Chapter 249: Chapter 249: Lu Tingting Scores Big Points

After dinner, Lin Jianfeng drove Lu Tingting back to the Military District Courtyard first.

Once they arrived at the Military District Courtyard, Lu Tingting politely bid farewell to Lin Jianfeng and Meng Wei.

"Sister Weiwei, Brother Lin, goodbye. And about that manuscript, Brother Lin, please take a good look at it."

Lin Jianfeng nodded. "Alright."

After Lu Tingting got out of the car, Lin Jianfeng continued driving Meng Wei home.

On the way, Meng Wei couldn’t help but bring up Lu Tingting. "Sorry for the trouble today. Tingting can be childish and doesn’t think things through."

Today was supposed to be their date, but Lu Tingting had been clueless enough to tag along, leaving Meng Wei speechless.

Lin Jianfeng smiled. "It’s fine. It’s more lively with an extra person. It’s a good thing Tingting was there, or we wouldn’t have been able to finish all the food we ordered tonight."

Seeing that Lin Jianfeng didn’t mind, Meng Wei secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

She then brought up the manuscript again. "Tingting probably just scribbled that for fun. It’s not worth anything. You can give it to me later, and I’ll return it to her for you in a couple of days."

"No need. Since I promised her, there’s no harm in taking a look."

When it came to professional matters, Lin Jianfeng was a man of principle.

Meng Wei truly didn’t believe Lu Tingting could write anything that would catch Lin Jianfeng’s eye. She assumed he was only willing to spend time on it out of consideration for her, and a sweet feeling bloomed in her heart.

She held a very favorable impression of Lin Jianfeng.

Lin Jianfeng was outstanding in every way—looks, education, and ability. He was a perfect match for her.

Back home, Mrs. Lin cheerfully greeted her son. "How did dinner with Meng Wei go today? Did you two get along well?"

Lin Jianfeng nodded and replied, "It went well."

Hearing this, Mrs. Lin was very happy.

Her son was wonderful in every way; his marriage was her one constant worry.

After Lin Jianfeng sat down, Mr. Lin brought up the matter of marriage with the Meng family. "If you have no objections, we’ll go to the Meng family another day and settle the engagement between you and Meng Wei..."

「The Meng Residence」

Mrs. Meng was also talking to her daughter about the engagement. "The Lin Family wants to arrange the engagement for you and young Lin first. After all, you’re both not getting any younger."

Meng Wei replied, "Okay, I have no objections."

Hearing her daughter agree, Mrs. Meng was greatly relieved.

Her daughter had agreed to get engaged to Lin Jianfeng. It seemed she was finally over that boy from the Lu Family.

After discussing the engagement with his parents, Lin Jianfeng went to the bathroom to wash up.

Mrs. Lin picked up the jacket he had left on the sofa, intending to put it back in his room. Just as she lifted it, a manuscript fell out onto the sofa.

Mr. Lin picked up the manuscript and casually started flipping through it.

When Lin Jianfeng came out of the bathroom, he saw his father reading the manuscript he had brought back and casually explained where it came from.

Mr. Lin said, "The content is quite good. It really resonates with the thinking of today’s youth."

Hearing his father say that, Lin Jianfeng’s interest was piqued, and he stayed up all night to finish reading the manuscript.

The next day, Lin Jianfeng arranged to meet Lu Tingting through Meng Wei.

"I’ve read the manuscript. It’s very well-written, but if you want to adapt it into a film, the storyline needs to be fleshed out more, and the characters are too one-dimensional..."

Lin Jianfeng spoke to Lu Tingting for a full half-hour about the framework, plot, and characters, leaving her head buzzing.

Lin Jianfeng was very perceptive. Seeing that Lu Tingting couldn’t keep up with the conversation, he guessed what was going on.

"Tingting, you didn’t write this, did you?"

At this point, Lu Tingting could only admit the truth.

"This manuscript belongs to my third aunt."

Meng Wei nearly dropped her teacup. "Who did you say? Jiang Moli?!"

Meng Wei’s loss of composure made Lin Jianfeng curious. "Xiao Wei, you know her?"

