Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 280: Highway Survival 12
Thanks to the prey her little dolls hunted every night, she could now exchange them for a considerable amount of supplies each day.
Some players had even contacted her, trying to persuade her to form a monopoly with them.
If Perry Yates were just an ordinary player, she might have agreed. After all, everyone hates the rich, but everyone also wants to be rich. A pity, then, that she wasn’t.
So, she turned the person down.
After being rejected, the man flew into a rage, even threatening to find her and make her pay.
Perry Yates didn’t take his words to heart.
After all, they were on a one-way highway, and encounters were purely a matter of luck.
Just then, a harsh screech of brakes sounded from behind her.
Perry Yates turned to look and saw a black SUV parked a short distance away.
The door was flung open, and three people stepped out. The man in the lead was only about five feet three inches tall, fat, and bald, with a round head and a gold tooth—the very picture of a nouveau riche.
Behind him stood two bodyguards in suits and sunglasses. Both were about five feet eleven, but they projected an aura twice that size.
Looking at the three menacing figures, Perry Yates’s intuition told her they were here for trouble.
She waved a hand to put away the things in front of her, then stood up, ready for a fight.
When the bald man saw Perry Yates’s action, a flash of greed and ruthlessness crossed his narrow, triangular eyes.
"So you’re the one who refused my offer to cooperate. I didn’t think you’d be a little brat who’s barely a woman. No wonder you’re so shortsighted. How about this: if you hand over all your supplies, I’ll give you the chance to follow me."
As he spoke, the bald man glanced at Perry Yates’s vehicle, his disdain unconcealed. ’Women,’ he thought. ’Always choosing beautiful, useless junk’.
After listening to his self-introduction, Perry Yates understood who he was. He was the player who had messaged her yesterday, wanting to partner up and monopolize the entire meat market.
Putting aside the fact that Perry Yates had no interest in the idea, she wouldn’t have worked with this man even if she did. The reason was simple: he was all talk, wanting to order her around while he did nothing and reaped all the benefits.
’As if there was ever such a sweet deal in the world,’ she thought.
"I suggest you leave right now," Perry Yates said.
Hearing this, the fat man laughed disdainfully. "Leave? And what if I don’t? You going to hit me?"
From the moment he’d seen Perry Yates, he had never taken the young woman, who looked to be in her early twenties, seriously.
"Me? You’re not worthy of my attention," Perry Yates said coolly.
At that moment, the door to Perry Yates’s car slowly opened. Little Panda then led several other small dolls as they jumped out menacingly and ran over.
After confirming that Perry Yates was unharmed, they all spun around and glared viciously at the fat man and his two companions.
However, being small dolls, they looked completely harmless to the fat man, despite their seething rage.
"You think you can beat me with a few raggedy dolls? Are you trying to kill me with laughter?" the fat man scoffed.
"Little Panda, show them what you can do!"
Upon receiving Perry Yates’s command, the small dolls sprang into action, deftly swarming the fat man.
Little Panda slammed its fluffy paws into the fat man’s stomach.
Don’t be fooled by the dolls’ small size; their strength was anything but small.
Perry Yates had tested it before. As the dolls consumed candy and time went on, their power—especially that of the animal dolls—grew closer to that of their real-life counterparts.
Take Little Panda, for instance. Its prototype was a panda—a national treasure, and a bear. The strength of a bear speaks for itself.
Another doll, on the other hand, was an actual red panda, and its strength was nowhere near that of the giant panda.
Besides the animal dolls, there were the alphabet dolls. Their hands and feet were black and very thin, but their strength was comparable to that of a full-grown adult.
Underestimating the attack, the bald man didn’t bother to dodge the incoming punch. As a result, his body was sent flying like a slab of fat.
With the bald man dealt with, the two remaining bodyguards didn’t fare any better.
They were only human, after all. A bit stronger than average, perhaps, but they were quickly overwhelmed by the onslaught of ferocious beasts. Like their boss, they were beaten and left unconscious on the ground.
Perry Yates tied the three of them up and left them by the side of the road, then walked toward the SUV.
Opening the car door revealed an interior so spacious it felt like stepping into a ballroom.
"Whoa, this place is gorgeous!" the little dolls cried out in amazement.
"It’s beautiful, but I still prefer our vehicle," a golden Little Lion doll said, trying to curry favor.
Perry Yates, however, was thinking something else. ’With this much space, there must be a ton of supplies inside.’
Then, Perry Yates and her troop of dolls began to search the vehicle.
They opened one room at random and found it piled high with all sorts of supplies.
They checked another room. It was also piled high with supplies.
After opening several rooms in a row, they found the situation was much the same: each was crammed with supplies. Among them, Perry Yates discovered something she’d never found in a supply box before: fabric. All kinds of it.
She had previously contacted Vera Vance to ask her to keep making dolls for her—not for free, of course.
Aside from collecting Pet Eggs, the thing Perry Yates wanted most right now was more dolls. After all, having seen how formidable these little things were, who wouldn’t want more?
But Vera Vance had refused, saying she didn’t have enough materials.
Perry learned from Vera Vance that she used to get all her fabric by trading with another player. But then something must have happened, as she was never able to contact that player again. They had most likely kicked the bucket.
Vera Vance had told her that if she could find the fabric, she would help make the dolls, but she would charge a fifty-percent crafting fee. After all, her handiwork was expensive, and she still had to imbue the dolls with life.
Vera Vance had also asked Perry Yates why she wanted so many dolls.
She couldn’t tell her the real reason, of course, so she just vaguely said that the dolls had a high turnover rate.
’Looking at this room full of fabric,’ she thought, ’I should be able to make quite a few new dolls.’
Perry Yates raised her hand, collecting everything in the room, and then moved on to the next one.
