Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 594 - 584: Sound Source Pollution 36
Meanwhile, in Portmire.
Gunshots rang out from all directions.
And the targets of the attack were three monsters.
However, while bullets could harm the monsters, the damage was minimal. The creatures could repel the projectiles with the sonic waves they produced.
Even so, the survivors refused to give up.
They had to endure the futility of their efforts while also facing the devastating sonic attacks from the monsters.
Just then, a ricocheting bullet suddenly struck one of the survivors.
The person let out a stifled grunt and collapsed.
Seeing this, someone nearby immediately helped the injured person to the rear, handing them over to the logistics team for treatment. This team was composed entirely of survivors with Healing-type talents or those whose talents had little combat potential.
However, there were far too many wounded; the medics were completely overwhelmed.
Watching more and more people get hurt, some couldn’t help but think despairingly, ’Can we really survive this disaster?’
Not long ago, they had been smugly celebrating their ability to kill the monsters.
But that joy didn’t last long. The monsters underwent a second evolution.
To withstand their attacks, the monsters’ skin had become tougher and their speed had increased.
Just as their ammunition was about to run out, three sounds echoed from the distance: SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!
Immediately after, three arrows flew through the air and pierced the three monsters in an instant.
However, the monsters’ Life Energy was incredibly potent. Even with their heads pierced, they acted as if nothing had happened.
The next second, however, the arrows embedded in their heads exploded.
The three monsters that so many people couldn’t kill were dispatched with ease by three arrows that had come from nowhere.
Nearly everyone turned to look in the direction the arrows had come from.
On the rooftop of a nearby building, a mysterious figure in a black jacket, mask, and sunglasses slowly lowered a longbow.
After stowing her bow, Moira Lynch took a light leap, clearing the railing and plummeting toward the ground below.
This scene terrified many of the onlookers. The building Moira Lynch had just jumped from was a full thirty stories high.
If an ordinary person had fallen from that height, there probably wouldn’t be a single unbroken bone left in their body.
And yet, as they watched, Moira Lynch descended like a feather, landing softly on the ground.
If one had to use a single word to describe the scene, it would be "elegant."
Just then, Hugh Finch and Barry Wallace also emerged from the building.
Hugh Finch walked over to the dead monsters.
The force of the explosions had been too great; the monsters’ bodies were blown to pieces, leaving nothing of value to study.
"Try not to be so heavy-handed next time," Hugh Finch said.
Hearing this, Moira Lynch stuck her tongue out at him and muttered under her breath, "Me, heavy-handed? At least I left a body. You don’t even leave that."
At this point, the other survivors began to gather around.
They watched the trio warily.
Suddenly, Barry Wallace spotted someone in the crowd and became instantly excited. "President, you’re alive!"
Muffled by his protective suit, Barry Wallace’s voice was unclear, and Wyatt Lewis didn’t recognize it at first.
"Who are you?" Howard Chambers asked.
"You don’t remember me? It’s me, Barry Wallace."
Barry Wallace removed his disguise, opening the faceplate of his protective suit to reveal an honest, harmless-looking face.
Barry Wallace was a well-known figure at school, if for no other reason than his memorable name.
As the student council president, Wyatt Lewis naturally remembered who he was.
After the two schoolmates recognized each other, Wyatt Lewis’s attention quickly turned to the other two people.
"Are they students too? Why don’t they take off their masks and sunglasses?"
Before the other two could speak, Barry Wallace cut in. "President, they’re not our classmates. They’re friends I knew from before, but both of them are severe germaphobes, so..."
Barry Wallace gave him a meaningful look.
Their school once had a teacher with extreme mysophobia, and being in his class was absolute torture.
In that teacher’s class, you could be a bad student, you could even not pay attention, but you absolutely could not be unclean.
Girls couldn’t wear makeup or perfume, boys couldn’t smell of sweat, and he would even inspect their fingernails.
So, upon hearing Barry Wallace say the two were severe germaphobes, Wyatt Lewis subconsciously took a step back.
"Then they..."
"Don’t worry, President. It’s a personal thing, it doesn’t apply to others. Just don’t ask them to take off their masks and sunglasses."
"Alright, then."
Moira Lynch was very satisfied with Barry Wallace’s performance.
"Nicely done."
Hearing the voice in his head, Barry Wallace thought back, ’Don’t forget what you promised me.’
’I won’t forget. As long as you help us keep our secret and don’t reveal our identities to anyone else, we’ll provide you with some Awakening Potions after we leave.’
Just then, Wyatt Lewis walked over, offering the pair a friendly smile. "Hello, my name is Wyatt Lewis. I’m the leader of the survivors here. Welcome."
Moira Lynch nodded and gave her name as well.
"Moira Lynch."
"Hugh Finch."
After these brief introductions, Wyatt Lewis asked, "Moira Lynch, can I ask how you killed those monsters just now?"
After all, their firearms had been completely blocked by those monsters—they couldn’t even get close. Yet she had killed them with just three arrows.
Wyatt Lewis’s gaze fell on the space behind Moira Lynch.
The longbow was nowhere to be seen.
"That’s my Talent Ability. You all should have awakened talents as well, right? With enough practice, you can do it too."
Hearing that what Moira Lynch had just used was a talent, everyone present showed expressions of disbelief.
"Our talents are weak. They can’t hurt those monsters at all. Can you tell us how we can become as strong as you?"
Faced with their pleading gazes, Moira Lynch was in a difficult position. After all, becoming stronger was easier said than done, and she didn’t know how to explain it.
Fortunately, Hugh Finch stepped in to help her out.
"We’ve already told Barry Wallace the training method. If you want to learn, go ask him."
Barry Wallace, whose name had been suddenly dropped, looked completely baffled.
’Handed over to me? Why am I the last to know?’
Just as he was about to object, Moira Lynch had already transmitted the meditation method into his mind.
