All My Summons Become Divine Girls
Chapter 564: Places We Hold
The three fronts settled into separate panes above Ferra’s junction, the north position carrying the report from the bell while Hajin stood beneath the sky assignment.
His right wrist still held Juna’s cord against its strap, the knot brushing his sleeve when he raised the arm with its five active Rings.
Across the short gap to the moving shell, the sixth circled the clone as it crouched beside Loccy’s exposed joint.
The map placed Eirwen farther along the Alder approach with Rumi and Nari, the prepared connections reaching toward them through Ferra’s humming fixtures.
[ Sky: Hajin + 5 Rings ]
[ North: Loccy + the clone ]
[ Alder: Eirwen + twins ]
[ Hajin Body at Alder Front: No ]
Hajin looked at the empty place beneath the last field, feeling the familiar urge to solve a distant problem by already being there.
Juna touched the cord resting against his wrist, her fingertip catching its loose end before she turned toward the upper brace.
"This way."
He followed her first step with his eyes, finding the narrow ascent where the blue light had started running beneath the shade.
The path looked worse from here than it had from below the arch, its ordinary railing throwing a shadow across the place where the manufactured dawn kept returning.
’I miss stairs that only want to break my neck.’
Ferra’s fork sounded against the triangle beside him, the north note arriving rougher when the shell pulled another span of occupied district toward the cradle.
Loccy shifted her free hand toward six connected ribs below the next support, her planted foot keeping its place against the shell while she tested their shared load.
The clone angled its chisel toward the joint between them, waiting with the borrowed hammer tucked at its belt until her fingers stopped moving.
"Take the joint, I will catch six," she told it.
The body looked up with Hajin’s own irritated concentration still sitting briefly on its face, the expression changing as it followed her hand toward the lowest rib.
"I take this joint, you catch those six."
Loccy nodded at the right set, bringing her palm under their connected span while the clone found the retaining edge with its tool.
Hajin could see the space its knee needed to reach, his own leg tensing before he let the instinct pass into a steadier breath.
The attention bell sounded from the access worker, two clear strikes carrying the pair’s readiness back to the junction where Ferra marked the north pane.
An Alder attendant reached the junction at the same moment, coming along the short approach from Eirwen with a piece of root across one open palm.
Its torn end was still damp from the bridge rescue, a little dirt lodged beneath the attendant’s fingernail as she held it out.
"The queen says to tell her husband she is still choosing."
Hajin took the root with his right fingers, its rough skin settling across Juna’s cord while he looked toward the Alder turn.
He had felt Eirwen’s arm shake after the seventh child crossed, remembering the effort behind her request to be asked again when the next load arrived.
The sealed pouch of home soil remained with her down that road, the bit of root in his hand smelling of the bridge they had already kept standing.
"Tell her I heard her."
The attendant gave a short nod before turning back, her route taking the answer through people who could carry it farther while Hajin faced the sky ascent.
Juna had heard the message beside him, her gaze dropping to the root before she lifted it toward his face again.
"Still choosing."
"I heard that part too."
Her mouth moved at the corner, the small expression disappearing when another bright pulse crawled across the upper brace ahead of them.
Hajin tucked the root beneath the outside of his wrist strap beside the cord, leaving the rough end visible where it would prick his skin if he forgot it.
A maintenance guard offered him an ordinary spear from beside the access rail, its shaft scarred from the workers’ attempts to keep the moving supports apart.
Hajin took its weight with his right hand while keeping his bandaged left clear, turning the blunt end toward the worker waiting at the north gap.
"For the pair there."
The worker caught the shaft below its middle, carrying it across the service ledge while the clone laid its chisel flat against the supported patch.
The spear passed into the body’s empty hand, its ordinary iron point staying clear of Loccy while the clone planted the butt against a shallow notch.
Loccy glanced at the new prop before bringing her free fingers around the shaft, feeling its flex while her other hand remained against the connected shell.
"That will do."
She released it after the test, leaving the clone to brace it against the edge until the joint work needed both hands again.
