An Accidental Military Marriage
Chapter 153: For You, It’s Marrying Off a Disaster
Chapter 153: Chapter 153: For You, It’s Marrying Off a Disaster
Lu Tingting glared at Jiang Peng, who had stolen her spot. "Get out of there!"
Jiang Peng provoked, "Come on up, if you have the guts."
Hearing the argument, Jiang Moli turned her head and beamed at Lu Tingting, who was still outside the car. "My dear niece, why don’t you come sit on your third aunt’s lap? Don’t squeeze in with these smelly boys."
Lu Cheng glanced over at his wife.
’He was the one who wanted to sit on his wife’s lap, but he was afraid he’d crush her delicate arms and legs.’
"Who wants to sit on your lap!" Lu Tingting said with a look of disdain.
Lu Cheng turned his head and barked, "Are you getting in the car or not? If not, I’m driving off!"
Meeting his icy gaze, Lu Tingting’s bravado instantly deflated. Pouting, she sullenly climbed into the car.
The road was far from smooth. Even with Lu Cheng’s decent driving skills, the ride was unavoidably bumpy.
Especially in the back row.
Every time they rolled over a pothole, the three passengers in the back were jostled so hard their butts left the seats, like they were on a roller coaster.
Lu Tingting shoved Jiang Peng hard. "Get away from me, you’re crowding me!"
Jiang Peng said in a gruff voice, "I don’t want to be next to you either! What if you get obsessed and insist on marrying me? I’d be wronged for life!"
"Why don’t you go find a puddle and take a look at your reflection? You’re as dark as a gorilla! I wouldn’t want you even if all the other men in the world dropped dead!"
"People’s hearts are treacherous. You say you’re not interested, but who knows what you’re really thinking. Hey, scoot over toward the door and don’t touch me. My sister told me that boys have to protect themselves when they’re out and about."
As he spoke, he crossed his arms over his chest, terrified of being taken advantage of.
Lu Tingting was so angry she could feel smoke coming out of her ears.
Beside them, Shen Yanzhi couldn’t help but chuckle, clearly recalling that Jiang Moli had given him the same warning.
Lu Cheng turned to look at Jiang Moli, his eyes asking, ’Did you really say that? How come you never told me to be careful?’
It was midday, and the air was already stuffy and hot.
The two of them bickering endlessly in the cramped car was getting on everyone’s nerves.
Jiang Moli turned and lost her temper at them. "Both of you, shut your mouths! If anyone says another word, I’ll arrange your engagement right here, right now. Then you can share a bed and argue to your hearts’ content every single day."
Lu Tingting and Jiang Peng shot each other a glare, but neither said another word.
’Even if I can’t find anyone to marry, I’d never marry you!’
’I’d rather be a bachelor my whole life than marry a spoiled, aggressive shrew like you.’
Shen Yanzhi also breathed a secret sigh of relief.
’Finally, some peace and quiet.’
Their bickering had made his ears ache, but his good manners had kept him from saying anything.
The quiet didn’t last long before Jiang Peng’s mouth got restless again. "Brother-in-law, can you transfer me to another squad?"
Lu Cheng: "What’s wrong?"
"That Liu Jinlong is always targeting me. He just can’t stand the sight of me..."
’Serves you right!’
’I hope he targets you and makes your life miserable!’
Lu Tingting secretly reveled in his misfortune.
After Jiang Peng finished complaining about all the unfairness and grievances he had suffered in the new recruits’ camp, Jiang Moli began to give him a lecture on his conduct:
"You should reflect on your own problems more. Why doesn’t he target others, but only picks on you?"
"Don’t run to your brother-in-law every time something happens. He’s not your father, and even if he were, he couldn’t look after you for your whole life."
"If you’re a real man, you have to learn to solve your own problems. If you can’t solve them, you won’t make it anywhere, even if you get transferred to a new place."
"Be more diligent, a little sweeter with your words, work harder, and leave a good impression on your superiors."
Lu Cheng listened and nodded. His wife was making a lot of sense!
While true skill was what mattered in the army, wherever there were people, there was the unavoidable matter of social politics.
It wasn’t about brown-nosing or sucking up to the leadership, but about being flexible and not so thick-headed when things went wrong.
