Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging

Chapter 493 - 483: Dindalon and Cheese Grass 6

It’s a well-known fact that when people are starving, they’re capable of anything.

Humans are at least constrained by morals and psychological barriers, but Qianren had none. Its only thought was to fill its stomach by any means necessary.

It seemed there was only one option left.

Moira Lynch took a lighter out of her spatial storage.

She didn’t want to do this. After all, she’d heard the saying: "Start a wildfire, spend your life in jail."

But aside from this, she couldn’t think of a better way.

No matter how formidable Qianren was, it was still a plant. And all plants feared fire.

’Besides, there’s water all around. Even if a fire does start, it shouldn’t get too serious... right?’

Just as Moira was hesitating about whether to act, she suddenly sensed a group of people approaching.

Seeing this, Moira Lynch put the lighter away, held her breath, and completely concealed herself.

After a short while, a group of five—three men and two women—walked over, fully armed.

Judging by their hair color, they were probably all foreigners.

Their equipment was highly professional, and the aura they gave off was very different from that of ordinary players.

’Soldiers? Or mercenaries?’

Moira Lynch thought the latter was more likely.

Just then, one of them seemed to sense something and suddenly looked toward Moira’s position, but saw nothing.

"Find something?"

Another person noticed his movement and turned to ask.

"I felt like a pair of eyes was watching us just now, but when I turned, I didn’t see anything."

"Maybe you just saw things. You’re too tense. It’s still pretty safe here during the day, not as dangerous as at night."

Based on their conversation, Moira got a rough idea of their identities.

These five people were mercenaries with extraordinary skills before the apocalypse. They were stateless individuals who would do anything for money.

After the game descended, they were lucky enough to become players, and with their inherent advantages, they quickly pulled far ahead of all the other players.

The fact that these people could survive last night’s conditions unscathed was enough to prove just how terrifying their combat prowess was.

’I just wonder if they can handle Qianren.’

’Perhaps I can let them fight it out and then swoop in to claim the spoils.’

With that thought, Moira Lynch watched as the group stepped into Qianren’s attack range. In an instant, countless white spikes erupted from Qianren’s body and shot toward them.

Since she already knew about Qianren’s condition, the scene reminded Moira of someone starved for ten days suddenly seeing a platter of braised pork knuckles appear before them—a descent into an inescapable frenzy.

The attack was sudden, but those people were clearly no pushovers.

One of them reacted extremely quickly. With a wave of his hand, rock walls suddenly rose from all sides, enclosing everyone and blocking Qianren’s first attack.

However, faced with food that had served itself up on a platter, Qianren was clearly not going to give up easily.

Countless white spikes attacked relentlessly, moving so fast they became blurs.

Under this frequent assault, even the sturdiest rock began to crumble.

Sure enough, the rock walls didn’t last long before they were completely shattered by Qianren’s attacks.

But the group clearly had no intention of just sitting there and waiting to die. Their teamwork was seamless—they had defense, support, and offense.

The group coordinated with each other, and for a time, they were actually locked in a fierce battle with Qianren.

Many of Qianren’s white spikes were even snapped.

Seeing this, Moira quietly left her hiding spot, swapping her original leaf Flying Device for a white cloud Flying Device, and furtively prepared to slip away.

Perhaps the battle was occupying too much of Qianren’s attention, because this time, Moira actually wasn’t discovered.

This discovery was a pleasant surprise for Moira, and she couldn’t help but quicken her pace. After all, she didn’t know how long those people could hold out, so it was better for her to move faster.

As for them defeating Qianren... to be honest, Moira felt the chances were slim.

As she passed by Qianren, Moira saw many of its broken white spikes on the ground.

At that moment, Patience suddenly let out a sharp burst of sound.

[Master! Master! Hurry and collect all of these! They’re good stuff! The older a Qianren spike is, the more valuable it becomes!]

"Now’s not the time."

Moira said, quickening her pace, but she mentally marked the location.

After about five minutes, Moira Lynch finally stopped running.

"This far should be safe, right?"

Looking at Qianren, which had become a tiny speck in the distance, Moira couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

She turned to continue toward the Dada Ducks’ territory. Before that, though, she hadn’t forgotten about the spikes she’d seen earlier.

"There are a lot of these spikes. You keep some and use the rest to complete the mission. Oh, right, don’t raise my adventurer rank for now. I remember that once you reach B-rank, you have to go to The Adventurer’s Guild in person for certification."

[Yes, that’s to prevent impersonation. There was an incident before where a C-rank adventurer discovered he looked very similar to an A-rank adventurer. He plotted to kill the A-rank adventurer and successfully took his identity, but he was found out eight months later. That’s why this rule was added.]

"Okay, I get it. I don’t plan on raising my adventurer rank for now anyway. You can just decide what to do with these Qianren spikes for the time being."

After giving her instructions, Moira Lynch continued on her way.

After several more hours of arduous travel, Moira finally arrived at the territory of the Dada Ducks.

It was a boundless pond, with enormous lotus leaves visible on the water’s surface.

Before entering the pond, Moira didn’t forget to take out the piece of equipment that could disguise her as a Dindalon.

The moment she put on the pendant, there was a POOF! of white smoke, and a chubby, fluffy, cream-colored hamster appeared.

However, the cream-colored hamster Moira had disguised herself as was significantly larger than a real hamster.

Moira Lynch tried to move her new limbs, feeling a bit awkward.

’What can I even do with limbs this short? Probably just hold a sunflower seed and nibble on it.’

’Whatever, I should just hurry up and finish the mission.’

After a short while of adapting, Moira was finally able to use her new body proficiently.
