Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 289: Highway Survival 21
Seeing this, Perry Yates’s eyes lit up. It looked like she had a place to stay for the next few days.
’But I should check the price first. After all, this repair station charges by the hour.’
Perry Yates did a quick calculation. Today was the twenty-fifth day of the game. There were less than ten hours left until the next day, and five days remaining until the game’s end.
A day was twenty-four hours. Multiplied by five, that was one hundred and twenty hours. Adding the remaining ten hours from today, that made a total of one hundred and thirty hours.
In other words, she needed to prepare one hundred and thirty portions of supplies.
’I should go in and take a look first.’
Just as Perry Yates’s car entered the repair station, a sign appeared before her.
The sign read:
[All vehicles entering the repair station must pay a toll of one liter of clean drinking water or one pound of food. If you have neither, other items or props may be substituted.]
After reading the notice, Perry Yates couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. ’So it’s just food and water. I can definitely afford that.’
Just as she was about to move on, Perry Yates’s sharp eyes noticed another line of small print at the very bottom, the kind most people wouldn’t see unless they looked closely.
[One portion of supplies allows you to stay in the repair station for one hour. Any duration less than an hour will be rounded up to one hour. If you wish to stay for an extended period, please be sure to pay with sufficient supplies in advance.
Anyone who overstays their time will face the station master’s most severe punishment.]
At that moment, something that looked like a chimney made of red bricks appeared in front of Perry Yates. An arrow was displayed above it. ’This must be to show me where to put the supplies,’ she thought.
Perry Yates thought for a moment and took out her water canteen.
Then, she took out a measuring cup with a one-liter capacity.
After filling it with one liter of water, Perry Yates poured the water into the chimney. The next second, something resembling a watch appeared on her wrist. It wasn’t a real watch, however, but a countdown timer.
The number displayed on it was fifty-nine minutes; the countdown had already begun.
’Looks like my guess was right.’
After that, Perry Yates began pouring water directly from her canteen into the chimney. The number on the watch started to rise rapidly until it reached one hundred and thirty-five, at which point she finally stopped pouring.
The extra time was a safety buffer Perry Yates had left for herself. ’What if something unexpected happens?’
After finishing all this, Perry Yates watched as her car slowly drove into the main area of the repair station.
Several vehicles of different designs were already parked inside.
Around these vehicles, several staff members were busy performing maintenance.
The owners of the vehicles, meanwhile, stood to the side, bossing the staff around like they owned the place and urging them to work faster, and then even faster.
After Perry Yates parked her car, a staff member immediately walked over and asked her, "How may I help you?"
Hearing this, Perry Yates thought for a moment before replying, "I don’t need any help. I’d like to stay here for a few days. Can I just leave my car parked here?"
The staff member was clearly taken aback by her words. "You can certainly leave it parked here, but are you sure you want to do that? Our rates are very expensive."
"It’s fine. I’ve already paid."
As she spoke, Perry Yates showed him her wristband, which displayed a full one hundred and thirty-five hours and fifty-six minutes.
The staff member sucked in a sharp breath when he saw the number, and the way he looked at Perry Yates completely changed.
"If you need anything at all during your stay, please just call for me. I’ll be nearby and will come at once if I hear you."
Perry Yates smiled and said, "Thank you. By the way, it’s completely safe here at night, right? Nothing dangerous will show up?"
"You can rest assured on that point. Our repair station is absolutely safe. You won’t encounter any danger here. I swear it on my career."
"That’s good, that’s good." Perry Yates nodded. ’Looks like I’ll be able to get through the next few days safely.’
Perry Yates expanded the interior space of her vehicle again and then let out all her dolls.
Although they couldn’t leave the vehicle, there was enough space for them to move around inside.
As for Perry Yates, she first organized all the loot she had acquired recently and then began the Ascension of her cards.
She had already decided to manifest this game instance into reality, but whether to use a three-star, four-star, or five-star card for it was a decision she’d have to make based on the situation after she got out.
If, as Perry Yates predicted, this instance could continuously spawn pets, then she would need a five-star card to anchor it. She needed this instance to constantly produce pets for her, just like the Giant Creatures game instance continuously produced Emperor’s Liquid for her.
(I forgot to mention it was six-star earlier, and now the Chapter is locked so I can’t edit it.)
’Wait a minute, it seems like the things inside the Giant Creatures instance can also be tamed. The difficulty might just be a bit higher.’
’Whatever, I’ll think about these things after I get back.’
Perry Yates continued to Ascend her cards, and soon, the twenty-sixth day of the game arrived.
As expected, nothing happened last night.
Although she hadn’t slept well last night while waiting to confirm the results, Perry Yates was incredibly excited.
’Not bad, not bad at all. The hundred-plus liters of water were totally worth it.’
With her worries assuaged, Perry Yates began to focus all her energy on the Ascension of her cards.
Her speed at Ascending cards was now countless times faster than when she had first started.
In the beginning, Ascending a single one-star card would completely exhaust her. Now, she could Ascend a card to four-star in one go and still have energy to spare.
Moreover, she hadn’t been idle. Since the game began, whenever she wasn’t driving, she was working. She now had seven five-star cards, and including the ones from her inheritance, she possessed a total of nine five-star cards.
With just one more, she would be able to control another instance completely.
’Sigh... It’s just a shame I lost a five-star Skill Card during this game,’ she thought.
This was simply the biggest loss Perry Yates had suffered in all her time playing the game. Her heart ached every time she thought about it.
’That was a five-star card, and a fused one at that.’ Perry Yates felt she might never be able to obtain another card with the same abilities again.
Perry Yates looked at the bracelet on her wrist, sighed, and took it off. ’This thing is useless now. I’d better take it off, so seeing it doesn’t keep reminding me of the card.’
「The twenty-seventh day of the game.」
Vera Vance delivered the promised dolls to Perry Yates.
Looking at the dolls this time, she saw they were humanoid, each holding a weapon. They were all both cute and exquisitely crafted.
’You can tell Vera Vance put a lot of effort into these,’ Perry thought. ’She probably wants to leave a good impression on me.’
After all, it was obvious at a glance that Perry Yates wasn’t short on supplies. Becoming friends with her would bring many benefits and no downsides.