The little exchange cost Hajin nothing beyond the ache of his grip, yet he found himself watching the spear settle as closely as he had watched the network’s new boundary.
Ash waited under the nearby arch with the Watcher, their blanket gathered high enough to keep the blue glare from falling across the child’s eyes.
Hajin passed within reach on his way to the upper brace, slowing when a small hand emerged from beneath the folded edge.
He lowered his right hand without opening his sore left, feeling Ash press warm fingertips against the knuckles beside Juna’s cord.
"Come back through here."
"I will try."
Ash studied him for a moment before letting go, the child’s hand disappearing beneath the blanket as Juna took the next step toward the shade.
Hajin had barely straightened when Ash lifted the blanket’s corner toward Loccy across the gap, making room beneath it with an insistent little pull.
Loccy saw the invitation from her planted position, her tired face changing while the shell continued grinding beneath the occupied houses.
"Save me that place."
Ash pulled the corner higher in answer, the waiting space looking absurdly small beside the load she was holding on her bare heel.
The Watcher kept one hand against the blanket’s upper fold, supporting its shade while Ash turned toward the road where the Alder attendant had gone.
Three notes escaped the child’s mouth in a soft, uneven hum, the last one wobbling when breath ran out before it reached its intended finish.
The departing attendant looked back from the bend, lifting her hand to show she had heard before carrying that small farewell toward Eirwen.
Hajin caught the Watcher’s eye beside the blanket, finding her attention already following the next bright pulse toward the cradle beyond the roofs.
There was enough worry in that look to make his own throat tighten, the thought of the child’s reserved place settling beside the root against his wrist.
He turned toward the upper brace with Juna before the next pulse reached the arch, his five Rings casting narrow shadows along the railing.
Ferra moved with them to the beginning of the ascent, keeping her fork in her wrapped hand while a worker stayed beside the triangle’s fixed joins.
The smith raised the tool toward a vibration above their heads, its answer making her stop beside a pressure column where several strips of shade crossed.
"That upper brace, hold it until I find what is making the light."
Hajin put his right palm against the indicated support, feeling its shudder beneath the ordinary surface before Juna passed him toward the next landing.
He could still hear the north hammer below, each restrained strike separated by the pause Loccy needed to settle the load against her palm.
From Alder came the scrape of dragged barriers and a call for more room, the sounds reaching him through the open approach beneath the three-part hum.
The map remained where Aria had placed it beside his sight, its marked positions changing only when the people reporting from them brought something new.
He left the north pane alone when the next hammer stroke came, keeping his attention on the brace vibrating beneath the hand Juna needed steady.
She tested the landing ahead with her weight, her four Wings held clear of the railing as she measured the turn she would need above it.
The upper light caught her face for an instant, its blue glare finding the edge of her cheek before Ferra raised a strip of shade between them.
For that instant Hajin saw a familiar window reflected inside the glare, its shutters hanging at the same crooked angle as the occupied house beneath the column.
The image stretched when he moved his head, a pale face appearing above the windowsill where there should have been nothing but pressure and light.
His stomach tightened before the strip of shade hid it, the stolen likeness lingering against his sight while Juna turned toward the real house below.
Someone there was dragging a shutter closed from inside, their ordinary fingers struggling with the catch beneath the false morning burning overhead.
Hajin’s grip tightened on the support while Juna stepped beyond that flash, her gaze already following the column toward the concealed source.
The north bell sounded once more below them, its report carried up by the worker beside the triangle with a shout that stayed clear through the hum.
"Both in place."
An answer came from the Alder turn almost on top of it, Rumi’s voice carrying the readiness of Eirwen and Nari along the open approach.
Hajin felt the competing sounds tug at him, his head beginning to turn before Juna looked back from the next landing.
"Here."
He met her eyes above the support, finding the corner of her mouth still and the light behind her climbing toward another manufactured morning.
"I’m here."
The deployment clock reached four minutes beside the map, the same lone clone working north while Hajin held the sky brace beneath Juna’s next step.
