Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 639 - 629: Zombie 24
Once they were sure Shane Rhodes and the others had left the forest and reached a safe place, Moira Lynch and Kai York sped up their flight, raising their altitude significantly.
Only after they had climbed several hundred meters into the sky did the two tigers finally stop their pursuit.
Kai York rubbed the goosebumps that had popped up on his skin from the cold, his voice trembling slightly. "It’s freezing. How are you not reacting at all?"
"You forgot. I’ve eaten Ice Chestnuts, so I’m immune to the cold," Moira Lynch said.
"Oh, right. My brain stops working when the temperature drops. Looks like those two tigers aren’t chasing us anymore. Let’s go down."
After confirming the two tigers had left, Moira Lynch and Kai York flew toward the location where Shane Rhodes and the others were waiting.
On the way back, Moira Lynch suddenly said, "How about I send you and Shane Rhodes to Snow-White Star for a few days when we get back?"
"Snow-White Star? You want us to look for Ice Chestnuts? Sure. Immunity to low temperatures is definitely pretty important."
A few minutes later, the two found the rest of the group, who had already left the forest and descended the mountain.
When Mark Rhodes saw the two of them return safe and sound, he couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
As someone who had fought the two tigers before, Mark Rhodes knew just how tenacious they were.
Kai York took out the Five-Grain Rice he had found.
"This is it! This is it!!"
Mark Rhodes was overcome with excitement when he saw the Five-Grain Rice in his hands. With this, they could start farming again.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch also took out the Five-color rice she had found and gave a detailed explanation of how to eat it, leaving the others completely dumbfounded.
However, when they heard that the Five-color rice could cure illnesses, the expressions on the faces of Mark Rhodes and the others turned incredibly serious.
They had originally thought they would have to spend several days in the forest, but they had completed their mission so quickly.
Even as they sat in the vehicle heading back to the base, Mark Rhodes and his team were still in a daze.
This was the easiest mission they had ever undertaken. The whole trip was basically a cakewalk.
On the way back, Moira Lynch suddenly sensed that something was wrong.
"Something’s wrong. Speed up. We’d better get back to the base quickly." It wasn’t Moira Lynch who spoke, but Kai York.
He stuck his hand outside, feeling the change in wind speed. "Something is gathering."
"Zombies," Moira Lynch added. "A huge wave of zombies is heading this way. If I’m not mistaken, their target is probably the base. We’d better get back as fast as we can and prepare."
Hearing Moira Lynch’s words, the faces of Mark Rhodes and another team member in the vehicle instantly changed. The joy of finding the Five-Grain Rice and Five-color rice vanished in an instant.
A zombie siege. They had experienced this before, and each time, it resulted in massive casualties for the base.
The base had only just managed to stabilize. If this was truly a zombie siege, there was no doubt that the newly stabilized base would suffer a devastating blow.
At that moment, Mark Rhodes suddenly looked at Moira Lynch and her group, his eyes filled with a pleading expression.
"Could you possibly..."
’The power of these four people is undeniable. The lightning that had instantly killed three wild boars in the forest, and the fact that Kai York and Moira Lynch had dared to lure away the tigers by themselves.’
’If I hadn’t told them not to harm the two tigers, maybe those tigers wouldn’t have even been a match for Kai York alone.’
’And now, they had sensed something was wrong long before anyone else had noticed a thing.’
’If these people helped, maybe the base’s losses would be much smaller.’
"Don’t worry. Since we’ve come to this base, we won’t stand by and do nothing," Shane Rhodes said.
Shane Rhodes’s words made Mark Rhodes let out a breath of relief.
Seeing his reaction, Moira Lynch said, "However, this zombie horde is massive, at least a million strong. Even if the few of us give it our all, we can’t possibly stop all of them. You still need to make your own preparations."
"A million!"
Hearing that number, Mark Rhodes sucked in a sharp breath.
"Besides, you should know, we don’t have much time left."
Once their game time was up, they would be directly teleported out of this world.
Mark Rhodes had clearly thought of this as well.
Faced with such an urgent situation, Mark Rhodes slammed on the accelerator, racing recklessly toward the base. He cut the originally day-long journey in half, making it back in just half a day.
As soon as he returned to the base, without any delay, Mark Rhodes found his father and told him about the zombie horde.
When Mr. Rhodes heard Mark Rhodes talk about the zombie horde, he didn’t question it, but chose to believe him. After all, something like this was no joke. It was better to be safe than sorry.
After speaking with his father, Mark Rhodes got a large number of Crystal Cores from him and went to the residence of Moira Lynch’s group.
The moment he walked through the door, Mark Rhodes found Moira Lynch and got straight to the point. "Crystal Cores are not a problem. How many Awakening Potions can you give me right now?"
Seeing Mark Rhodes’s serious expression, Moira Lynch’s heart was touched. She thought for a moment and said, "I can provide you with two hundred thousand Awakening Potions. As for the Crystal Cores, forget it. Consider it a gesture of goodwill, since we’re all human."
’Two hundred thousand Awakening Potions are nothing to me. I can make them in ten days. If I push myself, it won’t even take that long.’
Hearing that Moira Lynch was willing to produce two hundred thousand Awakening Potions at once, Mark Rhodes was filled with an indescribable mix of emotions: shock, gratitude, and even a little guilt.
"Thank you. Also, there’s another favor I’d like to ask."
Mark Rhodes opened his mouth, then hesitated. ’I just got two hundred thousand Awakening Potions from them, and now I’m making another request. I’m really pushing my luck.’
But after struggling with himself for a while, he decided to speak up. After all, this was no time to be concerned about saving face.
"What favor?" Shane Rhodes asked.
As people whose own homes had also suffered an apocalypse, Moira Lynch, Shane Rhodes, Kai York, and Hugh Finch were actually very sympathetic toward Mark Rhodes, so they weren’t put off by his subsequent request.
"You know that even with these two hundred thousand Awakening Potions, the superpowers of the newly awakened are still relatively weak. They’re fine against regular zombies, but once they run into high-level ones, they’ll be powerless. That’s why I’d like to ask for your help in hunting the high-level zombies in the horde.
Also, based on past experience, there’s always a highest-level zombie leader in a horde. As long as we can take out that leader, the remaining zombies will slowly disperse.
However, the zombies that become leaders are extremely cunning. They’re good at disguising themselves and are very hard to find," Mark Rhodes said.
