Alpha's Regret: The Seventh Time was Forever
Chapter 652 – Coronation day drama IV
Chapter 652: Chapter 652 – Coronation day drama IV
Alpha Jaron was upset, his fury barely contained beneath the surface. Strangely, his gaze drifted to Voren, who was rather calm, too calm for his liking. The way Voren sat in his chair like a king surveying his domain, his expression unreadable, his posture relaxed, made Jaron’s blood boil.
However, Jaron hated that he had been played. He hated Corvine for showing interest in his daughter when he was just a beta. Now that he realized the candidate he had vouched for, Killian, was not even worth it, he felt played and humiliated.
"Alpha Atticus, you should be ashamed." Jaron roared, finding the right avenue to vent his anger. His voice echoed across the auditorium, sharp and cutting. "You were excited when I brought the proposal for Killian to marry my daughter because I needed her to have the security of a pack she completely had control over." He paused, his eyes blazing. "Why didn’t you tell me then that Corvine was the Alpha in line?"
If he had known this, he would not have made things difficult for Corvine and would not have fallen into Voren’s bad books.
Atticus’s gaze dropped, but he soon smiled, a slippery, oily expression. "That’s because I didn’t know."
"Liar!" Vladimir roared from where he sat, his voice carrying the weight of decades. The old Alpha’s eyes were fierce, his hands gripping the arms of his chair.
"Alpha Jaron brought the proposal exclusively to me before, and until the full moon festival, everyone expected it to be my son." He paused, letting the words sink in. "It was only after the news of Voren’s marriage to my daughter-in-law that he approached you. You were well aware by then that Corvine was Desmond’s only son and the right Alpha of the Nightshade pack."
Humphrey spoke from where he sat, his voice calm but no less devastating. "To add to that, I overheard you discussing with Alpha Jaron to give Killian preference over Corvine because you didn’t want Corvine to marry Queen Athaliah." He tilted his head, his gaze piercing. "You were afraid, Alpha Atticus. Afraid that Corvine would return and take what was rightfully his."
The bullets were too much for Atticus, each accusation landing with deadly precision. But his gaze found Corvine’s cold one, and he forced a smile onto his face. "King Corvine, the fact remains that you belong to the Nightshade pack." He spread his hands. "So what do you say?"
Corvine smiled a little, a dangerous, knowing smile as he pulled Liah gently by his side and led her to the microphone. Killian took the opportunity to confront his father in a hushed tone, his voice tight with anger. "Did you have to embarrass me like this?"
His father replied in a hushed tone, his words quick and calculated. "Endure it for losing the fight against Corvine. He has the crown now, and both he and his queen are very rich." He glanced at the royal couple. "You won’t lose your position, so help me to bring them to the Nightshade pack and our problems are over."
Catching through his father’s plans, Killian smiled knowingly. Indeed, with Corvine and Liah’s wealth, the pack would never suffer financially a day in their lives. The debts would vanish. The coffers would overflow. It was a tempting prize.
Just as Corvine was about to speak, Killian spoke from beside his father, his voice carrying across the hall. "King Corvine, we got off on the wrong foot, but that’s because I didn’t know." He forced sincerity into his tone. "Honestly, I’m so proud to have you at the Nightshade pack."
Corvine smiled, though it didn’t reach his eyes. His gaze roamed elegantly across the crowd, finding Ravyn first with a nod of acknowledgment, of gratitude. Then Voren and Seraphine, his anchors, his family.
Then his smile widened, genuine and warm. "My words are short." His voice carried across the auditorium. "I accept the position of King of Alphas."
He made way for Liah to speak, stepping back with a gesture of respect. "I also accept the position of Queen of Lunas." Her voice was clear, steady.
The council stood up and had them print their thumbs on a final document before declaring, their voices ringing across the hall. "Alphas, Lunas, Betas, and leaders, Alpha King Corvine Stone and Luna Queen Athaliah Stone."
Voren finally smiled, a warm, proud expression, and began to make his way to congratulate them. But Atticus’s voice rang again, persistent and demanding. "King Corvine, aren’t you going to address the matter at hand?"
"I will." Corvine replied, his voice carrying a note of finality. He spoke respectfully, his gaze sweeping across the crowd. "Alpha Voren and Luna Sera, can you do us the honor of approaching the podium?"
Well, Voren and Seraphine were already on their way, so they only completed the journey, their footsteps echoing across the marble floor. Corvine continued to speak, his voice strong and clear.
"First of all, I’d like to thank my former boss and Alpha, Ravyn, for giving me the opportunity to be your beta and teaching me a lot of things." He paused, his gaze finding Ravyn in the crowd. "I will never forget the trust and confidence you gave to me. You shaped me into the man I am today."
Ravyn smiled and nodded his head, a flicker of pride in his eyes.
Corvine’s gaze pinned on Voren, his expression drifting to something deeper, more profound. "Alpha Voren, I used to admire you from afar. You were always so cold and unwelcoming." A ripple of nervous laughter went through the crowd. "But somehow, I fell in love with your wife, and she taught me many things."
Tension erupted through the hall, gasps and murmurs rippling like wildfire. But Corvine smiled, holding up a hand. "You are all getting it wrong, but Alpha Voren understands." He met Voren’s gaze, his expression earnest. "I love his wife as my younger sister and boss. Yeah, aside from my wife and queen, Liah, and of course, my mother, Sera is the most amazing woman I’ve ever met."
He paused, his voice growing thick with emotion. "She was the rope that pulled me to Alpha Voren. And this man showed me so much love that I now consider him an elder brother rather than a boss or Alpha."
His gaze swept across the crowd, commanding their attention. "I’ve learned a lot from him, and trust me, I’m still learning. Because he’s the most complicated, calculating, smart, ruthless, and yet kind and loving person I’ve ever met. I don’t have one word to describe him." He paused, letting the words hang in the air. "But there is also something important."
The silence was absolute. Every eye was fixed on him, waiting as he declared,
"Alpha Voren is the only one deserving of the crown and title of Alpha King."