Lu Tingting couldn’t take it anymore and chimed in sarcastically, "You’ve got some nerve criticizing others. Of everyone in this car, you’re the laziest one, sleeping in till noon every day."
Jiang Peng turned and shot back at her, "My sister likes to sleep in. My dad and my brother-in-law don’t care, so what gives you the right to meddle?"
Lu Tingting was exasperated. "Are you nuts? I’m trying to help you."
"Who asked for your help? You haven’t fallen for me, have you? Don’t. When someone marries a normal woman, it’s called marriage. When someone marries you, it’s a catastrophe."
Lu Tingting was about to die from anger.
Jiang Moli, however, was very gratified by her brother’s protectiveness.
’I should leave him a little extra money when I leave in the future,’ she thought to herself.
Lu Cheng was also quite pleased with his young brother-in-law’s defensive loyalty. ’He might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but deep down, he’s a loyal and righteous person.’
After being lectured by Jiang Moli, Jiang Peng quieted down and stopped asking to be transferred.
Back at the base, Lu Cheng dropped Jiang Moli off in front of the guesthouse.
Lu Tingting got out of the car as well.
"You promised you’d teach me that... that secret. Don’t you go back on your word."
After watching Lu Cheng’s car drive away, Lu Tingting reminded Jiang Moli.
Jiang Moli beamed. "You can count on it. Go back to your dorm for now, and come find me at 5 p.m."
Only then did Lu Tingting leave happily.
...
Back in her dorm, Lu Tingting saw Jiang Qing lying on her bed resting. She gathered up several days’ worth of dirty clothes and threw the entire pile onto Jiang Qing’s head.
The sour, stinky smell that hit her face nearly made Jiang Qing gag.
She glared at Lu Tingting furiously. "What is your problem now?"
Lu Tingting stood with her hands on her hips. "You’re the one who promised to wash my clothes once every ten days. What, are your words as worthless as a fart now?"
Jiang Qing stared at the dirty clothes scattered on her bed and the floor—at least a dozen items—and seethed with anger.
She had promised to wash Lu Tingting’s clothes, but that was before they had a falling out.
Not only had Lu Tingting burned her study materials, but she also targeted her and picked fights with her every day. And she still had the gall to ask her to do her laundry.
’She’s even more shameless than Jiang Moli!’
"What are you staring at? Hurry up and wash them. I’m waiting to wear them this afternoon."
The temperature was high during the day, and the sun was strong. Washed clothes would dry completely in just a couple of hours.
After glaring at Lu Tingting for a long while, Jiang Qing resignedly got off the bed, picked up the clothes, and went to wash them.
If she didn’t, who knew what kind of fit Lu Tingting would throw next.
Under the scorching sun, the cicadas chirped themselves hoarse.
Jiang Qing squatted by the well, scrubbing the clothes. From time to time, she would raise a hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead to keep it from dripping into her eyes and stinging.
After finally finishing one basin, she turned her head and saw there was still another one, which made her so angry she felt dizzy.
’Who knows how long she’s been saving these up? She’s as lazy as Jiang Moli!’
Speaking of Jiang Moli, she was curious about who was washing her clothes now.
Jiang Moli always wore clean clothes when she went out, so they must be washed daily.
’Did Jiang Moli wash them herself?’
’It couldn’t be Lu Cheng.’
’He was a battalion commander, after all. No matter how much he doted on his wife, he wouldn’t stoop to washing her clothes. If word of that got out, he’d be a laughingstock.’
"ACHOO!"
Lu Cheng raised the back of his hand to rub his nose and continued scrubbing the clothes in his hands.
His wife’s clothes were made of a light, thin fabric, and he didn’t dare use too much force, afraid he might ruin them.
Normally, Jiang Moli wore one outfit for the entire day, only changing at night.
But she had gone to the town to perform today and had sweated a lot, so she changed as soon as she got back.
During her time at the military base, Lu Cheng had washed nearly all of Jiang Moli’s dirty clothes.
Sometimes she would leave them out after changing, planning to wash them after waking up the next day.
But when she woke up in the morning, the dirty clothes would already be washed and hung up to dry on the balcony.
Unless specifically instructed by the military, orderlies didn’t help clean the rooms.
But despite staying for so many days and never cleaning once, Jiang Moli’s room was always spotless.
The one who loves you might not say it, but they show it in everything they do.
