Chapter 591: Chapter 591 – So how did you meet my daughter?

Seraphine did not mind wasting a little money for important information. The cost of the truth was trivial compared to the weight of the questions pressing down on her.

She said seriously, her voice carrying the finality of a business deal, "Fine, I’ll let everything go, and I’ll give you ten million dollars. You just have to answer every question truthfully."

Another yawn escaped her, her jaw cracking with the effort. The exhaustion was catching up with her, pulling at her eyelids, making her limbs feel heavy and uncooperative.

But Coco had a plan of her own, her eyes gleaming with naked avarice. "Make it twenty."

Seraphine did not have the energy to argue. The thought of haggling felt like climbing a mountain, and she simply didn’t have the strength left in her. She agreed to it with a weary nod. "Fine, twenty million it is. So what happened with Voren?"

"Money first," Coco insisted, her hand outstretched, fingers twitching with impatience.

Seraphine sighed and brought out her phone from her jean pocket, the movement slow and deliberate from sheer exhaustion.

Coco’s brows shot up in surprise as Seraphine quickly made the transfer, her fingers moving across the screen with practiced efficiency. The notification chimed, confirming the transaction.

As soon as she got it, Coco transferred the money into another account with hurried, furtive movements, her eyes darting to Seraphine as if expecting her to snatch the phone away.

Then she pulled a chair and sat in front of Seraphine, settling in like she had all the time in the world.

"I have transferred the money into another account in case you try to reverse it." A smug smile played at the corners of her mouth.

Seraphine’s lips twitched, a ghost of amusement flickering across her tired features. If she wanted to reverse that money, she could still do it no matter where Coco transferred it. Banks had their ways, and so did she. "Smart move," she conceded, leaning back in her chair. "So go ahead."

"Wait," Coco said, rising from her seat and moving toward the bed. She leaned over the unconscious gigolo and rubbed her hands over his face in a slow, careful motion. The gesture was strange, almost ritualistic, and Seraphine watched with narrowed eyes.

"What’s that for?" Confusion laced her voice, her brow furrowing.

"To make sure he doesn’t wake up any time soon." Coco straightened, brushing her hands together as if removing dust. "But truth be told, I want Voren." She stated her claim with blunt finality, her eyes meeting Seraphine’s without flinching.

Seraphine smiled, but it was a brittle thing, sharp and cold, quickly replaced by sternness that hardened her entire expression. "Coco, Voren is my husband, and I can assure you that you will never have him." Her voice carried absolute conviction, unwavering steel beneath the fatigue. "The earlier you move on, the better for you."

Coco’s fingers balled into tight fists at her sides, her knuckles whitening. If only she had played by her mother’s rules, then Voren would have still been hers. The thought burned in her chest like acid, corroding her from the inside.

"Fine," she relented, though her eyes still held that dangerous gleam, already thinking of other means to have Voren. Other ways to manipulate, other spells to cast. "We used a sample of his hair to create those memories in his mind."

She settled back into her chair, crossing her legs. "Honestly, I had a boyfriend I loved so much. But my mother insisted that I marry Voren. I wasn’t interested because I was a college student by then, and I never failed to capture attention from men."

A nostalgic smile crossed her features, her eyes growing distant. "It wasn’t until she showed me Voren’s picture. I was smitten, completely taken. But she told me there was a problem."

"What problem?" Seraphine leaned forward, her exhaustion momentarily forgotten in the face of the unfolding story.

Coco’s voice dropped, taking on a dramatic edge. "You. My mother told me that someone already stole Voren’s heart, that a love spell could not work on him. She said that the spell though, would drive him into the desperation to look for someone who looked exactly like you."

Her eyes glittered with a mixture of resentment and reluctant admiration. "She knew what she was doing. She knew his obsession would consume him."

Seraphine nodded slowly, urging her to continue with a subtle gesture of her hand.

"The moment I agreed, she gave me some concoction to drink and told me to sleep on my bed facing your picture. She had gotten one from the pack when she went to visit her friend, Noelle or whatever her name was."

Coco’s voice dripped with contempt at the name. "When I woke up that day, there was no sign of myself in there. The mirror showed someone else entirely. She told me that this was an ancient spell that could not be reversed."

Now Seraphine was getting nervous about the irreversible part. Her stomach twisted with unease, a cold dread seeping through her veins.

She had wished that Coco would embrace her original identity and leave her alone, had hoped for a clean resolution. But not this. Not the impossibility of ever seeing Coco’s true face.

"I don’t like you carrying my image," Seraphine said, her voice tight with barely suppressed emotion.

"Neither do I." Coco confessed, pulling out her phone and showing Seraphine something on the screen. "This is me before the spell."

The image showed a young woman with completely different features, wider eyes, a softer jaw, darker skin tone but very beautiful. Seraphine realized that Coco indeed looked like her mother in that picture.

The witch she saw with Daisy on the day she lost her gold fish. "And trust me, the only thing that didn’t change was my hair," Coco continued. "But Voren suggested that I dye it brunette." Bitter amusement colored her words. "I miss my image."

Coco’s voice cracked slightly. "Your face haunts me, every morning when I wake up and look in the mirror. But there’s nothing I can do about it." She shrugged, a helpless gesture that seemed almost genuine.

"As for Voren, those images were encrypted on his mind due to his obsession with you. They are like his wet dreams about you, fantasies that played out while he slept. My mother only capitalized on it when I sent her a strand of Voren’s hair." A humorless laugh escaped her. "She knew exactly how to use his desires against him."

For that part, Seraphine sighed with relief, the tension draining from her shoulders. Knowing how the information disturbed Voren, how the false memories had tormented him, it was a comfort to understand they weren’t real.

But she had another question, one that had been gnawing at her since this conversation began.

"So, how did you meet my daughter?"
