An Accidental Military Marriage
Chapter 241: Dealing with Jiang Qing
Chapter 241: Chapter 241: Dealing with Jiang Qing
Hearing the clerk’s words, Jiang Qing’s mind went blank. She blurted out,
"What did you just say? Can you say that again?"
The clerk rolled their eyes at her and raised their voice. "Your exam admission ticket wasn’t issued. Did you hear me clearly!?"
"Why? Everyone else’s admission tickets were issued, why wasn’t mine?"
The clerk tapped the household registration field on the application form. "Your registered address is incorrect."
Jiang Qing quickly looked down at the application form and hurriedly explained, "My dad used to be an employee at the machinery factory, he was only transferred to the Bureau of Agriculture a few days ago..."
The clerk cut her off. "It’s your household registration that’s wrong! Your registration is no longer in our Jinjiang District."
Jiang Qing was stunned. "My registration isn’t in Jinjiang District? Then where is it?"
"How would I know? You don’t even know where your own household registration is, and you expect to take the college entrance exam!"
Jiang Qing was frantic. "Excuse me, could there be a mistake? My registration is right here in Jinjiang District. They can all vouch for me..."
The clerk interrupted her impatiently. "I told you, it’s not here, so it’s not here. Go ask at the police station yourself. I’m busy."
"Stop hogging the window. Can’t you see we’re all waiting in line?"
Hearing the protests and prodding from behind her, Jiang Qing had no choice but to leave the window, a grim look on her face.
"Jiang Qing, what’s wrong with your household registration?"
"You couldn’t get your admission ticket? Then does that mean you can’t take the college entrance exam this year?"
Facing her two classmates’ questions, Jiang Qing felt both humiliated and helpless.
Although she still wasn’t sure what had happened, she had a vague suspicion.
She ran to the lantern factory to find Li Hongying.
"Mom, my household registration! What did you do with my household registration?"
"We didn’t do anything. What’s wrong?"
Upon learning that Jiang Qing couldn’t take the college entrance exam because of an incorrect registration address, Li Hongying also became very anxious.
As her biological mother, she wanted her daughter to get into college and have a bright future more than anyone.
Seeing that Li Hongying genuinely knew nothing about the registration, Jiang Qing rushed off to the Bureau of Agriculture.
When Jiang Dahai came out of his office, he saw Jiang Qing’s red-rimmed eyes and instinctively asked with concern,
"Xiao Qing, what happened?"
"Cut the act! Did you have my household registration transferred?"
Facing his angry, weeping stepdaughter, Jiang Dahai was at a loss for words.
’A few days ago, my daughter said she needed to run an errand and took the family’s household registration book.’
’So that must have been it. His daughter must have transferred his stepdaughter’s registration.’
To Jiang Qing, his silence was an admission of guilt.
She roared, "What right do you have to move my registration? I can’t get my admission ticket, so I can’t take the college entrance exam this year! You have to answer for this!"
Jiang Dahai looked at her. "Xiao Qing, did you steal my technical documents and give them to Yang Dong?"
On the way over, Jiang Qing had already figured that Jiang Dahai probably suspected her.
She had already resolved to deny it no matter what. "This has nothing to do with me! Don’t try to pin some baseless accusation on me! You all just can’t stand to see me do well, so you’re deliberately backing me into a corner!"
"Let me make one thing clear: if you don’t move my registration back, I’ll take a rope and hang myself right at the entrance of the Bureau of Agriculture! I can’t go on living anyway, so even if I die, I’ll make sure everyone knows your true colors!"
...
Jiang Moli returned to the Jiang family home.
Seeing Jiang Qing sitting on the sofa and glaring daggers at her, she quipped,
"Well, well. We have company."
’Jiang Qing used to be the stepdaughter of this family. Now, she’s an outsider.’
Jiang Dahai looked at her but said nothing.
Li Hongying looked like she wanted to say something, but held her tongue.
Jiang Moli walked over to Jiang Qing and tossed a new household registration book at her. "I’ve already transferred your registration back to your biological father."
Jiang Qing opened the book, and when she saw the registration information, she nearly fainted from rage.
’They actually moved my registration back to the countryside!’
’How outrageous!’
"By what right did you transfer my registration without permission? Who are you to do that?"
Jiang Moli sat down on the sofa, her voice lazy and indifferent. "You know full well why I did it. You’re the one who stole my dad’s research documents, aren’t you?"
Hearing this, Li Hongying instinctively spoke up to defend her daughter. "Xiao Qing wouldn’t do something like that. Isn’t there some kind of misunderstanding?"
Jiang Qing retorted defiantly to Jiang Moli, "Do you have any proof? What makes you suspect me? You didn’t even ask a single question and you’ve already convicted me?"
"I’m not a judge, so I don’t need evidence to declare you guilty. But that defiant look on your face while you deny everything... it’s really asking for a slap."
As she spoke, a KNOCK KNOCK came from the door.
"There now. The proof you wanted has arrived."
With that, Jiang Moli got up and opened the door.
When she saw Yang Dong enter, the color drained from Jiang Qing’s face.
With Yang Dong’s testimony, Jiang Qing could no longer deny it.
She sobbed uncontrollably. "You wouldn’t let me live here, you threw me out, and I’m penniless. I just want to survive, but you won’t give me a chance! What was I supposed to do?"
"Even though I stole the documents, you didn’t suffer any real losses! Even if you couldn’t stand me, you could have just told me directly, and I would have moved out. What right do you have to make my decisions for me? Will you only be happy when you’ve driven me to my death?"
Jiang Moli sneered, "Nobody’s pushing you to die. We just sent you back to where you belong. You’re able-bodied, you have a diploma, and an endless supply of your own cleverness. Where in the world could you possibly not survive?"
Jiang Qing said indignantly, "You have everything, so why won’t you just let me be?"
"That’s a good question."
Jiang Moli raised her hand and slapped her hard across the face.
Caught off guard, Jiang Qing staggered from the blow.
Jiang Moli grabbed her chin, her eyes icy. "This slap is for my dad. How did he ever mistreat you? Did you ever go hungry or lack for clothes? Even a dog we raise would wag its tail. But you? You bite the hand that feeds you. You’re fucking worse than an animal!"
After saying that, she raised her hand and slapped her again.
"This slap is for me. I’ve despised you for a long time. Now take your things and go back where you came from. From now on, you’d better learn to live with your tail between your legs. You can still register for the college entrance exam next year; maybe you’ll even get a chance to turn your life around. If not, then I’ll just have to arrange for you to be fed by the state."
Jiang Qing’s face was ashen. She was both shocked and terrified.
Because she knew Jiang Moli was serious—that she really would send her to prison.
Under Jiang Moli’s watchful eye, Jiang Qing packed her bags and left the Jiang family home in disgrace.
Li Hongying’s heart felt as if it were being twisted by a knife, but she was too ashamed to plead for her daughter and could only wipe her tears in secret.
After dealing with Jiang Qing, Jiang Moli turned to see her guest out. "Director Yang, thank you for your trouble today. I know you’re a busy man, so I won’t keep you for dinner."
Yang Dong laughed sheepishly. "But we had a deal. I show up and testify, and you tell me the flaw in the new technology."
A man like Yang Dong would never admit that his technology was plagiarized.
But the bait Jiang Moli had thrown out was too tempting for him to refuse.
"The flaw in the new technology is that it’s missing my dad. You can take the results, but you can’t take my dad’s brain."
Yang Dong was left speechless.