Meng Wei’s expression was as ugly as if she’d eaten shit. She couldn’t even be bothered to maintain her ladylike image and snapped at Lu Tingting:

"The manuscript is Jiang Moli’s—why didn’t you say so earlier!?"

’Why else? To guard against you, of course.’

’And you’re a grown woman asking such brainless questions.’

Lu Tingting complained silently to herself, but aloud she asked innocently, "Sister Weiwei, didn’t you say you were friends with my third uncle? If you help my third aunt, you’re helping my third uncle. He’ll be grateful to you."

Meng Wei was so angry she nearly coughed up blood.

She couldn’t care less about a thank you from Lu Cheng!

It was infuriating enough that Jiang Moli had snatched Lu Cheng away from her. Now she was using her connections to get to Lin Jianfeng? How dare she!

"Brother Lin, this work was created by my third aunt. She went to the Sichuan-Shaanxi Revolutionary Area for a performance tour. As for the film adaptation, you should talk to her about it yourself."

After saying that, Lu Tingting quickly left.

Before leaving, she didn’t forget to take the manuscript with her.

’Can’t let Meng Wei go crazy and destroy the manuscript. If that wretched woman Jiang Moli found out, she’d definitely deal with me.’

Noticing that Meng Wei’s mood was off, Lin Jianfeng thoughtfully poured some more hot tea into her cup.

"Xiao Wei, did you have some sort of unpleasantness with Tingting’s third aunt?"

Meng Wei certainly wasn’t going to tell Lin Jianfeng the truth.

Losing to Jiang Moli was too humiliating, and it would make her seem petty and narrow-minded.

She tried hard to calm her inner rage and poured out all the bad rumors about Jiang Moli—that she was lazy, gluttonous, and vain—to Lin Jianfeng.

"Honestly, I really dislike her as a person, and I have doubts about her creative abilities. Jianfeng, there are plenty of good stories out there. There’s no need to use hers, right?"

Lin Jianfeng nodded. "I’ll give it some serious thought."

Meng Wei breathed a sigh of relief. "I also have a friend who’s a screenwriter. I’ll introduce you next time."

"Okay."

...

After the performance tour in Tong County successfully concluded, Jiang Moli followed the art troupe to Dacheng.

With *Chasing Dreams* suspended, Jiang Moli had nothing to do. The continuous dreary rain made her not want to go out, so she simply holed up in her room and slept.

Someone knocked on her door around noon.

She thought it was Yang Lijiong calling her for lunch, but it turned out to be the guesthouse receptionist, who said there was a visitor downstairs for her.

Jiang Moli got dressed and went downstairs to the first floor.

"Ms. Jiang, hello. I’m Lin Jianfeng, a director from the Emei Film Studio."

"Hello. Is there something I can help you with?"

Lin Jianfeng looked at Jiang Moli sitting across from him, both surprised and impressed.

He hadn’t expected Moli to be so young, or so beautiful.

From a director’s perspective, Jiang Moli’s facial proportions were ideal. She had a small face perfectly framed by the shape of her head—a look that was incredibly photogenic.

Meng Wei’s "pillow talk" had indeed made him hesitate about adapting *Chasing Dreams*.

But he wasn’t one to give up easily. After mulling it over at home for two days, he still decided to meet Jiang Moli in person.

When she learned of Lin Jianfeng’s purpose for visiting, and especially after finding out he was Meng Wei’s fiancé-to-be, Jiang Moli smiled.

’My dear niece has been quietly scoring some major points for me!’

Lin Jianfeng stayed in Dacheng for a day, having an in-depth discussion with Jiang Moli about the adaptation of *Chasing Dreams*.

The day he returned to Rongcheng, Lin Jianfeng asked Meng Wei out to dinner.

After they ordered, Meng Wei poured tea for Lin Jianfeng while asking about his work. "Did your business trip to Dacheng go well?"

"Yes."

Lin Jianfeng looked at her and said frankly, "Xiao Wei, actually, I went to Dacheng to see Jiang Moli." ℴℴ𝘮

The teapot in Meng Wei’s hand almost slipped from her grasp, and the smile vanished from her face.
