All My Summons Become Divine Girls
Chapter 569: The Quiet Answer
Ferra took Vella’s slate from Hajin as the deployment clock reached six minutes twenty seconds, the three-lobed knot arriving beside fixtures that had begun waiting between their notes.
She rested the drawing against the junction’s outer bracket before bringing her own fork down to the first salvaged piece, its maker’s mark warm beneath the tool.
The sky brace complained above them with every small shift of the damaged support, its loud metal answer making the workers nearest it look up before they looked anywhere else.
Under that noise, the quieter river anchor gave a small uneven pulse through the part of the fixture that Ferra had forged to carry its load.
She listened to both while Hajin watched her face, his left dressing marked from the held sky frequency and his right hand still empty beside the slate.
’Of course the dangerous one has learned manners.’
The three-lobed drawing showed the same delay she could feel beneath the fork, each attack waiting for a shared interval before pushing its separate burden into motion.
Ferra lowered her free fingers against her nearest forged join, calling the Masterwork Network through the pieces she had made and set into the hearts’ existing structure.
Heat moved first through the prepared metal, its path finding the sky connection before returning toward the quieter weight under the river side.
She felt the north piece answer through its linked masterwork, the parked district’s held burden arriving as a strain against the circuit rather than a voice giving instructions.
The third reach joined along the Alder connection, its different pressure pulling at the same forged framework while Eirwen kept the living road under her own hands.
Ferra spread that load through her work a little farther, the linked pieces becoming one useful circuit beneath the separate engines trying to find their next agreement.
[ Masterwork Network: Three-heart circuit ]
[ Transfer: Heat and structural load ]
[ Command Authority: None ]
Hajin read the last line before looking toward the waiting beat on Vella’s slate, his eyes narrowing at the three joined lobes.
"So it will not tell them to stop."
"It will help us survive what they do."
The worker beside the bracket copied the three fields onto a scrap of board, nailing it above the connection where the next crew would be taking over the exposed watch.
Ferra kept her attention on the quiet pulse while the hammer tapped behind her, feeling it soften beneath the sky brace’s louder complaint instead of disappearing.
Hajin stepped toward the open socket beside the main bracket when its outer edge began to lift, his right hand reaching in to settle the movement before it could widen.
The inner lip caught his finger as the pressure shifted, a red line opening along the side of his hand while the socket pulled harder toward the noise overhead.
Ferra caught his wrist above the cord before he could drive his palm deeper, her grip stopping the movement with the rough edge still against his skin.
"Outer rim."
He looked from the bleeding finger to the brace that had begun rattling above his shoulder, the urge to follow that noise already turning his body toward it.
"The sky is coming loose."
"The river is carrying it."
She guided his hand outward until the cut finger cleared the lip, releasing his wrist once his palm found the safe rim before putting her wrapped hand onto the adjoining contact.
The dressing over her blister had started slipping beneath the work, its edge catching as she pressed into the place Hajin’s grip had been obscuring.
A thin break opened through the damaged skin under the cloth, her blood touching the hot socket with one small sizzle that made his eyes return to her face.
The sound was uglier for being so brief, the heat taking its bite while Ferra held the contact long enough to feel which linked piece would answer next.
The smell reached her a moment after the pain, a sharp burnt trace making the ordinary air beneath the bracket feel too warm against her face.
She drew her next breath through her nose anyway, refusing the cough that would have shaken her contact loose.
"I am asking you to trust the person who built it."
Hajin kept his right palm on the outer rim, easing his shoulder away from the loud brace while the quiet river pulse strengthened beneath Ferra’s hand.
She watched his wrist stay clear after that changed movement settled, turning the fork in her other hand toward the quieter connection.
The sky support rattled harder as she left it with the thinner share of the reinforcement, a worker flinching below it before watching her tool for the next direction.
"River side," she said.
The worker turned the existing brace into the notch she indicated, keeping his hands on the ordinary frame while Ferra sent the available heat and support toward that anchor.
The quiet pulse warmed through the socket beneath her skin, its answer reaching the north piece before the sky’s next complaint could pull the circuit apart.
Hajin’s expression changed as the connection steadied beneath the rim, his fingers easing their grip where she had kept him from following the louder demand.
"There it is."
Ferra nodded without wasting the breath the socket still wanted from her, the small warmth returning through each of her personally forged joins.
Vella brought the guard-supported operator from the adjacent arch to the bench beside the socket, settling the woman within reach before turning toward their injured hands.
Her protective gold stayed close around the attached arm beside her, the guard supporting the patient’s shoulders while the healer reached across the small gap to Ferra.
Her eyes moved over Hajin’s cut finger before finding the blood rising through Ferra’s dressing, the tired set of her mouth making the smith want to hide neither badly enough.
"Keep your palm there."
Ferra obeyed while Vella lifted the loose edge of the burned dressing, passing a clean strip around the exposed side without breaking her contact with the socket.
The pressure of the wrap stung worse than the first heat for a moment, her fingers wanting to curl while she kept them flat through the quiet anchor’s next pulse.
Hajin shifted only his unneeded fingers away from the healer’s reach, letting her bind his small cut after Ferra’s hand was secured against the work.
Vella’s own fingers shook when she finished the second strip, the motion making Ferra look from the uneven chalk on the slate to the healer’s exhausted face.
"Sit when you can," Ferra told her.
"The same offer stands."
Vella took the operator’s steadying hand before Ferra could find a suitable objection, helping the guard bring her back beneath the nearby arch once both fresh dressings were secure.
The circuit held its three different loads under Ferra’s palm, each linked masterwork answering through the heat she was letting travel between them.
She listened past the relief of that answer to the delay still gathered between the hearts, its waiting interval staying stubbornly outside the shape of her repairs.
Vella’s knot had not vanished when the metal steadied, the three lobes on the slate seeming almost patient beside the improved circuit.
Ferra tapped the fork against each join in turn, hearing one note arrive, then another, before the third hesitated just short of agreement.
The sky wanted its brace to pull upward while the parked north weight pressed across it, the Alder connection answering from a road still holding gray damage within its roots.
For the moment those demands failed to complete their shared pattern, a little rough space remaining between the sounds where the next command could not quite settle.
"It is waiting for the hearts to agree," she said.
Hajin looked toward the three marked fronts before turning back to her fork, his hand staying on the rim while he watched the unequal notes pass through the tool.
"How long?"
"Listen with me."
She kept him there through the next set of pulses, the quiet river answer rising beneath his palm just before the sky brace tried to drown it out again.
His face tightened at the missed third beat, the small failed agreement becoming something he could feel through the safe edge instead of another problem waiting in her mouth.
A relay worker repeated her warning toward North while another carried it down the Alder approach, their ordinary voices spreading the same phrase through the prepared triangle.
The fixtures needed eyes on the joins as well as ears on their notes, the first workers trading places with the waiting hands beside them while Ferra kept the circuit under load.
She watched one tired man show his replacement the quiet river mark before letting go of the ordinary brace, his two fingers lingering until the new grip had taken its weight.
Hajin followed the same exchange beside her, keeping the socket rim until Ferra nodded for him to ease his hand away from the stabilized outer edge.
He moved back without reaching for her fork, the tool staying where her own fingers could feel every hesitation passing through the three joined masterworks.
"Leave that with me," she said when his gaze returned to it.
"Tell me where you need my hand."
The answer made her look up from the socket for a moment, finding him waiting beside the rim with the cord and root still caught against his wrist.
Ferra pointed toward the next ordinary brace while the delayed third note passed through her fork, its incomplete answer following Hajin’s changed movement at seven minutes ten seconds.
