Tiger Egg.
She hadn’t bothered to count them before, but she was shocked when she did. She had unknowingly collected thirteen Divine Beast Eggs.
And that wasn’t even including the few already-hatched pets from Anna Kane’s inheritance.
Perry Yates thought for a moment and said, "I’m definitely going to hatch them. The biggest problem is how to raise them once they’re hatched."
Although Perry Yates wasn’t short on money, she couldn’t afford to raise thirteen Divine Beasts all at once. Besides, she didn’t know how.
On top of that, Divine Beasts were Gold-Eater Beasts even more voracious than children, and their later stages of growth couldn’t be solved with money alone.
’No, wait. I think I *can* afford it.’
Perry Yates considered it carefully. She could hatch these Divine Beasts and raise them inside her dungeons, letting them grow up there.
Once they were strong enough, she could even place them in other dungeons to act as Guardian Beasts.
The more she thought about it, the more sense it made. Perry Yates placed the eggs into the incubator and started the hatching process.
The incubator was built from a blueprint she had brought out of the game, designed specifically for hatching Pet Eggs.
The higher the level of the Pet Egg, the longer the hatching time. A Divine Beast Egg, for example, required ten days, while ordinary Pet Eggs could take anywhere from an hour to several days.
Perry Yates didn’t actually hatch all the Divine Beast Eggs at once. Instead, she kept one Dragon Egg and one Qilin Egg to use as showpieces.
She placed them in a heated display case. The temperature inside would keep the Divine Beast Eggs from losing their viability, while also making the hatching process extremely slow.
After taking care of all that, Perry Yates listed the Pet Eggs for sale.
Meanwhile, in a spot against the wall on the first floor of The Card Tavern, a quiet change was taking place.
Not far away, a young man was carefully offering a piece of food to the Little Ferret.
This Little Ferret was, of course, the one Perry Yates had brought back from the Frostfell dungeon. It had been living in The Card Tavern ever since and had become everyone’s favorite pet.
Not a single player who came to The Card Tavern could resist the Little Ferret. And the Little Ferret, taking advantage of its cute face and fluffy fur, had eaten its way into becoming pleasingly plump.
The young man’s name was Jayce Finch. Ever since meeting the Little Ferret, he had dreamed of bringing back a pet of his own from the game.
Anything would do; it didn’t have to be a Ferret. After all, he had a natural love for all sorts of small creatures and dreamed of becoming a true Beast Master.
Unfortunately, after entering the game, neither his Talent nor his cards had anything to do with beast mastery.
"If the boss would allow it, I’d go bankrupt and sell myself into slavery just to take you home."
’This Little Ferret fulfilled all his fantasies about the perfect pet: it was smart, obedient, and could even understand human speech.’
Just then, the Little Ferret, which had been engrossed in its food, suddenly looked up at Jayce Finch. It then raised a fluffy little paw, gesturing for him to look behind himself.
"You want me to look behind me?"
Jayce Finch turned to look. The next second, his eyes went wide. ’I remember this spot didn’t look like this just a moment ago. When did it change?’
’Wait, are those Pet Eggs!’
Jayce Finch stared at the display cabinet that had appeared behind him, filled with Pet Eggs of all different colors and patterns.
Below each Pet Egg was a description of its species, as well as its price.
Of course, the most eye-catching were the two golden Pet Eggs on the top shelf. The labels below them identified the species as Dragon and Qilin, but no price was listed.
Seeing this, Jayce Finch even forgot to breathe. After a moment, he slowly stood up and walked toward the counter where the Pet Eggs were displayed, examining them one by one.
Aside from the Divine Beast Eggs, Perry Yates had divided the remaining Pet Eggs into three grades. First was Purple Grade: pets hatched from these had a high chance of possessing a Divine Beast bloodline. Next was the Blue Level, which contained Fierce Beast Eggs; these had a very small chance of hatching with a Divine Beast bloodline. Finally, there was Yellow Grade: these pets grew quickly, but had limited combat power and low growth potential.
Although Yellow Grade Pet Eggs had low growth potential and couldn’t compare to the other two, they were cheap. Almost any player could afford one, as they only cost ten one-star cards.
Blue Level Pet Eggs cost one hundred one-star cards, while Purple Grade Pet Eggs cost one thousand.
Moreover, pets hatched from these eggs could be brought into the game. This was equivalent to having a helper when you entered the game—a teammate who would never betray you.
After looking over all the Pet Eggs, Jayce Finch’s gaze lingered longingly on the Purple and Blue Level Pet Eggs.
With the cards he had on hand, he could only afford a Yellow Grade Pet Egg.
At this thought, Jayce Finch couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret.
Before, his main principle in the game had just been to survive. He never cared much about collecting cards, having an attitude of ’if I find them, I’ll take them; if not, no big deal.’
As a result, even after playing through several rounds of the game, he still didn’t have very many cards.
But it was too late for regrets now. His only option was to pick the most impressive-looking one from the Yellow Grade Pet Eggs before anyone else noticed them.
It was possible for Yellow Grade Pet Eggs to hatch a pet with a Vicious Beast or even a Divine Beast bloodline, but the probability was minuscule. Even if one did, the bloodline would be extremely diluted and difficult to awaken.
After Jayce Finch paid, a Little Panda (not an actual panda) doll suddenly walked out of the wall.
That’s right—it walked directly out of the wall, a big, fluffy tail trailing behind it and a cute smile on its face.
The Little Panda bowed slightly to Jayce Finch and said, "Dear customer, as the very first person to purchase a Pet Egg, you will receive the opportunity to choose any Blue Level Pet Egg, free of charge. Furthermore, we can hatch it for you for free."
Hearing the Little Panda’s words, Jayce Finch didn’t even stop to wonder why a talking doll had suddenly appeared. His mind was completely filled with a single thought: a free Blue Level Pet Egg.
’Those are Fierce Beast Eggs! If I’m lucky, I might even hatch a Vicious Beast with a Divine Beast bloodline!’
Without any hesitation, Jayce Finch pointed to a Blue Level Pet Egg he had already been eyeing. "I want that one."
