Almighty Sweet Queen is Really Rich!
Chapter 1551: His Light Went Out
May third had always been an ordinary, uneventful day, but now he suddenly found himself hating it.
Su Li thought about it, then felt it didn’t really matter anymore.
"Anyway, it was all destined, I was bound to have a premature delivery. If she’d told us in advance, I would’ve just been frightened, worrying and scared all day long."
Thinking of how Ling Chenyu had scared her a few times yesterday, she’d come to the hospital on edge with her big belly, and ended up being frightened into early labor by Ling Chenyu.
Feng Huaijin tucked the covers around Su Li and spoke in a warm, gentle voice: "Sleep a bit more first, I’ll stay here with you."
Su Li lay on the hospital bed, blinking as she looked at Feng Huaijin. "Your eyes are all red. And these clothes... you wore them to the office yesterday, didn’t you?"
Feng Huaijin didn’t deny it.
He hadn’t had a moment to change clothes; he couldn’t even get a single bite of food down, just kept waiting outside the delivery room door.
Su Li thought for a moment, then smiled softly. "I want to sleep for a while. Why don’t you go check on the baby? Take one or two photos for me to see?"
Feng Huaijin considered briefly and nodded. He gently kissed her forehead and said in a low voice, "I’ll be back very soon. The butler and the others will stay here with you."
Feng Huaijin rose, nodded to the old butler at the door, then turned and left the ward, heading toward the incubator room.
Feng Huaijin hadn’t been with the baby for long, only about ten minutes before he came back.
But the person returning wasn’t just Feng Huaijin; Ning Yan was with him.
Su Li lay on the bed and caught sight of Ning Yan’s reddened eyes, freezing for a moment. "Ning Yan, what’s wrong? Where’s Feng Yi?"
Ning Yan pressed his lips together tightly, unwilling to answer.
Su Li looked toward Feng Huaijin and saw him give her a faint nod.
Su Li understood instantly.
Feng Yi... went back?
This world operates under rules; it doesn’t allow the same person to exist within one time-space.
She and Feng Huaijin had actually already thought about it—that perhaps once she gave birth, the eighteen-year-old Feng Yi would have to return to the time-space where she belonged.
So neither she nor Feng Huaijin was surprised.
Only, looking at Ning Yan’s reddened eyes, Su Li suddenly didn’t know how to comfort him.
The thing people fear most isn’t never having something, but having had it and then tasting the bitterness of losing it.
"Sister." Ning Yan called softly.
Su Li beckoned to him, and Ning Yan, eyes rimmed red, walked over and squatted gently in front of her.
Su Li reached out the hand that was connected to the IV drip, resting it on Ning Yan’s ink-black hair, gently stroking him. "It’s okay. Feng Huaijin and I are both your family, not just Feng Yi."
Feng Huaijin had always doted on him with the anxious heart of an old father raising precious seedlings, and seeing Ning Yan like this, he couldn’t bring himself to make even a half-joking remark.
Su Li smoothed his soft hair, her voice mild and gentle. "I know you only see her as family. Feng Yi will slowly grow up under your watch. In the Future she’ll call you Uncle Ning, and she’ll treat you as her real uncle."
Ning Yan’s nose stung; that still slightly boyish face suddenly buried itself against the side of the hospital bed, and tears poured out like a rising tide.
Su Li’s heart ached for this younger brother. She stayed quiet, her hand gently stroking his hair, murmuring over and over, "It’s okay, it’s going to be okay."
On that narrow path choked with thorns, a lamp had suddenly lit up.
He had guarded that lamp, refusing to let it go out, inching his way forward step by step, and suddenly he’d found hope for the road ahead.
And then that lamp went out.
Su Li looked at Feng Huaijin, and he understood, saying to Ning Yan, "All right, today is my daughter’s birthday. No crying allowed."
"Oh, right, I forgot to take photos of Feng Yi just now. Go take a few for me and bring them back for your sister to see. Hurry."
