Chapter 178: Chapter 118: Support

In the few seconds Xu Mo paused to observe, over a dozen more zombies swarmed around him. The fastest among them were already lunging.

"Irritating."

Annoyed that he hadn’t found the Sharp Sword team, Xu Mo swung his Triangular Spike as the zombies lunged at him, spinning his body and tapping each of their foreheads.

The zombies, which had been roaring and lunging, suddenly froze. Then, as if all their strength had vanished, they collapsed limply and fell silent.

It looked like a mere tap, but the Triangular Spike had actually pierced straight through their skulls. Xu Mo was just so fast that a mixture of red and white matter only began to ooze from their foreheads after they had already fallen.

Without a glance at the fallen zombies, Xu Mo flicked his Triangular Spike to shake off non-existent blood. His sharp gaze locked onto a specific direction—the one where corrosive marks and jumbled footprints led, and the same direction the horde seemed to be agitatedly moving toward.

He delayed no longer, pushing off the ground and shooting forward like an arrow loosed from its bow. After taking just two steps, Xu Mo suddenly felt something and looked back, giving a casual wave toward one of the observation ports on Fortress D-10 as a greeting.

’Just as I was about to go after the Sharp Sword team, I suddenly got the feeling I was being watched. It must be the Observer from D-10. They probably heard the commotion, looked this way, and saw me.’

Inside Fortress D-10, Observer Wang Meng was indeed pressed against the observation port, his heart pounding so hard it felt like it would leap out of his throat. ’What did I just see?!’

A mysterious figure with a covered face and black combat gear had effortlessly and instantly killed over a dozen zombies that surrounded him, as if he were slicing through vegetables. The fluidity of his movements and his sheer efficiency far surpassed anyone he had ever seen.

’With that kind of combat power, he could probably rescue the Sharp Sword team all by himself!’

"A-02! A-02! This is D-10!" Wang Meng excitedly grabbed his radio, his voice cracking with excitement. "Report! A mysterious individual, suspected to be a high-level Superpower User, has appeared! He just cleared a horde outside my fortress, killing over a dozen zombies in the span of a single breath! He’s incredibly strong! He’s now heading in the direction the ’Sharp Sword’ team retreated!"

Wang Meng reported the astonishing scene he had just witnessed at a rapid-fire pace, placing special emphasis on the man’s inhuman killing efficiency. In his mind, this had to be a high-level Superpower User sent by Jiang City.

Almost instantly, the encrypted channel exploded with activity. The other Observers, who had been listening anxiously but were powerless to help, felt as if they’d been given a shot of adrenaline.

"That’s great! We finally have support!"

"Which squad is it? They’re so fast!"

"Is it a secretly deployed expert?"

"There’s hope! ’Sharp Sword’ has a chance!"

Amid the brief, excited chatter, A-02’s steady voice finally cut in. Instead of directly responding to D-10’s report, they first checked on ’Sharp Sword’s’ status: "’Sharp Sword’ team, please confirm if you have observed support personnel."

The voice of Lu Chuan, the ’Sharp Sword’ team captain, came over the encrypted channel, laced with panting. "Reinforcements? Roger that!"

Xu Mo, of course, couldn’t hear the conversation on the channel. At that moment, he was in hot pursuit.

Perhaps because Lu Chuan’s team was drawing most of the attention up ahead, his path was surprisingly clear. Only a few stray zombies tried to intercept him, but they were left far behind without even touching the hem of his clothes.

Xu Mo sprinted for several more minutes, passed through a patch of ruined buildings, and the scene before him changed abruptly. A dense, dark mass of at least a hundred ordinary zombies was gathered together, roaring and shuffling forward in the same direction as if drawn by an invisible magnet.

From ahead of the moving horde, he could faintly hear the sharp clang of weapons, the dull boom of Superpowers being unleashed, and the suppressed roars of humans.

The horde’s attention was completely captivated by the "main course" up ahead, and they paid no mind to Xu Mo approaching from behind.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Xu Mo immediately chose to flank them, using the ruined terrain to quickly bypass the massive horde of ordinary zombies.

As he moved past the front of the horde, his gaze clearing the wrecks of several abandoned trucks, the battle up ahead finally came into sharp focus.

In the center of a relatively open intersection, five figures were locked in a desperate struggle.

They all wore the standard-issue, dark gray combat uniforms of the Jiang City Shelter, but they wielded an assortment of Cold Weapons—a long saber, a short axe, and even a metal baton that flickered with faint sparks of electricity.

They were currently being besieged by six Tier-1 zombies. Four of them were swift as the wind, constantly harassing the team from all sides—these were Agile Zombies. The other two were massive, their arms mutated into huge bone hammers or sharp claws. Every strike whistled through the air, forcing the team to constantly dodge and block. These were Strength Zombies.

The five were clearly all Superpower Users, their movements and reflexes far exceeding those of ordinary people. Their teamwork was decent, but under the frenzied assault of the six Tier-1 zombies, they were barely holding on, facing one close call after another.

Xu Mo saw at a glance that a motionless young man was lying on the ground behind the five fighters. A large patch on the chest of his combat uniform was corroded, revealing a bloody, mangled mess beneath. This was clearly "Zhou," the one who had been reported as injured in the earlier transmission. His chances of survival looked slim.

But for some reason, as Xu Mo watched them fight, he couldn’t shake a strange feeling, almost an illusion. ’These Superpower Users... they seem a little weak.’
